yesterday was my birthday - sunday is father's day.
we went out to dinner (my first celebration in over 30 years), my husband gave me a beautiful gift, my kids were great, my sister (who's baptized, but on shaky ground herself) sent me flowers and joined us .
i'm filled with sadness for all the missed years .
Does anyone EVER feel they've done enough...especially when they lose someone they love? Is there ever a person who feels they were the perfect child/mate? I'm still gonna call my mom.
Btw...I left a post after KidA's post. Aint noooobdy stealin by buisness!

i cant help but think of the analogy of pendulum swings when i think about how vitriolic some are towards religion (of any description), the bible (and other scripture), and christianity (generally, regardless of there being a wide range of denominational flavours) in particular.. it seems to me, from my perspective of sitting here on a remote scottish island, that there are a fair number of folks who may have left an intolerant and generalising religion but forgot to leave those attitudes with it.. just my 2p, coz to be frank i'm getting sick of it.. by all means enjoy some self-expression, it's a relatively free planet, but have a heart....
Terry....I know this is off topic......but are you wearing a bra in your avatar...or is that just your boob?

Nellie...I was teasing you of course. You made me think however. I'm calling my mom tomarrow and sending her some flowers. I've never sent my mom flowers before. Weird.

as long as i can remember, the wts taught that the "evil slave" mentioned conversely to the fds by jesus were the "russelites", or group of people that followed russel's teachings, but hated rutherford and hated the fact that he took it upon himself to write the final "studies in the scriptures" volume.
then they refused to follow the direction that the organization was going at that time.
they then started their own tight-knit religious group with the sole intention of immortalizing russel and his teachings, which got them the label of "evil slave".
What it really boils down to was that Rutherford was an excellent con-man. He was able to sway the masses to his side but some remained on Russells side...even after he died. Since Rutherfords domain was bigger....he made more money and expanded his flock. Since his group was bigger and more prosperous, it was obvious Jehovah had chosen the Rutherfordites over the Russellites.
Bad Russellites....bad, bad!!!!!

I'm filled with sadness for all the missed years . . . the years I should've sent my father a gift when he was alive, the years I should've celebrated with my mother and my own kids. I'm also filled with the sadness of losing my best friends, even though I have new friends
I guess I ain't a good comforter. I was gonna say you feel bad as we all do from what you just said. I too need to call my mom more, send her flowers...etc. ...she's 81
I miss my old friends too. Here i figured this was the answer and all along it's yer damn hormones.....I give up!

i'm obsessed with new cars.
i'd trade a $50,000 car for a brand new $40,000 one the year after, and trade it again for a $30,000 brand new one the year later, and trade it again for a $20,000 one year after that.
as long as i get a new one every year or so, i love the feeling, even if it's less equipped.
Mary.....yer right. I need to find me a girl squirrel ....but I had ta demonstrate what my obsession was about. That little fella had some honkers didn't he?
Gregwhore....you quit pickin on greendawg. He's a good guy and wouldn't hurt a fly. How come your pickin on him?Greendawns obsession is quite common among the hetero male population. As I recall he is a middle school teacher. That would be, what? 14 to 16 year olds.? There's a whole 'nother topic.

You would be hard pressed to find a single story that can't be found to be sourced from the OT, intertestamental legends or paralled in other contemporaraneous religious myth.
Pete....although I'm not a big Jesus fan, I don't feel this is the best argument. With so many people living on this planet since man began and with all the belief systems that have existed/exists...your going to find parallels in many types of beliefs. All of them have gods. All gods are super human. All gods can do great things.
I do however realise the Jesus stories are too close to myth stories to be by accident, but this point your making is not one that sells well to a christian.
