Memorial of the Death of Jesus 2016

that day is not for nissan 14th of the jewish calendar, or am i wrong ?

The formula JWs adhere to for determining Nisan 14 is that the new moon closest to the spring equinox as seen from Jerusalem is determined to be Nisan 1. 14 days later is Nisan 14. They are consistent in holding to his formula regardless of the Jewish calendar, or when Good Friday, or Easter are observed.

I can only guess that they put themselves in the position of someone who attended the Last Supper in 33 CE and do the math from there. I think they are less concerned about accuracy than they are stubborn about consistency with their own tradition.

jw seek treatment for mental breakdown.. he tells the physician, my non-jw family tell me i'm nuts because i preach we are the only true religion (jws).. the doctor said that is strange because i have two patients that checked in yesterday and they .

each said they belong to the only true religions.

one is a mormon and the other a muslim.. so the doctor thought i will lock all three up in the same room for the night and see what.

This week's resurrection video, will it backfire on the wt?

--well, this week's showing at the hall was the opposite, it was about death with violins playing in the background.

a recently bereaved member, , full of tears, (like many others) could not contain herself.

Any video produced by Watchtower cannot portray the subtleties and complexities of life (or death) because the religion is inconsiderate of these things. Good to hear that Watchtower has taken another shot at its own foot.

Watched the first two episodes last night; well done, well acted. Although I believe the practices and beliefs of JWs figured into the research for this show, I wonder if Witnesses will ever be mentioned by name. JWs are not as recognizable regarding their practices and beliefs as Scientology and Jews for Jesus, cults that were mentioned by name. It's ironic that despite well over a century of urgent preaching by a comparatively larger membership, most people have no idea what the JW message is.

I can't help but wonder if many Witnesses subscribe to Hulu. Typically, Witnesses are not aware of or interested in spending money on new entertainment platforms. And I can't help but wonder if Witnesses are mentioned by name whether the show would help any wake up. No doubt the show will be of greater benefit to those who are already questioning their Witness practices and beliefs.

"Ones"

(i never was a dub).. this is something which has intrigued me for a while.

i don't know whether it's dub-speak, or us-speak.. it's the use of the word 'ones' as in 'interested ones', 'worldly ones', 'disfellowshipped ones' and so on and so on.. in the 'normal world' we would probably use the word 'people'.. thoughts?.

I had been thinking of staring a thread on the same subject. I was a Witness for 56 years and I reside in the U.S., so a different perspective than yours; however, your take is exactly the same as mine. Whereas words like "person" or "individual" focus on the person being spoken of, "ones" always struck me as focusing on the collective of which that "one" is a part. The same is true of Brother or Sister so-and-so. Again, the focus is on the collective within which the person has a brother-like or sister-like relationship with other members of the group.

I believe, even though subtle, this language is calculated to draw attention away from the person and any uniqueness or independence that person may possess. The organization takes center stage.

A great suggestion from a current Bethelite on the chopping block

a very close friend of mine has gotten his letter.

although he was planning to leave willingly, he told me that he can't help but feel a sense of being stabbed in the back by a bunch of self righteous traitors.

he gave tours for years, always telling the visitors "this is the best way of life, i would never change anything here and i'll never regret making this decision to come here.

. . . so there's this guy who makes luggage out of foreskins. A potential customer asks him, "why foreskins?" He answers, "Watch this." He pulls out a small, shriveled wallet. He rubs it a few times and all of a sudden he has a garment bag!

Fun fact: If anyone calls you a schmuck, you are being called a discarded foreskin (Yiddish to English).
