by KingAgag ini told my wife some time back that i would fade, and i compronised that i'd still attend the memorials and assemblies (at least for now).

she said she doesn't care if i listen or not, it is more to help her with the baby.

Who Really IS the Faithful and Discreet Slave?
by AGuest into the household of god, isarel... and those who go with... may you have peace!.
when among those loyal to the wtbts, i recall having conversations with those of "the great crowd," who believed that, while perhaps christ led "the anointed," it was the ""faithful and discreet slave" who led them.
certainly, the wtbts teaches this lie.

The other thread I was referring to was "Earthquakes, Wars, and Famine are not signs of the End" by Doug Mason.

Since I was raised as a JW and had that dogma shoved down my throat since birth, arguing about what a Bible verse means doesn't really appeal to me anymore.
What I do appreciate about this thread, however, and other threads like it, (such as the recent one about the sign of Matthew 24), is that it presents a different view than that of the WT Society.
And the more of these different takes on the Bible that I see, the more obvious it is to me that JWs have completely distorted the simple message of the Bible account to bolster their own power over their followers.
So from that point of value, I really, really enjoyed this thread and look forward to more that clear the forest from the trees.

Dumbest Awake Title Ever?
by metatron ini hold in my hand the nov. awake magazine entitled "technology - blessing or curse?"..
now, i understand the need for balance and moderation in using technology, as the magazine says - but could they come up with a more intelligent sounding title?
it makes the question sound as if abandoning technology might be a solution, a considered choice, a real possibility.

I've had the swine flu shot. No side effects noted yet.
I've had all my shots all my life. Never thought much about it. I was talking to a male nurse a few years ago, though, and he insisted that his child was autistic because of vaccines. It's made me paranoid. I've brought my child along slowly when it comes to shots.
I've seen the Dateline episode that talked about the man who started the vaccine/autism controversy. I know vaccines do a great amount of good. But I'm not discounting the possibility that a small part of the population may be more susceptible to terrible side effects.

The first time I went "inactive" (before I ever read any Franz or Hassan) I looked around a bit at other religions. One that interested me was Scientology. (Hm... out of one cult and into another, I know...)
The name sounded, well, scientific. And my brother used to like reading Hubbard's Battlefield Earth series. So I went to a bookstore and looked at "Dianetics".
I immediately thought, "This book seems to have a lot of made up words." And it's true. Here's a sampling of the Scientology vocabulary: "obnosis", "entheta", "enturbulate". I quickly decided this religion was too complicated for my taste and never had an interest in it again.
Thank God. When I see Tom Cruise, John Travolta, and Kirstie Alley I just feel disgusted because of what I now know about cults.
How about you? Did you ever have any attractions to other dangerous religions?
