I don't know why they say "the friends" because I sure never had any friends there.

The "Friends"
by El Kabong inok, i've been out of the <ahem> "truth" for some time now.
but, someone asked me a question the other day that i really don't know or remember the answer to.
why do jw's refer to each other as "the friends".

No hope for shy ones?
by dsgal ini knew a very nice person who was also very shy.she would sweat bullets just thinking about joining the tms or commenting at meetings.yet she was the sweetest person at the kh.she confided to someone she thought she could trust and was told she didn't have jehovah's spirit if she couldn't do these things that were required of her.also that she might not make it into the new world because romans 10;10 says clearly "public declaration by mouth means your salvation".i don't get it.god doesn't love shy people?but he created shy animals!
needless to say, this woman does not attend meetings anymore because she thinks there is no hope for her anyway.funny,i have never heard anyone in another religion say you were doomed because of shyness.

Ferocious large waves pics battering Porthleven
by Celtic inthese are some pictures from a particularly bad storm we had that raged at hurricane strength for 20 hours or so.
shows you the enormous potential for damage from the waves.
pictured is the village of porthleven within mounts bay in the far west of the county of cornwall uk, the waves were measured at over 95' high coming in at over 40mph.. during the storm i was stood in the clocktower doorway as the waves swept over the top of the building within which there is a snooker table full size with a couple of guys playing peacefully away as if nothing was happening on the outside.. .

Are you good enoughto attend?
by eyeslice inare you good enough to attend an international 2003 district conventions?.
other threads have brought up the subject of the planned 2003 district conventions ( http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/forum/thread.asp?id=34494&site=3 ), but do you qualify to attend a convention in another land?.
according to the official letter, no one is to make private travel arrangements but must go through the official channels.

1975---- DID IT REALLY BOTHER YOU?
by minimus inon the net you see many talk about 1975 and how it affected so many.
obviously, some left the organization when nothing happened in 1975. were you personally affected by 1975?
has the fixing of dates been a major reason for your disappointment with the witnesses?

I had married an unbeliever when 1975 rolled around and was not attending meetings.Let me tell you, I got scared every time there was a thunderstorm.I was glad when that year passed.Sounds silly, huh?

Is Goal Setting Good Or Bad?
by larc inis goal setting good or bad?
sounds like the title of an awake!
goal setting can be very good in that it gives direction, purpose and accomplishment in a person's life.

My mother and I were discussing this very topic just today. We were mostly ignored by the witnesses when my dad died .If you weren't in the clique no one cared if you had a death in the family and needed them to show some kindness. My brother's church was right there at the funeral home paying respects and taking food to his house. We were actually ashamed of the way the jws avoided us and we had to try to explain it to relatives who asked where they all were.It was actually embarrassing. My dad was not baptized but my mother and I were. This is a hurt we still haven't gotten over after 12 years.I tried to go back once but was treated even more coldly the second time. They study about love but it takes a backseat to getting in your time, preparing meeting parts and so on.I imagine the WTBS gets a lot of complaints about this sort of thing or they wouldn't have had to come out with the brochure "when someone you love dies".It seems to me it's only human nature to show kindness at a time like that, but they lose all humanness after a while.

Reporting Time
by dsgal in.
i read on another post that something new was started at the last elder's meeting about "turning in time" or "getting time in".anybody know what it is?

dsgal
This is their way of keeping up with ones that may be falling away.If you haven't turned in time for a while, they can see it and maybe warn others you may be "bad association".

Affection
by restorebeauty ini have dated a non-active (from birth) jw off and on for the past 3 years and i have noticed that he is not very affectionate at all.
i'm wondering was it part of the upbringing?
could it be that since the relationships were shallow this never was an issue.. has anyone else experienced this.. very curious

restorebeauty,
If he was raised in a jw household, then I would say yes,it is a result of his upbringing,

Hi,
This lack of affection among jw's was one of the reasons I left .I got tired of hearing about the "love" the witnesses have and yet everybody there is uptight and aloof.Certain ones are left out of social events if they're not in the "clique".If that is "agape" love then leave me out.I wouldn't want to live in a world full of cold people anyway.
P.S.,
Has your friend been counseled for seeing a "worldly" person? This could also account for the coldness.
