Apognophos, to what are you referring when you say, "After all, 1919 is a concrete date where something actually happened with respect to the Witness organization . . ."?

“The bed is too short to stretch out on, the blanket too narrow to wrap around you.” (Isaiah 28:20 NIV)
In Chapter 10 of Crisis of Conscience, Raymond Franz cited the above passage as a subheading to that chapter. He applied it to the Watch Tower Society’s manipulating Scripture to fit its theology, and the uncomfortable position in which it places itself by doing so. A secular quote that describes the same situation is Sir Walter Scott’s:
“ Oh what a tangled web we weave,
When first we practise to deceive!”In the late 1800s, when the Watch Tower Society began marketing the parable of “the faithful and discreet slave” (the “Slave”) as a prophecy, an interpretation had to be devised that would: (1) be prophetic; and (2) point to the prophecy’s fulfillment within the Watch Tower community.
The identity of the “Slave” has been revised from time to time as the leadership of the Watch Tower community has changed. The most recent revision is quite a departure from the last revision.
Formerly, it was published that since the master’s leaving in 33 CE, there has always been a remnant of anointed Christians to act as the “Slave” in caring for the master’s household during his absence. The revised identity of the “Slave” as a small group of anointed brothers at Watch Tower world headquarters, working together as a governing body, from 1919 CE to the present, leaves the master’s household uncared-for in the centuries between 33 CE and 1919 CE. By design, this revised interpretation bolsters the exclusivity and importance of today’s leadership in the Watch Tower community.
While this most recent revision may not seem problematic so long as the rank and file accept it, it creates a potentially larger problem: it is now easier to trace how the leadership has distorted Jesus’ parable to establish, define and maintain its authority.
It can only be speculated as to what further revisions may be needed going forward, but no matter what is devised, the bed will still be too short, the blanket too narrow and the web more tangled.

It is OFFICIAL they want MORE MONEY : NEW ANNOUNCEMENT!!!
by raymond frantz ini just came back from the meeting .although the local announcements have been abolished recently as an item for the second part , an elder came on the platform to announce that the society needs more money and there is a letter on the noticeboard for all the congragation to read to this effect.
although the announcement was read half heartedly (this elder's daughter is an apostate ,it looks like he knows what's going on) the implictions are dramatic .
the society in brief, requests any brother or sister with funds sitting on personal accounts to loan them to the society ,he didn't go into any specifics but i will take a picture of the letter next time and make it available here .. i'm not amazed that they're asking for money ,i thought it will happen sooner or later .what i'm amazed is that 99% of the congragation are oblivious to the financial crisis that the society finds itself these days and the reasons why .i can see the future now .the watchtower will be the fist part of the babylon the great to go down in a blaze of scandals and financial troubles !.

Athough my experience is limited having attended only two congregations, my impression is that very few congregations have three months operating expenses on hand let alone a surplus amount that they can forward to headquarters. In the congregations I attended, operating expenses were pretty much month-to-month.

I posted this at work and for some reason I can only get the subject line to post. Knowing that, I simply laid out the briefing schedule in the subject line so that you will know when to check the Alameda Superior Court website. Usually the briefs post the day after they are due.

New Governing Body Member: Hugo Riemer - More WT Revisionist History
by 00DAD inas part of the wt's recent push to get the r&f "to study and recount the history of the earthly part of jehovahs organization" there is a curious article in the from our archives featurette of the august 15th, 2012 watchtower.
it offers a highly sanitized version of early jw history.
but what is particularly strange is this revisionist history re-categorizing of an early bible student/jw, one hugo riemer.

In answer to Free @ Last, Hayden Covington never professed to be of the anointed, yet he served as a director (Vice President) of the WTS during the time when the Governing Body was said to be associated with the directors of the Society. As well, this is the mishegoss that allows Hugo Riemer to be viewed as a member of the Governing Body.

We saw "The Book of Mormon" yesterday in Los Angeles. It was brilliant. The creators of South Park, Trey Parker and Matt Stone came through, as they always do, with great satircal comedy and social commentary. It could just as easily have been about JWs. All you'd have to do is adjust a few scenes and some lyrics. On the larger scale it demonstrates the way religions start out with a good idea that fills people's needs but then become more legalistic and controlling so that people rebel and start their own religion a la Martin Luther, Joseph Smith, C.T. Russell . . . It was certainly deserving of every Tony it won. Like Band on the Run, I'm not a huge Broadway fan, but I loved this one!
