Spot on Gretchen.These 17 points cannot be directly related to cults or the JW religion.But by using them Diotrephes is able to cherry pick scriptures in order to present his religion in a favourable light.
He has done this in a cleaver way. You are supposed to be saying "Hey! Look at this. the Witnesses have every scriptural justification for their weird belief system".

Nice to have yet another JW on board. However you will find that most here have heard all your JW reasoning before and found that it doesn't hold water.
Most of your seventeen points have nothing whatsoever to do with high control groups but give you a platform to promote your beliefs.

i haven't had a chance to read crisis of conscience yet, it's a 2 month wait here unfortunately for delivery and i feel it will probably answer some of my questions regarding the gb but it occurs to me - i wonder if they *really* believe what they teach, if they *really* believe it's the truth or are they really manipulating money makers operating a dysfunctional mlm scheme that ruins people's lives.
or perhaps somewhere in the middle lol.. oh yeah, and if anyone knows how the 'new light' is supposedly delivered i'd love to hear about it.. what do you think?

There is one very easy way to get a positive answer to the question that is the subject of this thread.

I did. I asked that they provide only a "yes" or "no" answer and I would accept what they said. My letter went several times around the world and some months later I got the biggest load of waffle you ever read. The words "yes" or "no" did not figure anywhere in the reply.
So I asked again. This time I was told to approach local elders!!!!!
In my opinion this is a positive response in the negative (?).

Can anyone remember who it was that said " I learn many new things every day but when I go to bed at night I know less of the sum total of human knowledge that I did when I got up in the morning".
In other words, on a percentage basis of what we already know, the sum total of human knowledge increases on a daily basis at a rate far in excess of the information that any individual could ever cope with.

it always takes at least 2 witnesses to accuse a brother of wrong doing.
if there is only one witness, it's the word of one against the other.
but if there is a camera that films the wrong doing, could this camera be like a second witness, or does it have to be like the bible says, minimum of 2 witnesses to accuse.
This is one interesting question that leads to another. Could DNA evidence be used as a second witness?
I know that in the U.K. at least, an accused person cannot be convicted on photographic or video evidence but a conviction can be obtained on DNA evidence.

minimus started a great thread a few days ago asking what was "it" that finally made you leave the "truth"?.
the replies showed that, for the most part, it was the unloving, uncaring attitude displayed by most of the 'brothers & sisters' - elders particularly.
some posters even made the point that this lack of love drove them out despite them harbouring fears that they might actually be leaving the truth.

You miss out a third! The ones that make it up as they go along. All my family seem to do this and the mind boggles at the things that they come up with.
There were computers and space ships before the flood. There will be hail stones as big as soccer balls at armageddon etc. etc.You could devote a whole thread to the stupid things they say.

i havent' been to kingdom hall in over a year, and i haven't talked to any dubs other than my parents for three years now.
i was wondering if anybody still had any contacts in the truth and how the average dub is feeling about the immediacy of armageddon?.
i remember growing up that this was an omnipresent motivation, especially when the whole "peace and security" thing happened in the early nineties, and we were expecting "sudden destruction" after the collapse of the soviet union.. but safe to say, i'm not worried about armageddon anymore - and i was wondering what the feeling was in the congregations.... czar
It just occurred to me that the dubs may well be right about Armageddon being close.
In my Geology class we have just being studying scientific (and other) methods of predicting those catastrophic / cataclysmic world events. A part of this was to look at the relguarity with which they happened and it appears that we are due one within the next twenty-five years or so!!!!
