did you ever notice that elders tend to "bend" the scriptures when counciling you.... to fit their view of you or of the situation?.
i wonder what goes on before hand.. if they are going to council someone over a certain matter... do they talk between themselves and decide from what angle they will approach the subject at hand?.
they complain about false religion taking the bible and making it fit what they want to do in their lives, but i feel that they do the same when they feel a certain way about you or a matter they are counciling you for.. .
The amazing thing with cognitive dissonance is that you KNOW you are doing it! twisting scripture,being un-christian,whatever,how does that WORK?
But it does.weird.

this may be old news to some while most won't even know who he is.
in case you don't know him, he was a jw that defended many of the jw doctrine publicly.
he did this mainly in the form of two books, jw's defended and three dissertations on the teachings of jw's.
I have an abiding respect for Greg,I believe him to be sincere,but very mistaken. His writings were among the first I found when I went on line at the start of my fade,it was so wonderfull to find someone who felt the same as me about 1914!
I then graduated to other sites and felt I was home when I found this one.I do not agree with quite a lot of what he says,i.e he believes Jesus used the devine name in public,and he believes that there is much that is good about JW teachings,with his knowledge of Greek and the scriptures in general I fail to understand why he ever bothered to "defend" the Dubs.

Here in GB (Great Britain) a GB is a God Botherer,somebody who prays a lot. Being a secular society we don't have a lot of time for such people,but we have more sympathy for them than looneys like Sam Herd and the rest of the other "GB"

sure, so there is a serpent tempting eve in genesis 3, but no satan.

perhaps there are wide variations in opinion as to what is constituted 'worship'.
but why would an omnipotent, omniscient, all encompassing, self-fulfilled being need worship from lowly human beings?.
now, those who don't believe in god or any higher being, please don't turn this into a slamfest of insults against others who do believe.

the bible says to "remove the wicked man".
the scriptures teach that certain things are "works of the flesh".
some verses speak of "marking" or "taking special notice of" if a congregant is "disorderly".. where does the bible teach that a "sinner" should meet with 3 elders and they should hold a "judicial meeting to determine whether someone is repentant oe not"?

I recently E-mailed a friend who has just been DF'd in circumstances that are quite laughable,except if it happens to you.She is still a believer but is most upset at her unfair treatment,so I hope she reads the article,and the rest of what is an excellent site.
It could be though that she just thinks I have gone Apostate and I hear no more from her,ho hum,we shall see.
But the whole dis-fellowshipping thing is wrong in the way it is done,it is simply about rigid totalitarian style control.

Interesting too, that the WT never point out that Paul was writing to the Corinthians,so the meat for sale in the market would not have been bled in the way that Jews were used to,yet Paul was happy to eat it.

i sometimes go on the wt site to have a look to see what they have to say for themselves.
being a born-again christian i find some of the stuff make me laugh, some makes me sad and the odd thing makes me mad.
mostly i see insidious deceit in amongst the material presented.. anyhow, here is the latest article, no doubt with the "memorial" coming up.. the eucharistthe facts behind the ritual.

Thanks for reminding us of what Rev.5v10 actually says.The NWT has "over" instead of "on" but in the KIT has underneath the Greek word "upon".
I think there is a thread on here discussing this further bit of totally dis-honest translation,the Greek word for "over" is very different to the one for "on" or "upon"and "John" would have used it if that is what he meant,even if he wasn't the most elegent of writers in Greek.
