a friend once told me that it was because the other versions of bibles weren't translated accurately and things had been changed.
at this though, she also told me that should i decide to study, i could use my own bible.

Perhaps. But, not too many religious figures have started a religion contrary to the one from their native land and have been successful in starting one IN their native land. Russell built on what was already established, that being christianity. What did that comment have to do with this thread? Even I don't know...it just popped into my head.

i know there is a lot of buzz due to the nbc story.
i thought i'd share my experience as an elder dealing with abuse.. i attended 23 different congregations in my life and served as an elder or ms in 9 of them.

I'd like to know how the society would address these issues if you were to call them right now.
Someone said that with all the litigation they are now that the society would say the issues mentioned on this thread were untrue....such as publishers/elders being directed to use a pay phone when reporting a molestation in a state demanding that you report, and putting a gag order on the victim to not give out ANY information other than the name of the accused.
Like I said, does anyone want to call? I'd be interested in seeing what they say.

Ok, now that that was said, I still a little disappointed that there haven't been more personal experiences from here. Who wants to call the society and and ask them if all this is true and see what they say. Thank you for sharing this. Frankly, i'm surprized there has not been more threads such as this one in view of the fact that there have been endless discussions about pedophilia being covered up by Jehovah's Witnesses on this site. Unless I've missed it, I cannot recall a more diffinitive description of how the service department directs elders in handling cases of molestations within the congregations. I'm also surprised there has not been more input in this thread by former elders here, who have dealth with cases of molestations and have called the society and have heard the same instuctions from them as the ones you related to us.
I'd like to ask.....did elders usually give instructions to the witness parents of the victim such as NOT to mention this to anyone else? If so, where are these instructions found? Is it in a B.O.E. letter? If I'm not mistaken, you cannot find these instructions in the "Pay attention to the Flock" manuels. Are most elders familiar with the same guidlines as the ones you mentioned the service department gave you?

Strange thing - the menatility of the disfellowshipped
by Billzfan23 ini was in target the other day with this girl that i have been dating for a few weeks - we were browing around, she was getting some housewares for a new apartment that she is moving in to..but that's neither here nor there... .
i turn the corner - and there stand a couple of dubs that were assigned to my book study when i was an elder last year.
one of them is 24 years old, the other is around 18 or 19 now.

Since the witnesses believe that if you die in a disfellowshipped state, there is no hope for you should armageddon come.....it leaves the DFed one feeling they are free of all rules. That of course is untill that one decides to be reinstated. Then,they must act as though they are a witness in good standing.
I'm surprised this girl hangs out with her witness sister if she wants to be reinstated. I'm not sure how long it is before you can request reinstatement after being DFed. Anyone know?
