Do you think the guys in the Governing Body belive in the Governing Body?

i presume they do.

they are probably so intoxicated by their own power that they belive in the never ending rubbish.. or am i wrong?

is there other reasons to stay on the top of the hill?.

I think each GB member only sees a portion of things going on in the Society, so any imperfections or issues that aren't being taken care of, they probably have the same thinking as the rest of the JW's - that is - God will take care of things in His time. I'm doubting that even a fraction of them are knowledgeable of the WT's history, Biblical discrepancies/errors, or misquoting sources in the articles. Do you think any of those men ever go near a computer or internet?

I don't know how they can believe they are guided by holy spirit and I wonder how they can change "understandings" and not have doubts themselves when it's apparent that they are only making guesses, reverting to old understandings, or inputting personal opinions. It seems ludicrous. But if it's the only thing you know, then it's amazing at what you can get accustomed to. I was basically raised in so I'm still shaking my head in bewilderment at how I accepted things for so long without knowing any better.

i was out with some jw friends.

one elder, 3 ministerial servants, and lowly fading inactive publisher missinglink in a car looking for something fun to do.

we saw someone paragliding off a mountain.

Do JWs really believe the end is near?

or do they merely pay lip service to the idea?

i have no doubt that some of them sincerely believe.

but when i was a kid, growing up in the '80s, i didn't know of a single witness, myself included, who didn't believe the end was close.

In the 80's, I knew plenty of sisters that didn't marry, didn't buy houses, didn't have children. But I don't see it hardly at all in the area that I am now. Does anyone know of ones that are putting their lives on hold for the new system? I don't think you'd find many. My mom reminded me last week that "I better make sure I'm on the Ark because the new system is so close. It could be tomorrow or in 50 years, but it's sooo close." It sounded so desperate and pathetic when she said it that I still am not sure what I made of her tone. Maybe it was just because she's upset at my own attitude and inactivity or maybe she has her own worries and doubts. Don't know. I wasn't supposed to grow old and die and I'm sure all the ones raised/born in have that in the backs of their minds. Once they made the change from the 1914 generation, I sort of got sick of hearing the last days rubbish.

Did God really warn mankind before the Flood of Noah?

jw's think they are doing a work just like noah did before the flood.

they say that noah's witness lasted for 40 years.

other than a few traders who moved around, i doubt that most tribal people would be able to safely travel to see noah's work in progress.

Fresia, you've been relying on the WT too much. The scriptures say that God decided to destroy all mankind except Noah. Read Gen. 6:

5

Consequently Jehovah saw that the badness of man was abundant in the earth and every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only bad all the time. 6 And Jehovah felt regrets that he had made men in the earth, and he felt hurt at his heart. 7 So Jehovah said: "I am going to wipe men whom I have created off the surface of the ground, from man to domestic animal, to moving animal and to flying creature of the heavens, because I do regret that I have made them." 8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of Jehovah.

According to the account, God had already decided to destroy everyone and only made provision for Noah and his family.

I've only just recently learned that other translations of Matt. 24:37-39 read differently than the NWT. Check out www.biblegateway.com and see how other translations read. It say that they were unaware, they didn't know, they didn't understand....

Even the Society's own purple Kingdom Interlinear says that "they knew not" in the direct Greek translation, so the WT's stance that Noah was actively preaching and warning people doesn't make sense if the majority were unaware or didn't know.

Just check out other threads on the subject of Noah and you'll rethink the whole scenario.

New Name For Watchtower?

ok everyone, just some fun here - no i haven't got wind of any change in the pipeline but, if the watchtower bible and tract society were to ditch the name watchtower altogether, what would they call the watchtower magazine instead?

all suggestions warmly welcomed......

I think they'd probably have to highlight the heavenly class a bit more - since they like to do that anyway:

The Lamp of the Anointed .....(Getting Brighter with each Generation)

New Understandings .....(Highlighting Jehovah's Kingdom and the 144,000 rules that we made up)

ha, ha. Well, we know they got lots of man-made rules so I thought I'd get the 144,000 in their sort of subliminally).

I'm amazed at the different opinions among active JW's. There obviously isn't unity in how they perceive Noah's day. My mom just told me last week that the people weren't all bad in Noah's day. I disagreed and reminded her that the scriptures brought out that their thoughts were bad all of the time and God felt regrets over having made man. Would he have had regrets if just some of them were bad? I think the WT pushes the scenario that they were going about their normal lives and just didn't heed Noah's warning. But the scriptures state that he had already decided to wipe man off the earth and preserve Noah and his family, so what would be the point of warning them if they were already condemned?

watchtower policies clearly make women second-class citizens.

i don't see it changing anytime soon.

this thread is not about how ridiculous it is that a female is not allowed to hand out mags, territory, books or carry a microphone if a qualified male is present.

I'm very delighted that as a sister I'd never, ever have to say a prayer for everyone. That seems like such a difficult and embarassing task. I know it must take practice to get the right balance of showing thankfulness, asking forgiveness, mentioning relevent events or difficulties, etc. And when the prayer didn't flow well or someone paused for an embarrassing length, I said my own little prayer of thankfulness that it wasn't me at that podium!
