Are young people discouraged by policy to not participate in organized sports? I noticed this one young man at my wife's congo who said he has "skills"(basketball), yet the only ball he plays is pick up games with other boys his age from the congo. Any insights?

Elders influence on young people's aspirations
by kzjw injust found out 5 years ago my stepson was told by an elder that he shouldn't play b-ball because team sports in school was all about fight songs & such foolishness.
just sent another elder an email telling him it would be wise not to try and influence my remaining 2 sons with any of that bs!
it will not be pretty.. what gives these idi-elders the right to try and stop a young person with god given abilities to excell at anything the right to tell them without parental consent what to, and not to do?.

30% ? Daxm!!! And by the way, as I attend meetings on Sundays(not for long) the fact that they refer to me by only my last name without "brother" is in effect a term of disrespect?

Sheri from THE VIEW absent AGAIN as CULTS are hot topic...
by sf inseems this woman is always, and i mean always, absent from topics related to religious conflicts.. again, today, when cultic behavior [ lds raid in texas] is discussed as a hot topic, she's not there.. a few weeks ago, there was the topic of the child that died due to the parents thinking god would heal her.
sheri was not there.. it's really starting to piss me off.. there have also been ample opportunities for her to speak out about abuse that goes on in jw religion.
she never takes it.. yesterday she reveals that when she had an opportunity to look at princes credit info, she took it.. i'm about to fire off an email and ask point blank, why she keeps avoiding (by being absent) these topics.. anyone else notice this about her?.

Why do I cringe? Why am I still so bitter?
by oompa inmade my own personal statement by skipping the memorial, and then went to the next regular ol sunday meeting with my wife.
i tried hard not to pay attention, but still went nuts when the wt said things clearly not in the bible (which i don't even believe anymore!).
so why does this still bother me?

I feel your pain, even as an UBM...I did find some solice in reading "Captive of a Concept". It gave me peace in knowing that my wife is honestly believes that she is doing God's will by preaching. Like you, I just wish she knew that she's a victim of the WTBS. Most of my anger is directed at them. Try to remember as an elder, he's just doing what they say. I did battle with my wife's elder by email for week, and ultimately we came to an understanding that we're not that far apart, of course he's been the one assigned to bring me into the fold, but we honestly respect each other and I find that surprising(he is open to reading more than just WT pubs & the NWT) "Captives" may help put you in a frame of mind that will allow you to connect with your elder dad...Good luck!
