In the 50-60 era while i was growing up in the boonies, this type of dancing was decent, enjoyable, and fun
(for the adults).
Never was it suggested that this was immoral, it was fun ! And i never heard of anyone committing fornication
while this was popular. Usually during and after the county fair this was the thing to do.
And now because some elder thinks it is bad, everyone quits ???
perhaps if some of the people he influences were to ignore him, things might change.
Have him do a little research on music, and dancing/social customs of the 50's.

Satan is certainly a wiley devil! He came in the guise of Square Dancing!
by Lady Zombie inrecently a few threads have remarked upon how restrictive the jws have become in the last decade or so in terms of activities and the amount of freedom alloted to individuals.. well, i can ballpark estimate when it started in my area.
it was the mid to late 80's.
throughout most of the 80's, my congregation frequently had potlucks and days at the park when all the local congregations would gather for fellowship.. there was a lot of laughs, lots of grilling, and easy interactions with other jws.

The point that amazed me was when you stated that you both served in several different congregations and the attitude was the same ! I somehow thought(fantasy) that things like this only happened in the cong. i once attended.

Thank you for the replies. I have followed many of the DA comments made here, but the urgency and focus of my two associates made me wonder if there was something that I may have missed.

This afternoon I went out to lunch with a few witnesses who were talking and talking about what
a GREAT district assembly program there is going to be this year.
They have not gone yet, but people from their old congregation which is up in Northern Wisconsin
have already been to their DA.
There is supposedly a "BIG" announcement that they were unable to share with my lunch buddies, and
we were all really curious as to what this could be?
I feigned curiosity during the conversation, but I have the feeling that it is something really silly.
Did the WTS make a new date as to when Armageddon is supposed to occur?
They made it seem to be a really earth-shaking part.
Does anyone know what the BIG announcement is, or what it could allude to ? -

I was one for 20 years, and am now seriously considering going back after years and years as a JW.
If I remember correctly, the "Invisible kingdom" was something that is within a persons heart.
I just did some searching and found this statement :
When the Pharisees inquired about the Kingdom of God, Jesus said that the Kingdom of God is not something that can be observed; nor will they say, "Look here it is!" or "There it is!" For in fact, the Kingdom of God is among you. [Lk. 17:20-1] [Note: Some Bible translations say "within you."
When questioned by Pilate as to where His Kingdom was, Jesus said, "My Kingdom is not from this world. If My Kingdom were from this world, My followers would be fighting to keep Me from being handed over to the Jews. But as it is, My Kingdom is not from here." [Jn. 18:36]
It is very important for Christians to realize from the two previous passages that the Kingdom of God is not physical in nature. It is an invisible, spiritual Kingdom, among [within] the people.
here is the site if you need some more information,

We bought a house with a large lot about the time when I was getting serious about leaving the jw's.
Nicer house, same price as the older one, but a larger lot.
Well,, about 3 months ago while attending a Sunday meeting one of the elders pulled me aside as I was getting ready to leave
and asked me what was going on, why my attendance at the meetings was really falling off.
I told him that I was busy, working more to help one of my daughter's pay her college expenses. He cut me off and said that the reason
I was not attending all the meetings, and staying active was because we had bought a "bigger house with more responsibilities
that keep me away from theocratic activities."
I bit my tongue, and smiled at him and said " I believe that you have more important things to critisize,I've been part of this congregation for over 30 years and did pretty much everything that the BOE asked me to do and where did it get me?
My life is not yours to play around with anymore." and I walked away.
Have not heard from him at all since that encounter.
