  A friend of mine just expressed her opinion "that even if there is a god or gods, then any attention from earthlings probably wouldn't mean that much to them." I still believe that there's a Creator but if he wanted attention from us, then shouldn't it be easier to figure out?

  My faith in God has been shaken (just in the past few months) but at the same time I'm sort of enjoying the possibilities for the first time. I feel less pressure and am getting comfortable with the fact that I don't have all the answers. At the door, we were expected to anticipate the next question and have our biblical response. It's nice to not be the authority of the proper way to God for once.

  book recommendations?

  it appears that the moonies and other cults use similar lingo to the jw's like truth and worldly people, etc.

  and shunning, recruiting new ones and many other concepts are comparable.

  Has anyone read Seductive Poison: A Jonestown Survivor's Story of Life and Death in the Peoples Temple by Deborah Layton? Amazon has a feature which I never tried before - it lets you seach the book for certain words. "Truth" and "worldly" both were used and had excerpts shown. I'll probably order it soon and let ya know what I think of it.

  "let him who is without sin cast the first stone.".

  the above statement by jesus was directed at a throng of men about to stone a prostitute in accordance with the law of moses.. jesus did not say the law of moses was wrong or that the men should not carry out the judgement against the prostitute.. jesus did single out a qualifying eligibility which stopped the execution by an appeal to conscience.

  "let him who is without sin....".

  Wow, Terry. I like your analogy of a doctor sending a sick person out of the hospital to fend for themselves. I may just use that with the family.

It appears that the Moonies and other cults use similar lingo to the JW's like Truth and worldly people, etc. And shunning, recruiting new ones and many other concepts are comparable. This was news to me. I'd love to stick Hassan's book in some of our friends hands so that they could see the similarities but I don't reeeally think it'd be received too well. I was wondering if anyone had recommendations of nonfiction accounts of people that came out of other cults. I'm looking for instances where they do sound similar to the Dubs and hopefully use some of the lingo in it. It's hard to tell by browsing on Amazon what might be an accurate, entertaining, yet thought provoking read. I thought maybe I could innocently suggest it to some friends and then let them make their own deductions.

  It's good to know everyone goes thru the same feelings. Things look so blatantly wrong now that I can't believe I didn't notice it before, but then again - I wasn't really paying attention like I should of been. I think Witnesses just get lazy and rely on the WTS to get things right. You see 607/1914 repeated so often that you accept it as established fact! Why did I try to memorize the flipping supporting scriptures and math to get to 1914???? Now it seems so ridiculous to me. I've been avidly reading all sorts of material (Bibles, WT mags and books (new and old), exwitness books, cult books, etc.) I wind up with more questions and issues than answers. And so much anger that it makes me weary. It's also difficult to walk away from friends that have become your family over years and years. I still love them and don't want them to find out I have apostate thoughts.

  Hi. I've been peeking in on this site for a couple weeks. My hubby says I have some anger issues to work out so maybe some interaction would be healthy for me. I'm finding it sooo hard to keep my mouth shut around our friends. We are still casually attending meetings. I've only recently been learning a bit of the "real truth" so I fluctuate between anger, denial, incredibility, disgust and so many other feelings. Any hints on how to pick up the pieces? Everything feels so foreign - like the concept of making new friends outside the congregation.
