  Freemasons

  i am posting this thread because i've seen some people ask "who are the freemasons?

  back a few years ago, i had never heard of the masons before.. then, i had some masons involved in my life, so i did a lot of research into them (at the library, on the internet, in books, testimony by former masons, etc.)..

  i will start a thread soon and post my beliefs and opinions on freemasonry.. here are a few things i have found in my research.. in a "well-ordered" masonic lodge, masons are allowed to believe in any god they want to, except jesus christ.. in fact, in a "well-ordered" masonic lodge, the name jesus christ should not even be mentioned.. that makes one wonder, doesn't it?.

  I have absolutely no interest in playing your word games (complete with mis-quotations) or attempting to discuss the finer points of Freemasonry with you when you say things like:

  ..you say that all the info on here is misinformation.

  Where did I say that?

  Also, you say that there is no reason to defend Freemasonry, and yet, what have you been doing on this Thread?

  Against what?

  I cant compete with that sort of thing so I therefore "retire hurt" and admit that you are the undisputed champion.

  (Handing over imitation of Lonsdale Belt and looking forward to acceptance speech).

  Nice try Undisfellowshipped but this fish aint takin the bait.

  For one thing I can see no reason whatsoever for anyone to have to defend Freemasonary and for another I am not qualified to explain all its aspects and its structure and organisation.

  Your comparisons to anything remotely Watchtowerish do not hold water so these wont tempt me to explain misinformation spread by persons who are obviously anti-Masonic.

  You see, unlike the Watchtower, it isnt even necessary. (End of story)

  Am I the only contributor here that is actually a Freemason?

  It never ceases to amaze me what rubbish gets talked about Freemasons by non-Freemasons. Its just like those with no experience of the WBTS telling dubs all about the "truth".

  Larc has made the most sensible comments so far and to the best of my knowledge has the facts right.

  I will not get involved with the misinformation here, there is far too much of it to ever sort out. I will just sit on the sidelines and have a good chuckle at some of the "absolute facts" that are quoted by the "knowledgeable".

  Any other Freemasons want to join me?

  when talking to someone who never was a jw, and they say to you how could you ever fall for all that?

  it does bother me, cause i think it is some what condescending?

  how do you feel about these questions?

  Im another "never been" although I had Bible Studies lasting many years due to my moving around. All my family are "in".

  Can I just say that I do not think everyone is unable to see what the attraction of the dubs could be and how strong it would be for some people in certain situations. I am talking from experience when I say that I can clearly see it.

  What stopped me personally from "going all the way"? Easy! It was the information available on the Internet. By this I dont mean sites like this, I mean the ability to look up the historical background of the organisation and to check its teachings.

  Many, many people (my family for example) did not have this facility available to them so it was very easy to convince them that what was being taught was the "truth".

  Yes, they were also vulnerable and were looking for it but the main reason they accepted it was that they had no way of checking things.There is no way that they were all stupid and I don't think that way of anyone who is a dub or even an ex-dub.

  call yourself apostates!

  when in the wt we seldom heard of anyone becoming "apostate", sure there was 1 or 2 in the usa somewhere (durrr) but very seldom would we call anyone who left "apostates", so why does it appear that everyone calls themselves apostate if they left for other reasons?

  the mindset of most jws was that an "apostate" was someone who left the wts to join another religion in the world empire of false religion (btg), right?

  not that it matters at all but just wondering.. .

  The reason that we hear the word "apostate" more often these days is that the JWs have changed the meaning of the dictionary definition in the same way that they have changed the meaning of the word "truth".

  The description "apostate" can only properly be applied to a person whereas we find them talking about "apostate literature" and "apostate web sites" etc

  What they actually mean is that in their opinion the material contained in them is produced by apostate persons.

  If they incorrectly attach the word to so many other parts of our language there is little wonder that we hear the term so often now.

  The staff gave George a farewell party after his 30 years working in the stores. As he was a bit simple and unmarried they decided to book him a room at the hotel for the night in case he had too much to drink.

  As a special surprise present they also booked a stripper to visit him in his room.

  When George opened his door later that night he was confronted by the half naked stripper. "I'm here to offer you supersex", she said.

  After a short pause George replied "I think I'll have the soup"

  597 bce or 607 bce !

  not my usual post - but can any of you reference any material for me that highlights 597 bce a relevant date, rather than 607 bce.. an old friend phoned this morning (who is a jw still) and wanted to know about alternate chronology, aside from what the wts teach.. any info' appreciated !.

  I have the Watchtower chronology compared to all the historical evidence in an easy to understand format. There are 20 pages of it but I could send it you as an e-mail attachment if you are interested. I am at: [email protected].

  The info is good when discussing the subject with Witnesses because it compares Watchtower doctrine, history and the Bible in easy to follow sections.

  Anyway, let me know.

  An Odd one Out?

  this question must have been asked before but i cant find it with the search facility.. does anyone know of a christian religious denomination that only has doctrine and dogma that is not disputed by any other christian religious denomination?.

  this of course is entirely different to saying does that denomination agree with the doctrine and dogma of all other religious denominations.. i hope that someone will give this some thought because i could not come up with one.. thanks.

  Good post FR.

  I have tried some of these points on JWs but they always wriggle out by saying that Russell had nothing to do with the start of Jehovahs Witnesses. They say that Rutherford started the Witnesses long after Russells death which is obviously true.

  Over on Quotes site it even tells you:

  *** Awake! 1951 May 8 ***

  ...who is preaching the teaching of Pastor Russell? Certainly not Jehovah's Witnesses! They can not be accused of following him, for they neither quote him as an authority nor publish or distribute his writing.

  However, you make some good points that do in fact apply to the Witnesses and which they can't wriggle out of.
