call yourself apostates!

when in the wt we seldom heard of anyone becoming "apostate", sure there was 1 or 2 in the usa somewhere (durrr) but very seldom would we call anyone who left "apostates", so why does it appear that everyone calls themselves apostate if they left for other reasons?

the mindset of most jws was that an "apostate" was someone who left the wts to join another religion in the world empire of false religion (btg), right?

not that it matters at all but just wondering.. .

The reason that we hear the word "apostate" more often these days is that the JWs have changed the meaning of the dictionary definition in the same way that they have changed the meaning of the word "truth".

The description "apostate" can only properly be applied to a person whereas we find them talking about "apostate literature" and "apostate web sites" etc

What they actually mean is that in their opinion the material contained in them is produced by apostate persons.

If they incorrectly attach the word to so many other parts of our language there is little wonder that we hear the term so often now.

i have an 84 year old customer that comes in every week with just a ton of "groaner" type jokes for me.

i am never prepared with any jokes in return, so i'm hoping y'all can assist.

i would like to start this thread with hopes you can post your really bad jokes...clean preferably.

The staff gave George a farewell party after his 30 years working in the stores. As he was a bit simple and unmarried they decided to book him a room at the hotel for the night in case he had too much to drink.

As a special surprise present they also booked a stripper to visit him in his room.

When George opened his door later that night he was confronted by the half naked stripper. "I'm here to offer you supersex", she said.

After a short pause George replied "I think I'll have the soup"

597 bce or 607 bce !

not my usual post - but can any of you reference any material for me that highlights 597 bce a relevant date, rather than 607 bce.. an old friend phoned this morning (who is a jw still) and wanted to know about alternate chronology, aside from what the wts teach.. any info' appreciated !.

I have the Watchtower chronology compared to all the historical evidence in an easy to understand format. There are 20 pages of it but I could send it you as an e-mail attachment if you are interested. I am at: [email protected].

The info is good when discussing the subject with Witnesses because it compares Watchtower doctrine, history and the Bible in easy to follow sections.

Anyway, let me know.

An Odd one Out?

this question must have been asked before but i cant find it with the search facility.. does anyone know of a christian religious denomination that only has doctrine and dogma that is not disputed by any other christian religious denomination?.

this of course is entirely different to saying does that denomination agree with the doctrine and dogma of all other religious denominations.. i hope that someone will give this some thought because i could not come up with one.. thanks.

I have tried some of these points on JWs but they always wriggle out by saying that Russell had nothing to do with the start of Jehovahs Witnesses. They say that Rutherford started the Witnesses long after Russells death which is obviously true.

Over on Quotes site it even tells you:

*** Awake! 1951 May 8 ***

...who is preaching the teaching of Pastor Russell? Certainly not Jehovah's Witnesses! They can not be accused of following him, for they neither quote him as an authority nor publish or distribute his writing.

However, you make some good points that do in fact apply to the Witnesses and which they can't wriggle out of.

There is indisputable evidence that the world is round therefore it cannot involve dogma. So you see there is no need for fence sitting.

With regard to the topic of this thread I would say " Im not sure which side is right because I have studied the subject"

In my humble opinion, to say at this point in time that one side or the other of the creationist/evolutionist debate has been proven beyond doubt would be "just plain ignorant" (for want of a better expression).

That's my dogma and I'm sticking to it so don't you dare disagree with me.

Of course I could just toss a coin if that would make you happy.

We have the theory of evolution and the theory of creation. Neither can be supported with indisputable fact and therefore neither one is a certainty. Both belong in the realms of belief.

Seldom do we see anyone getting worked up as much as when we tell them we do not agree with their beliefs. Check out 1. Creationists 2. Evolutionists and 3. JWs! There all dogmatic.

This thread has an excellent title but it misses out the Creationist part

Hi Ozzie and Apocalypse

I think that what is meant here is that the Watchtower teaching regarding Matthew 24:44 has fulfilment at Armageddon whereas 24:45 was fulfilled 1914-19.

I also believe that the context of these two verses in the Scriptures show that they take place at the same time i.e. Armageddon.

Apocalypse please correct me if I do not have this right. Good post by the way!

Does Our Arguing Scare People Off???

with so much going on over here, do you think that newbies, lurkers, or potenial apostates could or do get scared off from this place?

if someone is on the fence and they want to explore the internet and are warned that all you'll see are disgruntled apostates, could these forums make them think the "faithful and discreet slave" is actually right?

Some excellent points made here to which I would like to add:

I mentioned in an earlier post on the board that I had tried to get a doubting dub interested in reading here. Whilst wishing to exit the borg he did not wish to exit the Christian religion and that is where the problem lies.

He felt that the atheists had a fairly strong grip and seemed to shout the loudest. Anyway, it wasnt for him. It was not the arguing that put him off.

Another point that he noted was that long time posters with big titles and big numbers after their names we able to freely sprout rubbish for which a newbie or short time poster got hammered for.

I thought the observations were quite interesting.
