by minimus ini don't think there are more pedophiles in the religion than there are in others.. i understand that one is too many.
but i think some believe that it's an epidemic within the organization.
i believe their 2 witness rule can help pedophiles secretly abuse kids.. but i don't think that this particular crime dominates those in the religion.. .

The problem is that they have no proper functioning programme in place to protect the vulnerable, plus they have no system of trackimg Paedo's and notifying a congregation when one moves in, and they do not do CRB checks !
So, we may not believe the problem is any worse than any other religion (who are you comparing it to, the RC church?) but nobody really knows.
They must be made to get the best possible systems in place to tackle and prevent the problem, not just try to bury it after the crime has been committed, by then a child's life has been stolen.

The 1914 date is a direct result of Russell plagiarising the work of others before him, William Miller, whose calculations ended in "The Great Disappointment", and others, often of the Adventist movement.
Pyramidology is just looney, but on a par with astrology etc.
So, at the very least,even ignoring the pyramid, the doctrine comes from "Christendom" and what JW's would call Apostate sources.
The strange thing is, that as Russell never formally dis-associated his church from the Adventists, the JW's are still connected to what they call "Apostate Christendom ", thay are a sect of Adventism.

steven unthank is still the acting prosecutor (and that's why he could not comment on the case on the"dialogue" program), and all 5 cases are still before the courts.
the crown informed the court that the office of public prosecutions are "acting as a facilitator at the moment"; and that the police investigation is "quite well progressed"; and that the police are awaiting response from the department of justice.. .

Dear 2tone, You could well be right, but whatever happens, we have to make sure that this case wakes up the JW's to their responsibility to protect children and the vulmerable.
Their disgusting attitude of ignoring, not just the danger, but often the offences going on in their midst, and not putting in place proper working practices that protect has GOT to change.
Even if this case does not get as huge as we would like, we can publicise it in our own countries and make the public aware of "The Paedophile at YOUR door" and force the JW's to take the steps they should have done morally years ago.
Even tiny pre-school nursery groups in my area actually ensure the protection of those in their charge, JW's have no excuse.

JW Apologists, Lurkers, etc., can you prove the selection in 1919?
by garyneal ini mean, this is the pivotal doctrine that will prove beyond all shadow of a doubt that this religion really is the one true religion.. why is this so?.
why not just read and study the bible and see that the witnesses adhere to it and therefore must be the one true religion?.
because a lot of what the witnesses say that bible says is merely their interpretation of the bible from my point of view.

What are the best Bible Translations?
by Londo111 ingrowing up in a jw family, my parents and my grandparents had many versions of the bible...not just the new world translation.
sometimes i read these.
but i always bought the hype that the new world translation was the most unbiased and most consistent in rendering hebrew and greek into the modern language.

Spot on Cyberjesus ! all we have is some 3rd Century and later manuscripts that are copies of copies of copies ,and some of those are translations too !
We have no way of knowing what the original writers put down for sure, and even if we did have autograph copies, we would have to take in to account the writers agenda, his motive, when it was written etc etc . The latter we can do a lot of, just as an example, many scholars feel the "Matthew" was written , at the earliest around the late 80's or 90CE, so, why write as though it is before the Temple destruction ? (Agenda/motive)
Study of the Bible is fascinating, as is study of many ancient texts, see Leolaia's excellent posts on this over the years, but however clearly one comes to understand the writings we do have,( and the modern translators own theology may get in the way see the very poor NWT !) we can never claim that we have a text that is reliable enough to argue about every "jot and tittle" , and certainly to be dogmatic on any point of doctrine based on such poor source material is to make oneself look very silly.

To SMIDDY, I agree 100% that all JW's should be CRB checked, as we call it in the U.K, O.K it is not a fool-proof or paedophile proof system, but it would offer some protection to the children of the public, as well as JW children.
The fact that the JW's claim that all baptised JW's, including the female JW's, are " ordained ministers" should be sufficient to make it necessary I would have thought, for all to be checked. (?)
It is necessary, very necessary, I can think of one individual who is a danger to any child, who is not an Elder or anything, but still goes from door to door here in the U.K, a check may well stop him.
