My mom got into this psychosis when I was 13, tried to make me a jw, drove my dad right outta the house with this behavior, & was just a nutcase! It was like the pod people invaded her! Well, talk about a rebel with a cause! My cause: to irritate the piss out of the jws at every turn. I refused to be bent into their version of reality. After age 15 & a half, I refused to even go.
I think part of the anger stems from parent's skewed version of history, selective memories of what REALLY happened, & refusal to take any responsability for the damage they wreak!
Back on up there to Shera's post. At some point, humanity should kick in & tell "parents", "hey, they are suggesting I abuse my kid here, the stuff they are promoting isn't healthy, is making my family miserable, & maybe I need to rethink this"!
How many people here have parents with a rather tainted memory of what actually occurred, & won't even own up to stuff they most certainly did?

Angry Kids
by LongHauler inall right, obviously i'm a little new here so bear with me.
just out of curiosity, has anyone here that was raised as a jay-dub felt resentment or anger or animosity toward thier parents?
i wanted nothing to do with the cult even at a fairly early age, but would a person feel that way if they had believed as a teen?

(((((((cbeme)))))
I was only forcibly detained in the watchtower concentration camp from ages 13-16, but saw a lot & went through a lot for not believing in them.
I felt like the kid in The Emperor's New Clothes!
I also ended up moving 2,600 miles away from my toxic mother & her psychosis, she has a po box on me if she needs to contact me. You will do fine, forge on ahead, do not look back or second guess yourself. Your non-jw relatives probably won't understand, because they have never lived through the joy of a jw parent. But you are a survivor, my dear. You are woman, & we hear you roar! -

Yes, I agree it was nothing like an assembly or any other jw event. No one even asked me "what" I was, Christian or non. No one shoved any religious beliefs down my throat or was judgemental in any way. I first went 2 years ago, skipped last year, & returned Sat. this year. The first time I went, I was uneasy also, because I am not a religious type & don't go to church. But I was quickly at ease & felt comfortable.
And the love was real, not a put on. I was also impressed at how many there never were jws, they just got interested in the plight of the jws through friends or neighbors, checked it out & started doing whatever they could to help.
I went dressed as myself, as you can see. I saw people wandering around, socializing & just enjoying themselves. I would reccomend this to anyone! -

Jess,
It might do you some god to go to the library and get some self help books on co-dependency, or get them off Amazon.com. Books such as Women Who Love Too Much, or Codependent No More. You have already had way more than your share of unhppiness, you deserve a great life! -

I am not a religious person, never have been. There were others there like me. It's not like an assembly, because you can go dressed as yourself, you can get up & go out into the living room areas & socialize & no one will give you dirty looks for missing 'spiritual fruit', lol. I didn't see any kids getting the shit kicked outta them, everyone looked happy, lots of hugs were exchanged, & many went just for the fellowship & to make new friends. Not all "talks" were even religious in nature on the Sat. am I went. I will go again next year, becaue of the ones that were Christian, they were the most balanced Christians I ever saw. having once been part of a group shoving their beliefs down other's throats, I think they know better. I would recdomend it to anyone, you won't be disappointed!

I did want to see flower's little cutie pie up closer, but I am afraid he was overwhelmed by all us huggy ladies. Love to all, old friends and new :)
