when i was a jw, i really couldn't stomach the watchtowers.
the only articles i would read would be for the family study/watchtower study.
it seemed so archaic and old-people-ish.. i did read the awake from cover to cover almost every time.
Well, I never in my life as a witness could figure out why the borg even published the AWAKE. To me it had nothing to do with the preaching work....it was not purely bible based.
I preferred the Watchtower. I always read the 'Questions from readers' first, as the questions were usually good and I could learn. I always looked at the study articles to see if there was any NEW LIGHT also.
the wts has used the fall of jericho as a prophetic pattern to show amongst other things that at the time of the end there would be an intensification of the preaching work to correspond with the israelites walking round the city seven times.
however, do we see an intensification?
do we see a hardening of the message?

Farkel! Shame on you! You know Jehovahs people have never served for a date.They do it out of pure love for their fellowman even if the end dosen't come in their lifetime. You see.....it's like a fire inside them to tell others the good news. They just don't want to see others miss out on everlasting life.....thats why they serve

But we can be sure that the work of proclaiming Gods judgments, and of teaching Bible truth to the meek, will prosper
Likely the presence of a small number of apostates had contributed to the slowing down of Jehovahs work

Evidently, even Jehovah can't stop the apostates from allowing the dubs to prosper according to this.
Years ago the society couldn't decide if the" love of the greater number that would cool off"...meant the world, or the organisation. They decided it meant the world.......they were wrong again!
I didn't realize what a tough question this is to answer until it was asked.
A reason to live? I would like to find out what the afterlife is if there is one. Will I be dead forever?

i have been reading through a number of posts here regarding shepherding calls in the past few days.
having always been the "troubled child" i sure received my fair share.
i got pregnant when i was 19 (unmarried) and know firsthand what a woman goes through during these so-called "shepherding calls" - having to tell every detail of your sex life to 3 old geezers, feeling dirty and worthless, and terrified of loosing everything if you're df'd.. i've been attending a non-denominational church now for a couple years and discovered that they also do shepherding calls (yikes!!

The only time you will see this at the hall is on the inside cover of their songbooks in the picture. There you see singers with their hands in the air really bellering it out......yet you never see publishers do this.
serena williams, after winning the us open women's tennis championship tonight, thanked "jehovah" for blessing her family.
in the background were numerous us flags, and of course, prior to the match, the williams sisters were there and standing while various patriotic songs were played (oh, that's right....they were already standing since they had to walk out onto the court....guess that's okay).
while watching all that i could not help but think of all the jw youths who have been told that they could not particicpate in organized sports at school or otherwise.
The point is this folks.
The Organisation of Jehovahs Witnesses does not honor these actions. The point is....are they allowed to do these things while others are not?
A school brochure is to be used by a parent as guidelines as to what activities a child will or will not be participating published by the WTBTS.....remember?
In it it says...."Children will not be participating in after school activities such as, sports and various clubs......remember?
To hold the american flag up is a big no no....remember
Sports puts you in with needless bad association, and causes a competative spirit.....remember?
All of you who are saying nothing more than we should be glad for the girls is true.......but the point of the thread is.......about the double standards of the borg. Many others have been ostracized for less than this. Many of you haven't been around long enough to know.

i have to admit that it was just about the very first thing that i did when i finally received that sumbeam of enlightenment that jw's were simply not anything special.
i drove out to a country pub, bought 2 panatellas and a half of red barrel, and spluttered my way through my first cigar n' pint.
Of all the x-dubs I know.......I am the only lucky bastard who smokes.
I have had an addictive personality from birth......always have to have something.....a security blanket I suppose. I chewed for years as a dub.....got in trouble a couple of times (only reproved)
Finally in 94 I decided to tell them to df me as I was still not able to cut it....they agreed. I have tried everything available to quit and failed. Someday I'll quit....or die and quit.
to mark this weekend's district convention in sydney, australia, we are asked to cast our minds back in time and remember those district convention days with a certain nostalgia.

i was talking with an athiest friend the other day and he brought up the subject of how society in general has been governed by the christian moral code.
some christians apparently predict chaos in society if an athiest moral code ever replaced the christian one.
this made me wonder....what is the athiest moral code?

Just the opposite of many Christians. How many Christians and dubs would do thing different it it weren't for Bible or Organisational rules? How many mates would divorce the other were it not for these rules?
Many or most Christians/dubs would not do what their heart tells them is right if it disagrees with the Bible/Org. An atheist would. Their beliefs center on what they feel is logical or proven truths.
I have no problem with NT moral codes. They work. Honesty, fidelity, kindness, truthfulness.....however.........many other cultures who have never seen a bible have these same moral codes. Many moral codes are built in us.....we know right from wrong on many issues.
