The wife has just opened a pandoras box (you tube)!
by evergreen ini was browsing the net yesterday and was looking up some you tube clips on jehovahs witnesses.
the wife then asks if she could use the net to check out something.
little did i realise she was checking my history trail (we're a trusting couple!

I really wish that my wife would stumble upon sites like this or even some of the more intelligent anti-JW youtube videos like WTComments.
Regarding reverse psychology, that is the only thing that works with JWs.

Bethelite: Elder burnout, R&F disillusionment led to book study change
by pseattle2 inplease visit the blog: http://governingbodyletters.blogspot.com/2008/05/bethelites-viewpoint-on-recent.html.
a bethelite's viewpoint on the recent organization changesto me the most obvious reason has nothing to do with control, or money.
it has everything to do with the serious shortage of qualified brothers who can (or who are willing to) be used.

I agree with this assessment. The congregation that I left recently was a perfect example of not having enough capable elders and ministerial servants. The elders were worked to death with all of the theocratic assignments they were given because there were too few of them to handle them sufficiently. It was so bad that some of the elders would admit to not studying or preparing and needing the help of the congregation. It was better than just making a fool of themselves.
That same congregation recently had one elder run off with another woman (leaving his family flapping in the wind), another stepped down to take care of his sickly wife, and another left for unknown reasons. There might be four elders there, five maximum. The congregation has about 160 publishers or so. They can't find people to fill the slots. They asked one of the servants and he refused. He didn't want the hassle.
If similar things are happening elsewhere, the WBTS is in trouble. The kids aren't staying in the Organization so they can't use them as a draft pool.

What's Your MAIN Reason For Not Believing In "The Truth"?
by minimus inmy mother had this discussion yesterday.
basically, my main argument was that if the fds gets jehovah's holy spirit and their "food" is "the truth", yet they always are correcting themselves, how can anyone in all fairness believe it's "the truth"??
you can't show scripturally why organ transplants are a form of cannibalism and clearly a disfellowshipping offense and a couple of years later after possible disfellowshippings or death, and then believe jehovah god changed his view suddenly.

What started me down the path was me actually reading a Bible. Not the JW Bible, but other Bibles. I downloaded a Bible program called eSword which basically is a program that contains many, many versions and translations of the Bible. I started researching and comparing different Bibles to the JW's own translation. Some of the JW changes are not justified. They're just put in to go along with their doctrine. They are subtle changes, however.
Beyond that, though, I continued to read the Bible. The more I read it, the less it made sense. No God had a hand in writing it. It was men trying to promote their own ideals and their own concepts. The Yahweh deity was the war god of the Israelites. They had battles to fight and people to keep in line. You can't keep people in line with a fluffy poodle god as in the New Testament. You must have a fire and brimstone god to motivate (and by motivate I mean frighten) people into action.
It occurred to me later that the Holy Bible really wasn't any different than most other religious texts. It's the most popular and certainly the most lengthy. But I don't believe that a god personally inspired its writing any more than I believe that there are flying unicorns in my back yard.
Does that automatically make me an atheist? Not necessarily, but I do lean heavily towards that way. Right now I am pretty much content with the idea that I don't know the answers to some things and I never will. Can I function without knowing whether the Universe was created by what seems to be an impossible explosion or an impossible god? I think so.

Is the GB crooked or just misguided?
by easyreader1970 ini ask myself this from time to time.
is the governing body operating seriously out of the belief that they are god's only channel to mankind?
or are they deliberately scamming people?

I ask myself this from time to time. Is the Governing Body operating seriously out of the belief that they are God's only channel to mankind? Or are they deliberately scamming people?
I tell you, most of the time I am just not sure. Sometimes I think they are honest men who believe that what they are doing is right, even though it is negatively impacting the lives of millions of people. "In the end" everything will all be straightened out so they just go on giving forth laws from their Hall of Justice in Brooklyn.
At other times some of the information they put out and some of the things that they ask their members to do seem so unrealistic that the requirements feel almost criminal.
I read Franz's book. He seemed to feel that they were believers but so self-important and pig-headed that they didn't really look out for the little man. It was all about control.
Just about every Study Edition of the Watchtower these days has at least a paragraph if not an entire article on being obedient. If the information doesn't make sense, be obedient. If the elders in your congregation are total retards, be obedient. Control, control, control.
What are they up to, really?

Myspace is bad
by JimmyPage insomeone told my wife that the myspace site is bad.
they said it will be brought out more in the upcoming assemblies.
a lot of dubs have gotten themselves in trouble on the site.
-
easyreader1970
At our last circuit assembly they made a public denouncement against community sites like myspace. They say that the association is bad. Also they say that people that are on the site that say they are Witnesses may not really be Witnesses. They may be sexual predators.

Besides weddings and anniversaries, do JW's celebrate life?
by truthseeker intoday is mother's day, but not for the 7,000,000 jehovah's witnesses out there.. next month is father's day but not for the 7,000,000 jehovah's witnesses out there.. the first monday in september is labor day in the u.s. but 7,000,000 jehovah's witnesses would rather labour in the preaching work.. november 25 is thanksgiving day but 7,000,000 jehovah's witnesses would rather do return visits and bother people who are giving thanks to god.. christ's memorial happens once a year (or week) for many christian denominations, but 6,991,000 jehovah's witnesses would rather observe a meal in progress instead of eat it.. every day someone has a birthday but 7,000,000 jehovah's witnesses would rather ignore their birthday and so something else.. all year round people celebrate and attend college graduations but millions of jehovah's witnesses would only attend a high-school graduation.. .
what exactly do jehovah's witnesses celebrate if anything?
they have no zest for life, few hobbies and outside interests.. a wt article a few years ago encouraged people to put their hobbies aside to simplify their life for kingdom pursuits.. jehovah's witnesses in my opinion, do not celebrate life.

I agree. They discourage "time-consuming" hobbies and pursuits. This system is "lying in the power of the wicked one" and is soon(?) to be done away with. What present thing could there be worth striving for? There are no worthwhile goals here. This is what they teach and many of their subjects fall for it.
I am glad to see that not all Witnesses fall for this, though. There are plenty that I know that will try to live this life to the full the best that they can, ignoring much of what the WBTS says about enjoying the present.

Several million people can't be wrong, can they?
by easyreader1970 inthat was the question that i asked myself for many years when i struggled to believe the deceptive texts flowing forth from the watchtower.
sure, this doesn't make any damn sense to me but apparently it does to six million other people.
they can't all be wrong, can they?

That was the question that I asked myself for many years when I struggled to believe the deceptive texts flowing forth from the Watchtower.
Sure, this doesn't make any damn sense to me but apparently it does to six million other people. They can't all be wrong, can they? Especially when I went to District Conventions I had my fears and doubts temporarily satisfied. I'd be in a coliseum full of five thousand other believers. Certainly we all have it right! I just need to adjust my thinking!
But I just wasn't able to make a complete mind break. I wanted to be part of that. And, of course, I was plagued with the "what if they're right?" question. That's one that ties up alot of people. I have a sister-in-law now that keeps going out and coming back in. She'll leave, wonder if the JWs are right, come back for a while, leave, and so on.
I have reached a point now where I can see through everything. Not with just the JWs (who tell you that all OTHER religions are frauds) but with everybody.

what movies do you recomend
by heathen ini'm always interested in seeing a good movie , anything out there that really rocked your world , please share.....
-
easyreader1970
A couple of recommendations:
Children of Men - with Clive Owen, Michael Caine, and Julianne Moore. I love dystopian movies and this might be the best one I've seen. It's a very realistic romp into a world where mankind has lost the ability to reproduce.
Kingdom of Heaven - with Orlando Bloom and Liam Neeson. It's about a young blacksmith who's suddenly tasked with protecting Jerusalem from the invading Muslims. I think it takes places in the late 12th century.
