  RIP Michael Jackson

  it's one hour into june 25th here in new zealand .

  and two years since the death of michael jackson.. we all know of his family life and the connection the family had to the jehovah's witness religion, his abusive father, and the less than ideal childhood he experienced.

  his struggles with his identity and his past manifested itself in a life of extreme highs and lows.

  Thanks for pointing out the anniversary sizemik, he is greatly missed.

  Like so many people of genius his life was way too short, I feel he had great things inside that would have added to our lives tremendously as a mature MJ worked on his talent.

  Well, the original Committee that produced the NWT did not know Hebrew or Greek, and weren't that hot on English in my opinion.

  So I suppose they think it is O.K for volunteers who put the NWT in to their own tongue to do so without knowledge of the original languages.

  Probably from the W.T point of view this situation is prefereable, those who know bible Heb. Gk. and Aramaic would notice too many of the twists and spins that the W.T has put on what they have "translated" (parenthesis deliberate, the NWT is not a translation, it is a version, a poor one)

  well here i am drinkinin strongbow and stella mixed,, slurp fall over etc.. but the day has been shite, we are both out of work and just scrapping by with what we get from the dwp, nothing in the way of presents except from sleeping beauty and my kids god bless them.

  i guess life is a journey and this journey becomes more exited when someone is willing to take that journey.

  one of our greek poets wrote: "it is not the destination, but the journey that matters".... my story is very similar like many thousands of ex-jw's around the globe.

  Thanks for posting JH14, great to hear you are doing O.K, you seem to have got to a place of peace, where you may not know the answers to everything, but the answers you do have fit the evidence, make sense.

  It is great too, is it not, to be able to ask the forbidden questions ?

  Your story is similar to many on here I guess, my own for example. I was born in to a slightly different organization to you, I was born in to the WT/JW Org/religion in 1950, by 68 it had changed somewhat.

  I started my spiritual journey around early 2007, a year before I finally walked away, but I had been reversing out slowly for decades without realising it.

  I never swallowed the total wacky crap like bible prophecy being fulfilled in the little group of Rutherfordites in the 1920's, and did not share many of the views and practices, I hated the shunning of DF'd persons for instance.

  I am now a Humanist/Rationalist.I only put my trust in things that I can prove in a scientific or sensible manner. I do not "believe"in anything, using "belief" in the sense of trusting in something with no proof, why should I ?

  I feel that I have not got my life back, I never had a life in the W.T, not areal one, but I feel I have been given a life, one that is happy and fulfilled, mainly by helping my fellow man in any way I can.

  Do I detect a hint , a wisp, of sadness in your tone? It is natural to feel regret, you have lost a wife, "friends" and had to walk away from the only life you knew, that takes courage and integrity.

  Look forward to your great future, it will be what you want it to be, so be happy, have fun and above all, keep us posted !

  i can remember when i was first assimilated, the jw's did alot together, they went to the park together, they had picnics, days out together.. .

  somehow by the 90's this had stopped.

  Why are WTBTS headquarters moving out of Brooklyn?

  aside from the economic incentives, has the wtbts actually said why they are moving the headquarters to warwick, ny?.

  is there any sort of official statement re: reasoning?.

  are they suggesting this is part of the "preparation" for the big a - when nyc will clearly be destroyed, and so jehovah won't have to squint and pick out the jws in brooklyn in order to avoid them when hurling the fireballs..

  All cults eventually run for the hills and retreat into the compound. The W.T is doing just that.

  The official story has not been told has it ? just progress reports as though the whole thing is directed by Big J , whereas if this were true He would have had them sell up just as property reached its peak in value, not several years afterward.

  Why does the Society accept Christendom's "original" Bible canon?

  greetings to those who may know.. i'm reading about the various councils convened in the fourth century a.d. to determine the bible canon.

  if my understanding is correct, constantine was initially in charge, some 24 councils finally got it figured out (hardly) and there were fights over what was in and what was out.

  over 200 so-called gospels were considered and four accepted.

  I believe the WT is totally,and from their point of view wisely, silent on this. And you are spot on 10yrsafter, the trinity was sorted out in 325 (again,not completely) and the bible Canon in 381. ( conflicts about both continue).

  So, the position that the bible JW's use is inerrant, or if not that, that it is in some way the word of god, is laughable.

  Add to this our very own Terry's great point that the manuscripts we translate from are copies of copies of copies made centuries after the originals, and the whole thing becomes a joke.

  As I have said many times, the WT/JW religion is founded on lies, and maintained by lies.

  Interesting thread Quentin, I wonder too if CoCo is not on to something, are we not a microcosm of what will happen?

  We emerged from the bubble of intellectual falsehood and false reasoning and history that was the WT/JW's into a world where we could freely educate ourselves, and learn to shed all the old nonsense, including superstitious belief.

  Surely as the world gets connected to the Internet this will happen to individuals more and more, ghettos of ignorance like the W.T and Islam etc. will become a laughing stock, hence we will have a more mature world, where problems can be resolved sensibly perhaps.

  I am optimistic the world will be a better place in the decades to come, not least because the demise of religious hegemony, due to the spread of knowledge, will change the hearts of people, compassion will grow.
