Lets list everything that has pagan origins!!
by song19 ini have a feeling i am going to have to explain to my jw folks why i have decided to allow my children to participate in holidays at school.
theyll probably be wondering too why i will get together with our non jw family for the holidays.. .
we know jws avoid holidays because of their pagan origins.

I have relatives that recently toured watchtower farm. (about a month ago) and they got "New" bibles. They did actually say it was the new version. I did notice that verses were actually on different page numbers than my 5 year old NWT, and something seemed a bit different (chapters were in a different place on the page than mine etc), but I did not get a chance to actually look at it. I just assumed the formatting or font size had been altered a little.

Can this person be disfellowshipped?
by tryingtounderstandjws ini saw this on youtube and don't understand how he can make the statement, "i don't follow the watch tower" but i am a jw.
if you are a jw, don't you follow what the watch tower says?

My dad told me once that even if he wasn't affiliated with the WTS anymore, he's still a Jehovah's Witness and would still preach and practice the way he's "supposed" to.

Did you return to celebrating holidays?
by song19 inwith this new light, i am starting to try and figure out what to do with my life and my time... now that the world is opened up for me to finally explore.. i have been wondering if i will return to celebrating the holidays with my 'worldly' relatives.
my parents, brother, and in-laws are all witnesses.
i have pretty much rejected the holidays say for 25 years.

YES!!! and it's just fun! I don't view any of the holidays as religios, just fun and tradition. It makes my granparents feel loved when I wish them a happy mothers/fathers day, christmas, etc... I've been celebrating for a year and it's been a blast. I don't really remember what the big deal was.. lol the reasons for abstaining just seem so weak to me now. ENJOY!

I personally don't agree with it, but I've been told it was so that Jehovah could clear his name. Satan wanted to prove that humans don't need Jehovah, so Jehovah decided to let humans try and fail so that he could step in at the last moment and save us before we completly destroy ourselves and the planet. Then nobody can ever challenge his authority ever again.

most random scripture citation EVER
by veradico indid you ever notice, particularly in unimportant filler articles, that sometimes the writers of the society's publications cited scriptures which had very little to do with the subject at hand?
i'm not talking about the misleading use of scriptures, that is, when they would perpetrate amazing feats of eisegesis.
i'm talking about when they cited scriptures just because they felt like the sentence needed to end with a citation.

ROFL, I don't think I'v ever caught any of those, mainly cause I didn't usually read the cited scriptures.... and preparing for the meeting was more like reading the question and skimming the paragraph for the answer. They're usually pretty easy to pick out.

Ever Since I Stopped Speaking to My Parents and Sister...
by cognac ini haven't needed to take my ptsd meds.. i've quit drinking altogether.. i stopped drinking coffee (just decaf).
i'm eating a lot healthier.
i just feel a lot more calm and so much happier its not even funny.... i know that i've had to stop taking my meds a lot because i haven't had to deal with them, not sure if the other things have anything to do with it or not... i just think it's a bit sad that i feel so much happier with them out of my life... i feel like i can grow as a person so much more.

Hi Cognac,
I'm glad you're doing better. This is actually something I'm going through now too, Parents aren't speaking to me. Even though it's only been a week (this time), they've gone for several months at a time without speaking to me before, mostly because of my not attending meetings. I've had the same experience, and while it's sad that I feel less stressed and worn out when I don't talk to them, I know that the relationship is toxic to me. Some people are just bad for us, even though we may love them. Just be you, and live a happy life. It's their loss and I hope they realize what they're missing out on and stop being so petty.
