  News Item!! The Biblical NT story has been PROVEN to be a hoax!!

  ok i lied; there's no such news item.

  however, imagine for a minute that it was indeed fact and that the evidence was irrefutable that the new testiment account in the bible was proven to be a hoax started by the early constantine government and perpetuated by the church over the centuries.

  now, if you are of the atheist persuation it seems plausable that your reaction would be something similar to "i told you so" and that life would go on pretty much as usual.

  The cult of Jesus was alive and spreading fast long before the first Gospel was written, Paul's christology vied with others for a good while. The making of the relgion the official one of the Roman Empire is late in the develpoment of the cult, and various branches, the Coptic for instance , were not exactly subsumed.

  Faith in Christ was not really heavily joined to the N.T writings until the literalist schools of the late 19th and early 20th century came along. Luther in his time had advocated "Sola Scritura" but this was to stop the excesses of the RC church, charging for "Indulgences" etc.

  Faith in Christ was spread initially by word of mouth, as the common people were, in the main, illiterate throughout the subsequent centuries this remained the main method.

  Christians like "A Guest" on here do not rely on the N.T to have a living faith.

  The JW's would be the least affected, what the Bible actually says has been ignored by them for so long that its demotion to pure fiction, if that were to ever happen, would not matter, their faith is in the Governing Body that they worship.

  there's an article in the new public edition entitled, "should you trust your first impressions?".

  in the article there's the sub-headings, "judging by appearance" and "appearances can be deceptive".

  the main import of the article is to impress upon the non-jw to not pre-judge jws based on pre-convieved notions.

  Good points.TBK, Jesus gave no name for his followers, but Acts says that "by divine providence" they came to be known as "Christians", probably recognising the fact that had this not happened, a more derogatory term would have been coined by non believers.

  Whatever is said during a baptism talk or in the unscriptural Questions affair makes no difference, the phrase as found in the bible "Baptised in (more properly "into") the name of the Father Son and Holy Spirit" is NOT used in the two "vows".

  SO JW's are baptised in to an organisation,the, WT, one which they know little about.

  So yea, A Blatant A$$ LIE !!!!!!!

  The latest change in Watchtower vocabulary to catch out the unwary

  i got a copy of the recent kingdom ministry the other day and it reminded me of something in the book the orwellian world of jehovha's witnesses by heather and garry botting.

  it's on the front page of the december issue of the km, they have a heading called "not 'alternative' witnessing" where they explain that the term is no longer considered appropriate and "public" witnessing should be used instead.. in the orwellian world of jehovah's witnesses the bottings discuss the importance of the particular language jws use to set themselves apart from other people.

  they redefine common words to give them a particular slant, such as "brother", "sister", "literature" and so on.

  The new "Public Witnessing" term does not really distinguish the work from D to D work in my mind, I mean, dressing up in a cheap suit, and therefore looking really out of place, and knocking on every door in a street is hardly "Private" as opposed to public is it ?

  Why do they need a different term for each, surely the zealous JW will preach at every opportunity? to delineate in this way does not encourage that, thankfully.

  this is a sugestion i have to all members of this board ,members from all over the world, to let the victorian government in australia know that the world is concerned about protecting the children of victoria ,and theirby setting a precedent for the rest of the world, who are interested in the outcome of the criminal charges against the religion of jehovah`s witnesses in refusing to abide by the legislation to get "working with children checks"when required to do so.correct me if i`m wrong but i think if all of us sent letters to the newspapers here in australia ,the different members of parliment here,we would demonstate that the victorian judicial system here is under scrutiny to do the right thing in the eyes of the world.. we all complain that the wtb&ts/jehovahs witnesses is a cult religion that sucks,destroying family relationships,here is a chance to do something about it.

  whether you agree with steven unthank or not,here is an opportunity to stick up for the children of jehovah`s witnesses and every other child that a witness calls on in their door to door ministry.. what do you think ?.

  I think this is a splendid idea, we would need to restrain the impulse to have a pop at every aspect of the WT's problems.

  We would need to be conscious of the need not to interfere in any way with the Judicial process, so perhaps we could produce suggested template letters, but I do agree that this needs to be seen by those in positions of responsibility in Victoria that this is not just a parochial problem, and that the repercussions if the case is handled well, will benefit children and the vulnerable around the globe.

  Where is the Statement That JWs Should Follow the GB Even If They Think They Are Wrong?

  JW Cable TV Installer Counts His Time.. Home owner very pissed off !

  the directv guy came by today to install our new dvr.

  a pretty simple install as i already installed the telephone line, and the amp/switch box is about 5 feet below where the extra line needs to run.. .

  so all the installer needs to do is give us the new dvr receiver, run one coax line, plug it all in and leave.. .

  I think I would ask the guy to explain to me ,using only the Bible, how and why his beloved Governing Body in the form of Rutherford and assorted Bible Students were chosen in 1919 by Jesus.

  so what was the point of the anointed again?

  the gb does not keep track of them (their opinions), they have no extra knowledge (in many cases they have less knowledge, not to mention sanity), they serve no extra role..... how many times are the flock told about "new light"?

  proper food at the proper time....if being anointed serves absolutely 0 immediate purposes...what was the point of it?

  Rutherford wanted to keep the "elite" class of 144,000 for some reason, so invented the Other Sheep and the earthly "hope". Good move? Bad move?

  Job to say I 'spose, but he was a marketer of his religion, and I guess he thought more sales would come from his flash of "New Light", than the simpler route of claiming the 144,000 was a symbolic number, which it obviously is, and which the WT will soon be forced to announce as "Noo LIte".

  I can still hear the recording of him saying "Behold ! The Great Crowd !" , he sounded just like W.C Fields, thinking about it, not much physical resemblance, but you never saw them in the same room.

  the several threads on the literal 144,000 got me to thinking about this: it is getting pretty obvious that the literal 144,000 is at least getting very questionable and likely will not be able to stand long without a serious remodeling.

  what else has fallen by the wayside?

  What exactly is their main selling point nowadays, can they really expect the HH's whose door they knock on to swallow the "last Days" and imminence of the big A like they used to ?

  That is a really embarrassing message to actually put in to words.

  I reckon if the average JW is asked to explain his faith he would run a mile, if they can't just shove a couple of their trashy mags into the HH's hand they are gone.
