Help me with research for video: "Evidence: The WT breaks up families"
by seattleniceguy ini'm interested in trying my hand at a youtube video.
i'd like to do a piece giving evidence that the wt actually breaks up families since, to my mind, this is one of their worst real offenses.
the outline will go something like this:.

You silly guy. Don't you know Adam was too busy naming all of the animals, giving them their scientific names, to even notice the fruit?

by a Christian injames c,.
you wrote: the belief of apostolic succession is not a distinctly roman one.
the orthodox as well as the anglicans hold to it.

Anybody~What do the ante-nicene fathers say about this? Seems like they'd have had to deal with this issue when they decided to accept or reject the successors to the original apostles.
I still don't see anything that implicitly makes the point that Jesus has to do the appointing. Here is a qoute (Matt. 16:18) and some commentary on it from the Douay-Rheims bible. Note that Peter was given the authority to do things, such as appoint apostles, when he was given the keys of the kingdom. This commentary makes sense to me.
"18 And I say to thee: That thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. Thou art Peter, etc... As St. Peter, by divine revelation, here made a solemn profession of his faith of the divinity of Christ; so in recompense of this faith and profession, our Lord here declares to him the dignity to which he is pleased to raise him: viz., that he to whom he had already given the name of Peter, signifying a rock, John 1:42, should be a rock indeed, of invincible strength, for the support of the building of the church; in which building he should be, next to Christ himself, the chief foundation stone, in quality of chief pastor, ruler, and governor; and should have accordingly all fulness of ecclesiastical power, signified by the keys of the kingdom of heaven. Upon this rock, etc... The words of Christ to Peter, spoken in the vulgar language of the Jews which our Lord made use of, were the same as if he had said in English, Thou art a Rock, and upon this rock I will build my church. So that, by the plain course of the words, Peter is here declared to be the rock, upon which the church was to be built: Christ himself being both the principal foundation and founder of the same. Where also note, that Christ, by building his house, that is, his church, upon a rock, has thereby secured it against all storms and floods, like the wise builder, Matthew 7:24-25. The gates of hell, etc... That is, the powers of darkness, and whatever Satan can do, either by himself, or his agents. For as the church is here likened to a house, or fortress, built on a rock; so the adverse powers are likened to a contrary house or fortress, the gates of which, that is, the whole strength, and all the efforts it can make, will never be able to prevail over the city or church of Christ. By this promise we are fully assured, that neither idolatry, heresy, nor any pernicious error whatsoever shall at any time prevail over the church of Christ.

What should I do with all of these books?
by Confession inwhile growing up, my dad maintained a rather huge wts library.
i liked the idea of being able to pick out one of those old books from the1940s or earlier and read what they were saying back then.
well for the first time, in september of 2006 at the age of 40, i finally became a home-owner.

I'm collecting JW literature because my family won't believe ANY scans, as they could be altered. You never know what kind of crazy things you might find in the literature, so I'm keeping anything I can get my hands on. You can try to sell this stuff on eBay, if you don't want it. Lots of people buy this kind of stuff.

FF, I'm curious what school you attend.
Here's what I've found works for me: give the prof what he wants. I received an A+ on a paper in a class and the prof told the class that mine was only the second A+ she'd given in 37 years of teaching. I write down everything the prof says when she's giving out instructions and follow them to the letter. This is good advice for your working life, too, as what matters is giving your boss what he/she wants, whether you agree with him/her or not.

As predicted, no loosening of the reins . . .
by AuldSoul inwell, the new governing body is circling the doctrinal wagons and funneling information through fewer and fewer access points.
there is no loosening of the reins.
i believe those who are awaiting mainstreaming from the organization are waiting in vain.

Two things: anybody have anything they can scan that DEFINITELY says the COs are being downsized or is this just speculation?
Also, my happy memories of being a JW all come from the BS. We lived in a rural area and met at someone's farm. After the meeting, we'd go swimming in their pond or ride dirt bikes through the fields. Seems like they should realize that, if you take away all of their joy, people will give up and walk away at some point. My family goes to a KH with two congs. The "south" cong. has a tyrannical PO who won't let them do anything. That cong. has almost disbanded, as people have left because the PO is so controlling. The mass defection started after he banned "goodie night" because it was the most heavily attended meeting of the month, which he said showed that people were coming to the meeting for the "wrong reasons."

When lying isn't lying JW style
by bronzefist ini know this is an old topic, but there are many new ones onboard so here goes..... i went to the book study (it's been more than a year since i last had the pleasure)... revelation book chapter 39 paragraphs 1-13. when paragraph 13 finally comes around...... 13 does this mean that jehovahs witnesses are against all government?
they obey the apostle pauls counsel: "let every soul be in subjection to the superior authorities.
" they realize that as long as the present system lasts, those "superior authorities" exist by gods permission for maintaining a measure of order in human society.

Better rewrite the Ten Commandments: "thou shalt not lie" becomes "thou shalt not lie unless it's suits the WTS"

I've done so many dumb things, where can I start?
I was making fried chicken once and realized I had forgotten to put salt in the breading. So, I stood over the chicken, which was frying in boiling grease, and began salting the chicken. I accidentally dropped the salt shaker and boiling grease splashed over my hand and wrist, leaving third degree burns.
If I were you, I'd call your eye doctor. Your vision is too important to take chances.

Is the Watchtower really wrong according to your standards?
by hamilcarr in'we all have a priori knowledge, so we can't claim objective knowledge.
by the way, our senses only observe part of reality.
then, how do you dare asserting that you're right?
-
StAnn
I think the real question here is, Could the Watchtower possibly be right according to any rational standards?
Personally, given that they teach "facts" and then get new light and change those "facts" and then get new light and change those "facts" back to a previous interpretation of the "facts" is reason enough to believe they are wrong. It's one thing to start out learning about a topic and learn more as you go. If the JWs had continued to expound upon Russell's teachings, I could think they were at least sincere. However, the constant flip-flopping isn't a sign of learning more as time goes by. Their teachings don't become more and more cohesive and clear over time. If anything, they become sillier. If a belief is discarded, it should be discarded for a good reason; the fact that the WTS keeps returning to its previously discarded teachings, readopting them and then discarding them again, ad nauseum, shows they have no real intellectual integrity in how they develop their beliefs.
