Well...errrr...um...I was born in 1954 so I actually was a kid in the 60's so I guess that would qualify me to reply to this mind-altering post.
well, the shunning begins.
we finally had "the" discussion with my parents, that we no longer consider ourselves jw's, and a little bit of why we felt that way.
of course, "dad the elder and po" and mom the pioneer dutifully informed us that not only will they be "loyal to the organization" and shun us completely, but that he would immediately let the other elders know, so that proper judicial action could be taken.. it was a heart wrenching discussion, with all of us, including my two young boys (9 and 10) all balling our eyes out.

My heart goes out to you and your family. I have been shunned for the past two years by my mom, sister and brother and it still hurts (not df'd or da'd...just "faders")...but less as time goes on. The saddest part is that my mom will never get to know her great granddaughter and her great grandson who is due any day now. Yup...the Watchtower does not practice Christianity...just organized cruelty. Hang in there. You will always have the support and love of this group here who have also walked in your shoes.

i've noticed a positive trend going on here lately.
ex-elders, ex-bethelites, ex-servants and ex-pioneers are being less attacked.
there was a time that all one had to say was that they were an elder while active witnesses, and the result was a verbal stoning.
Minimus: I have always had the utmost respect for any one of "position" who contributes to this board. I figure it this way: Any elder, pioneer, MS, CO, DO...(oh my...so many titles; so little time)...who has left the organization must have brains, a conscience and a heart...otherwise they probably wouldn't be here.

Marking my son for marrying an "unbeliever" (unbaptized publisher raised in the JW's studying for baptism)...and not even warning him and then giving the talk two days before the wedding and then boycotting the wedding and urging the congregation (and the other congregation sharing our hall) to do the same. In the marking talk the elder said that my son had been warned, when if fact he hadn't. We got it on tape...the slander. We took it to the CO, the DO...the big guys in NY...and they denied any wrongdoing. What a load of CRAP! So it was SO LONG SUCKERS! Cathy L.
P.S. We haven't been to meetings for about four years and not one phone call or letter from any of our loving brothers and sisters. Go figure. Good riddance.
after reading some of the pain that you've gone through, in many cases, the elders weren't there at all for you.
i'm wondering what your biggest complaint about the elders is.
Ahhhhhhhhhhh...so many gripes...so little time.
Their willingness to "cover up" for each other and lie without blinking an eye.
Being so high and mighty that they could do what they wanted and get away with it while the "little ones" couldn't pass gas without being called into the back room for their transgressions. Double standards.
Talking the talk but not walking the walk.
Nepotism: "Favoritism...especially to relatives."
Being cruel, unloving, judgmental, arrogant, self-righteous, cold-hearted, mean, nasty and hypocritical S.O.B's.

Getting the phone call from my sister that my dad, age 64, had died of a massive heart attack. Never got to say good-bye. He wasn't a witness (lucky guy)...but he had unconditional love for me and I know would never shun me like the rest of my family is. I sure miss him...and that was almost 20 years ago. Cathy L.

They (the elders & Good OLD Boys in NY) messed with us one too many times.
I also agree with Blondie...NO LOVE.
The rank and file aren't supposed to lie but the elder's are experts at this.
Making up so many rules that weren't based on anything WE could find in the Bible.

my mother told me that last night's meeting was about how we all simply have to do more.
if we are asked to work on a saturday, we should know that saturday morning belongs to jehovah and that the automatic answer simply is "no, that time is set aside for jehovah.
" he said our congregation is down to 60 something publishers and we simply just can't afford to lose anymore..... he gave an example of a boy and his dad that were out hunting.
That poor kid is probably gonna trip and fall while running so fast and he forgot to put the safety on and his gun is loaded and so when he falls he shoots himself in the head and ends up...dead. Pushing people to do "MORE" is just killing them off slowly but surely. A typical CO illustration. Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!! Cathy L.
