It's not a subject most of us wants to think about, but watching someone you love die a painful death surely makes you question the rights and wrongs of it. My father, who suffered lung cancer, was given a large doze of morphine, which I am sure hastened his death (uniofficially) - it would have been cruel to have prolonged his suffering. We all understand the concept of euthanasia for our pets - nobody wants them to suffer, so why is it different when it comes to humans. Undoubtedly, it is the religious issue that gets in the way of making any progress on this and that is not fair for those of us who are not relogious or, if they are, do not believe it to be a sin. With tight guidelines etc. there must be a better way to end your life than in agony, or unable to eat and drink and, in effect, starving to death.

Right to Die Issue Terminally Ill, Hopelessly Paralized, Etc..What Are Your Thoughts?
by frankiespeakin infirst off let me say this is not about me, i'm happy and healthy.
it really about all the suffering i see people going thru.
examples in my family over the years have caused me to think very seriously this.. i could give you a couple of examples and i'm sure some of our posters can tell other horror stories they'd witnessed where perhaps it would have been much better for them and their family if they could have passed away painlessly and with much more dignity.. one of my sisters developed breast cancer and died after about a 12month struggle, we saw her waste away to just skin and bones, it was hard on me as well as her two young children and husband.

Fabulous food cooked by my sons, over indulgence, stupid competitive games, christmas t.v., beauty products, digital photo frame, purse, booze. But the most important of all is time with my family - I love them sooo much.

Why do Ex-JWs start celebrating pagan Christmas?
by DubR inhiya guys and gals.
im not trying to be self-righteous but i want to understand the thought process of someone who knows the origins of christmas, but starts celebrating it (putting up christmas tree, exchanging wrapped gifts; repeating merry christmas to everyone they see in the month of december)??
it seems very silly to me (imo) after knowing how and why christmas was created (to cater to pagans sun worship and convert to christianity)!!

Let's face it -none of them would if they DIDN'T WANT TO. They have spent some or all of their lives being told what they can and cannot do so they are not about to do something just because everyone else does it. For most, I imagine, it is just a 'winter celebration' and indeed in some politically correct areas of the UK they have renamed it a Winter Celebration so as not to upset other religions. Also, there are many non-christians that celebrate it - obviously not thinking about the Jesus aspect of the story, but the cultural one. As for upsetting children when they realise Santa is not true - this is absolute rubbish. Has there been a single therapist in the world who has had to counsel someone due to the upset caused when they realised Santa was not true? Of course not! If it was so upsetting then why would these people go on to tell the same story to their Kids? Bright lights, family, food, booze, cake, no work, relaxation, t.v., kid's amazement, sentimentality, surprises, glitter, stars, tinsel, crackers, silly games, dressing up, little black dress, kids out with new bikes, chocolate, christmas pudding, turkey, tablecloths and napkins, good wishes from friends, family walks to burn off the calories, cards from long lost friends/family, happy faces - at least for one day, mistletoe, mulled wine, etc. etc. etc. that's why ex JWs celebrate it - along with a good healthy doze of 'UP YOURS'!

Any Freelancers here willing to show the way?

The only time I was compelled to write anything was when my beautiful dog of 13 years died last year. I was so heartbroken that the only way I could see around it was to write some poetry. It matters not that anyone else likes it, but I found it really cathartic. I am going to try the same thing around the break up of my marriage. I don't think kids are encoraged enough to experiment with writing - it's almost like it's someone else's job, but everyone has something to say, and saying it in their own way is to be encouraged.

I remember my ex (JW) who was a 'best man' at his brothers KH wedding had no idea about the history of toasting and at the end of his 'speech' asked everyone to 'toast' the bride and groom........lol. Utter silence!

My 16 year old son is starting to see the light
by vivalavida inon march this year (2009) i dad myself from the jws.
of course, it was nice to finally feel free, real free, after over 40 years of mind control.
i don't write much here but i feel this is worth sharing.. one measure i took before leaving was to take my then 15 year old son for a walk and explain to him that things would be different from the jws standpoint, but that i would always love him and that he could come to me at any time.. one thing that was very hard for me, is the fact that i separated from my wife, with which i was having problems for a long time already.

Hi Viv, You sound like a wonderful father. I always believe that ultimately, life is simple. So, you can give your boy the facts as simply as you can. It is the WT that try to complicate everything, but your son will see through it. I myself have been in a similar situation with my boys, and I am so pleased that they have reasoned for themselves. Kids nowadays, are so much more astute than we were, and can handle different viewpoints much better. Let your relationship with him be the most important thing, and, hopefully everything else will fall into place. It did with me - I went from being the mum who would shortly be destroyed to being the mum who had im!portant knowledge to pass on My thoughts are with you. x

For all dog owners....One happy dog!
by restrangled ini have resisted buying a dog bed, just because they are too expensive.
i can slap together some old blankets, sheets etc., and pile them up, and the old boy will happily lay down on them.. today at sams wholesale, i found a bed for $29.00 with a zipper so i can wash the cover.
it was a monster to get into the car, stuff in the back seat, and it obstructed all vision.

Aw how lovely. I lost my dog in February after 13 faithful years together and one of the worst things I had to do was to throw out his bed and toys. It was so painful - I would never have imagined it to be so bad. All of you who have dogs, make sure you enjoy them and treat them well - they surely are a 'man's' best friend.

What prompts one to become a Jehovah's Witness?

I think that basicilly everyone is looking for a peaceful life with a wonderful future for themselves and their families. When someone offers them the 'Disney' life of happiness, fluffy animals, la, la, la, it is difficult to resist, especially if your own life has been difficult. For many people, deep down, I am sure they have doubts, but they put them aside, because it just might be true. At some point reality kicks in and you either buck against everything you have held true or hold on for dear life to something that is better than NOTHING. Personally, I feel that kids should be educated about cult tactics when they are teenagers as this is something that can take them by surprise and if they are not forewarned and they have no defence to the false love that can come their way. Maybe we should be providing information to schools, colleges etc. Does anyone of know of any programmes on cults etc that are currently being used by schools?

Jesus tells kiddies not to play wih penis' or vulvas?
by lovelylil inon the thread about the pdf for the 2003 listening to the great teacher book, i posted about the arguement my hubby and i had over this book when it first came out.
i threw out the 2 copies my kids had and then regretted it because i think this book is very telling about the wt organization and the issue of pedophiles and child molestation.
i wanted to address what happened here too for discussion.. i am not good at copying over texts so perhaps someone else can post here pages 59-60 in this book where sexual content is explained in vivid detail using the terms penis and vulva.

Looking at the page scanned, it says, apart from the sexual content, that Jehovah hates violence. Well what about armageddon. The biggest act of violence the world will ever know. How can you HATE violence and at the same time use it to sort out the world's problems?

SEX
by billie jean ini don't mean to sound crude but ive always wondered what witnesses are allowed to do in their marriage (sex wise) only i always imagined that they wouldn't ever deviate from the 'missionary possition' and what about oral sex, is that allowed ?.
i spoke to an 'on the fence' old friend of mine a while ago he'd recently married and he said that a sister in their congregation had told his wife that anything other than 'missionary' was totaly out, he was angry at this statement and told me he thought it was "a matter of conscience" .
but i'm still curious !

Oops!! First post on this site and it happens to be about sex . Well I remember being told by my husband (afte a specific talk in the 80's) that oral sex was wrong because it worshipped the genitalia, a bit like birthdays worship the person. It made no sense to me at all and made me laugh. However, (excuse the pun) it left a bitter taste in my mouth and made me feel uncomfortable.
Where do these people get their information from? Whose business is it? We kiss lips - does that mean we workship lips? ABSOLUTELY MAD. Of course, reasoning goes out the window when the big WTS speaks.
