yesterday i took all my keys off my ibm model m keyboard and cleaned them and vacuumed the surface to get some dust out of the inside and now it looks like new.
i need to do the same to the one i use at work.
i got another model m keyboard off ebay yesterday.
I've never found a keyboard I liked. I still prefer my old manual typewriter. There's something wimpy about the sound of a keyboard. A typewriter, a good old gunmetal gray manual, now that's got a good sound.
My ex- threw the old manual away. I still miss it.
the watchtower sunday made a claim to the effect that when science conflicts with the bible, the bible has always been proven to be correct.
if i had been there, i would have asked "could you provide some specific examples"?.
i'm thinking that reality is actually the other way, science always disproves the bible.
I guess, for me, it comes down to this: the Bible is not a textbook. It's not a history book or a science book. It's a compilation of books of theology from many different genres that needs to be read contextually.
Science and theology are two separate disciplines and the WTS isn't proficient in either of them.

Uh, if God is speaking directly through the GB, how could they make a mistake? This girl's statement assumes that God has absolutely no idea what he is doing. The JWs believe that God is without error. If God is without error, everything from the mouths of the GB regarding doctrine should be without error. If there is error in what they say, what they say isn't from God. If what they say isn't from God, then they aren't really God's channel. If they aren't God's channel as they claim to be, well, then they're just liars.
by that i meant - how many remember being an active jw when this happened?.

I remember talking about this after the book study. The biggest concern everyone had was that it would interfere with the preaching work because there were actually some people in "the world" who were under the impression that JWs were a cult! Of course, they were wrong, but perception is important....I remember thinking at the time that, yes, JWs would drink the kool-aid.

NewYork44M, I just looked at the bio and he graduated from Richmond High. I lived in Richmond when I met my husband. We were married in a Lutheran Church in Richmond, Trinity Evangelical Lutheran out on W. Main, across from the radio station.

so me and my father who is an elder get into yet another rather tense discussions about the bible .
and my new found "beliefs".
one of the things we discussed was my belief that the way we conduct studies... .
Now lets say you spent 50 years researching material and you have gathered a storehouse of information.

First, when you look at the WTS publications, they rarely give citations for their "research" when they quote non-WTS sources. This is generally because they are knowingly quoting out of context and don't want to leave an easy trail for others to follow. The WTS does not hold itself to high standards of research. The storehouse of information they have is useless if not researched and applied properly.
Second, just so you're forewarned, you're not going to be able to convert anyone on this board to JW thinking. Everyone here pretty much has had the blinders taken off and sees the WTS for what it truly is. Hopefully, you will too, very soon.

my dear wife says she has a hard time investing time and money towards hobbies.
my wife was born in to the organization.
she says she still has a difficult time not feeling guilty about activities that would take one away from the preaching work, even though she has made her exit from the organization a long time ago.
This topic shocked me, believe it or not. It never dawned on my until this moment that my extreme frugality and reluctance to have a hobby that costs money might be anything other than genetic tightwaddery. Not only do I not "waste" money on hobbies, I insist that all of my hobbies generate income or reduce outlay! For example, I've done crafting because I enjoy it but mostly because it makes gift-giving cheaper. I love history and so, to indulge this love, I got a job at a living history museum selling tickets and giving tours on the weekend! I actually made money at my hobby!
This JWism goes even deeper than I realized.
i've been wondering about this a lot lately.
when i was a jw, i was always miserable because i was so busy trying to keep up with everyone else, i.e., field service hours, dressing appropriately, having the right attitude, feeling guilty about desiring things not approved by the wts, such as an education.
my own experience as a jw was so filled with unhappiness that it never occurred to me that anybody in the wts could actually be happy and have a joyful life.
Wow, what varied answers and opinions!
I would find it hard to believe that most people in the world aren't happy. The people I know now have a genuine joy in their lives, their achievements, their families that would be foreign to a JW. But maybe I just selectively choose only positive people to be part of my life.
