i, for the first time, talked to my jw family!
mostly my sister in law!
she got really pissed with me for what i brought up!
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh my little Butt; families still mired in the org. don't want to listen...I remember when I was like that. Of course, we've become so much more open minded and "evolved" than those in our families remaining in the org...and it is still so hard to accept that they just can't THINK FOR THEMSELVES!!

being raised in a cult and having everything planned for you, all questions you have either answered or forbidden, and your future planned out for you almost to the hour, is it that unreasonable to say you could be afraid to be free?
case in point - me.
as soon as i was away from the home i grew up in, it wasnt 6 months before i was engaged.
Ahhhhhhhhhh wander...have you ever seen the movie "The Shawshank Redemption" (spelling?)? There is an old guy in it that gets let out of prison; he's been there pretty much all his life...and he can't adjust to being out because that was the only life he knew. He eventually hung himself. Now I am sure you are NOT suicidal and I certainly hope you are not feeling "loneliness" to that degree...but I'm just saying that when we've been raised as JW's all our lives, or even shorter portions of our lives, and we leave...it's like being let out of "prison". It was for me and still is. I have had trouble adjusting to the freedom and the life of a "worldling" because the JW way was the only way I ever knew. Sometimes I think you can take the JW out of the org...but you can't always take the org. out of the JW. Fortunately, I have had the luxury of a husband who is on my same wavelength...and someday you will find that person too wander.
But I think you're in need of the true freedom right now that comes from "no strings attached" with anyone. Do the stuff you can do while single and unburdened of the responsibilities of a relationship. You're young, terribly handsome and funnier than heck. When you've "seen the world" some more...that girl will be waiting for you.
Sometimes I hate this forum because I see the pain that the experience of being a JW has done to people like you and me and others. But mostly I love this forum because of the bonds it gives me with those who have "been there, done that". Feel free to e-mail Gary and I at [email protected] . It's always good to have someone you can dump your problems on!

i just wanted to say thanks to all the wonderful friends who came to the 1st annual apostacheesebeerfest and were so good-natured to put up with less than desireable conditions (to say the least)!

Thanks Butt & Mr. Rat...I love you guys...yup...I really do. I guess I started this thread because I felt a little sad about the fest and that maybe people didn't have that much fun. (Can you say PARANOID???? I think that comes from being a JW for all those years). I also wanted people to know that I'm really not as BORING as I seemed at the fest. I just want another chance to get together with everyone; especially now that the "ice" is broken and I know what an apostafest involves. I wish you could have been here too Jeff...but next year???? And who's to say those who live fairly close to Point now can't get together on a more regular basis and go out or stuff like that? Now that we've found each other...we shouldn't let go. ("I'll never let go Jack...I'll never let go")
I'm glad we're all out of the org and can get to know each other without those stupid JW rules & regulations hiding our real personalities. And they do. Being a JW makes you a FAKE.
Man oh man oh man...I am really getting mushy in my old age here. When I want to smile I just think of all your faces and it makes me feel like I've just had a nice shot of morphine.

I apologize to everyone for being less than the "hostest with the mostest". I guess I just got myself worn out that week, was nervous about a knee scope I had last Wed. and then with the foul weather...I think I had a minor nervous breakdown!! But it was totally needless because of the great group of people who assembled at my humble abode and made the best out of the situation.
I don't think in my whole life I have ever met such a giving group of people as I have on this forum and those that I actually got to meet face to face at the apostafest. You have gone through hell and high water (literally almost) and shine as loving, intelligent and wise individuals. What a total difference from the people I used to count as friends whilst a JW!!
I hope to have another apostafest next year...make it simple with pizza & beer & soda, have it in October...and then I'll be able to get a better grip on myself. I regret not being able to talk with people much and missed out on so many good conversations, stories and laughter. But I hold you all in my heart and will never forget that I truly do have FRIENDS who don't care if there's no electricity or running water or flush toilets.

i travelled alot recently and i passed through many major cities, and i saw the contrast between nice small quiet towns and huge cities with so much traffic.. so, where would you rather live, in a quiet small town where there isn't much to do,but where it's quiet and there is not much stress, or in a big city with lots of traffic jams, where life is more expensive, but where there is more to see?.
i like the smaller town life.
I love our small town (pop. approximately 24,000)...it's just big enough to have such amenities as a few good restaurants and movie theatres and shopping, and since we have a University in town...a lot of cultural activities going on.
Personally...I would love to live on the shore of Lake Superior without any neighbors within a few miles. Guess that really makes me a country person.

i am not trying to compete with fmz as he has a supernatural thread going already but - do you secretlyt wish for a demon attack - serious question - the reason i ask this is because - if i had a demon attack it would mean there was a satan the devil and if there was a satan it would mean there was god.
what i am trying to say in a nutshell is "a demon attack would actually strengthen my faith" where at the moment it is non-existent almost
I think I prefer staying ignorant.
