I always do the air quotation marks when I'm explaining that stupid phrase to people. I hate it! I'm still in contact with a few witnesses my family included, and they are always telling me that I should come back to "the truth" and that I know it's "the truth" ........ You get my meaning. They've been brainwashed into saying and believing that, that they don't think twice about using it. They are sheep!

The phrase "The Truth"
by lepermessiah inso, i am curious..... how many of you have a hard time getting that phrase out of your vocabulary?.
i have been conscienciously trying not to use it at all, so now when i am in a conversation with a jw, its amazing how often they use that phrase.
i look back and wonder "god, did i say that that often?

Hello everyone. It's been a long time since I've been to this site. I just want to vent a little. I was diagnosed with rapid cycling bipolar disorder early this year. My mother who is a DEVOTED JW is having a hard time accepting that I have a problem that "Jehovah" cant fix. I spent months slowly losing my mind. When I would ask her for help, or talked to her about it she would say: "You just need vitamins and Jehovah" . I know the Watchtower has been publishing a lot of things lately on mental illness. Anyway, I finally broke and I attmited myself to a psychiatric hospital. I was there for 8 days. My mother finally started taking me seriously and came down to be with me and help with the kids. The whole time she was here all she would talk about how I need to come back to the truth. It drove me nuts! Now, she calls me everyday to make sure I'm ok. I dont answer the phone because she bombards me with questions and harasses me about coming back to the "truth". Does anyone have a similar problem or have advice on how to deal with her?

Did you ever feel as if you were socially handicapped as a Witness?
by Hiddenwindow insome of my friends claim that growing up as witnesses was a normal experience, in the sense that they did not miss celebrating hollidays or associating with wordly people.
these friends are witnesses in good standing, therefore, i doubt their sincerity and feel that they just do not want to go agaist the party line.
in my case, since i always had the desire to participate in extracurricular activities in school (and did when i could), always felt actracted to politics and art, it was very hard.

An Average Apostate Day
by Farkel ini cannot understand why dubs are so terrified of apostates.
we all live mostly modest and normal lives, but dubs don't believe that.
so for all you lurking dubbies out there, i am going to tell what i think and do on .

Do you complicate life/things more than need be?
by LouBelle ini just know some people that tend to complicate issues a hellofa lot more than they really are.
they tend to make mountains out of mole hills, blow things out of proportion, worry far more than is necessary.. i don't understand why they 'thrive' on this type of lifestyle as it isn't healthy, definately not relaxing and they look like they are on edge and just can't be quiet.. are you one of those that complicates things more than they have to be?
or do you keep it simple.. lou - of the uncomplicated class..

I suffer from severe depression, so you can say I complicate things more than I should. I don't "thrive" on it though. I don't choose to be this way, I just can't help it. It's not as simple as how you state it. Some of us can't help the way we are. Believe me, I wish I was less complicated. I'm trying to change, but it's easier said than done.

Nov 15 WT - stumbled over a teaching? There's no where else to go!!!
by truthseeker ini just read the nov 15, wt - what a laugh.. so they admit some leave over their teachings and then they say there's no where else to go.
what a joke - they are liars.. .
was it a problem with a teaching?.

I just finished reading the first two articles in the Nov 15 Watchtower. It's funny how they try to make people think that all of us who are "inactive" are miserable. I was never happy as a JW. I didn't start being happy until I left. My family can't get it through their thick heads that I'm not coming back. Articles like these just makes them sink deeper into their delusion that all you need to be happy is "to serve Jehovah".

Wifes parents want to visit.
by dogon ini have not heard from my wifes parents, avid dubbers.
i thought it was because they did not approve that we did not have anything to with the dubbers.
we visited her sister and now they want to visit us.

I have to agree with you about this cult keeping families apart. I've been out for ten years and have had a shaky relationship with my JW family. They just can't accept the fact that I don't believe in their religion. They tell me how much I'm hurting them by turning my back on Jehovah. It's so stupid how they take it personally, when it has nothing to do with them and everything with the Borgs teachings. My sister is getting married in Dec and I've been banned from the wedding. She said that it hurt her to do that, but that her relationship with Jehovah was more important. =(

HELLO, I'M NEW AND.........
by billie jean ini never believed a word of any of it !.
raised a j.w from birth, i'd sit in the meetings and at conventions wondering what the hell it was all about and that it was all one big joke and imagine that they''d all suddenly turn around laughing and pointing at me !!
saying something like "haha the joke's on you".

Welcome! I feel the same as you. I wasn't born into the "truth", but I was brought up as a JW from the age of 6. I hate what the religion does to families. It's all so stupid. Rant away, it'll make you feel a lot better.

No. Everyone around me did though. My Mom and sister do, all the time. So sad.
