When I lived near a lake, it was a 5-minute walk through dense, mosquito-infested woods to see the sunset over the water - so beautiful. I guess it wasn't exactly free, since I lost some blood; but it was so worth it.

Psychology
by billie jean inon a recent discussion about my poor depressed father to my mother (both witnesses) i suggested that he should see a counsellor or at least get some help as i was trying to get her to see how ill he's becoming 'mentally'.
her answer in a very dismissive tone to me was ,.
" oh no you don't we're not into that, youre not using any psychologist on us ".

billie jean, welcome to the board.
I'm sorry to hear about your father; depression is a terrible condition to be in long term. Usually friends and family don't understand and won't take the time to even read about it so as to have a clue how to help. Not only that, but their innuendo-laden comments make the depressed person slip farther down the hole.
He's probably not going to go talk with a counselor because (in his mind) he will either lose his relationship with Jehovah, or bring reproach on Jehovah's name, as others have said.
So I wonder, do you think it's possible that he might read a book about it? I mean from a person that's been through it and knows exactly how it feels? That way he could get helpful information and no one could ask any questions about his religion. In my experience, it is imperative that he find a person on this earth to truly validate his feelings. It would be a start.

Senior Citizens......How does your congregation treat them?
by crazyblondeb innot as good as they use too... but then again they are following the lead of the wts.
why bother with fellowship when you can plug everyone into the telephone.. one one hand they are pushing fs, on the other they are making so many changes that several of the elderly are getting depressed, especially ever since the may 1, 2007 qfr.
with the afternoon bs soon yanked, many not allowed to drive at night, and elderships that don't care enough to orchestrate carpools....it is bad..

Crazyblondeb, that sounds just like my old hall.
Some bigwigs would go out of town to fix other people's houses, but wouldn't go across town to help the faithful 90-year-old whose house was falling in. What a witness to all her neighbors. Too bad they will never get the point of Jesus' teachings.

When do folks who study with a JW generally start to tell thier friends?
by insearchoftruth inmy wife is again studying with a jw sister, and earlier this week the sister was telling her about how wonderful it is to witness for jehovah.
well since i have known my wife, she has never spoken positively about the jws to anyone.
when can i expect her to be told that she should be sharing this with others.

I waited as long as I could, because I knew my family and friends would treat me cruelly and give me the third degree. I needed to be as knowledgeable about the bible as possible first.
For me, it was the first holiday I decided not to take part in; you really have to tell then.

Captured a little snake for my Grandaughter to see...
by Gregor ina little garden snake approached me while in the garden this pm.
i gently picked it up and took it over to let my 3 yr old , miranda, see it.
she followed my lead that it was a beautiful creature and was captivated by it.

It's good to hear things like this. My grandkids freak out when they see a spider because their mother does; it doesn't seem to be changing even when I try to teach them that they are beneficial. I don't think snakes bother them though.
I know people who will almost have a wreck when they see a snake crossing the road, because they have just got to run over it.

What teaching did you find unacceptable that made you question the WTS?
by RULES & REGULATIONS inthe selection of the society in 1919 as the faithful and discreet slave after jesus spent nearly 5 years observing them.
jesus must have had some good lsd.

That's sad, R & R.
There was a really old disfellowshipped woman in our congregation that died; the funeral was all hush-hush - I don't think there was even any kind of service. Her crime? Smoking.
She was just something to be swept under the rug - I felt so sorry for her husband. A mild-mannered person gets the boot for smoking while a horse's patoot who has caused irreparable harm to 80 percent of a congregation remains in good standing with all privileges intact.
That's one of the first things I remember feeling strong enough about to voice my concerns.

Another non biblical practice by Jehovah's witnesses
by excito-are inmatthew 10.8 speaks about the preaching work and states " you received free, give free".
the society no longer charges for the magazines, but should witnesses still accept contributions from householders?
does this not conflict with the bible?

Giving free not only means you are not charged money; it means you don't owe the giver a thing.
Some study conductors feel like they should get a free pass when they want to treat you badly.
If you have any problem with them, it can never be worked out, because the issue will be sidestepped, and you will be labeled "ungrateful" for all they've done for you.
1 Cor. 6:9-10 What! Do you not know that unrighteous persons will not inherit God's kingdom? Do not be misled...................nor extortioners will inherit God's kingdom.
Not many publishers would truly give free - if not for the gold stars (hours they report), most would not be at your house.

Things you are now embarrassed you disclosed on jwd
by rebel8 inwhat are some things you posted here that you are now embarrassed about?
here's a classic.
it totally brought down a funny thread, and totally embarrassed me because others' reactions made me realize how dysfunctional my childhood was.

I guess those horny Bethelites would have been stumbled to see a pimply, hairy, sweaty girl wearing four size 6x undershirts, a flannel shirt, Dr. Pepper lip gloss, and thick maxi pads that rustled when she walked.
lol!!!! Too funny!!!
