The little girl in the picture did use the right body language. I think if a child who was unable to read could, possibly, look at the picture and have an idea of what she could do.

Education is the Key to Everything
by OnTheWayOut ineducation (not necesarily structured classroom and not necessarily college) is really the key to everything.\.
skyrocketing birthrates go down when the women get educated about birth control and disease.
even where such education is freely available, birthrates go down further when the women go to college and wait to have babies.

When I was a teen I used to watch the typical shows of the era, 77 Sunset Strip, Twilight Zone, Roaring 20's, and others. At the end of the shows I always watched the credits, there were only men's names except for hair dressers. I could do hair, no problem, I just didn't want to. BTW I'm 62. I figured my life, as far as making any kind of mark was concerned was nil. I also did not have a family environment that nurtured any kind of success. I was provided with a roof and food but I was not nurtured to reach for anything. I really can't think of any nudge or encouragement from my parents to strive for anything. There was a measure of love even though alcoholism and mental problems were part of my parents cumulative problems. Thank god I was not physically abused, I certainly could have been a candidate for worse than what I put up with. I guess what I mean to say is if only I had an education I could have been a contender.
If nothing else, just tell your kids how fantastic they are. They will believe it and run with it.

I saw a video of you once awhile back. I loved how you came across. I would never have considered you "mouthy", just honest. Not that there is anything wrong with mouthy. I love that too. How cool to have you on this forum.

Worked for me.
Seems like this would be a great book for any young person who for whatever reason didn't get all the education that they needed.

When I was a poor little Catholic girl living with troubled parents who wanted to try (actually they just drank too much), we had Easter baskets that my mother saved every year in the attic and brought out to refill with candy every Easter. She wrapped them with colored celophane and a ribbon and she hid them. I remember one year mine was in the dryer. It was really special.

Were You In A Constant State Of Worry As A Witness?
by minimus inlooking back, did you find yourself always worried about what was going to happen to you if you made a mistake or you even exercised your own "bible trained conscience"?.

I would say my first 10 years in I was worried. But at some point my predominant feeling was guilt. I wasn't worthy no matter what. At one point my husband found a "bible study" for me. He thought this would be an easy way to witness. OMG! Bible Studies terrified me because I had to be an example. This caused me to get more "spiritual" with studying the WT crap articles and such which was so hard for me, I could barely figure everything out. Anyway, cut to the chase, I finally decided that to be "whole souled" as they word it, I decided that whatever I could do was what I could do. Jehovah would know it was all I could do with sincerity and surely he would accept my honest effort. So in my last few years in the cult this was my attitude and it served me well. I was so sick of being guilty!

Pre-emptive shunning - a growing reality
by cedars ini'm scanning through some of the results from the 2012 jw survey as they're coming in.. the most populous of the six voting categories with 76 voters so far is my own category, for those who are inactive, or "faded/fading" (not disfellowshipped or da'd, but no longer reporting time on the ministry).. one statistic already leaping out at me surrounds the question "do you experience 'pre-emptive shunning' from active witnesses, who view you as 'bad association'?
" of the 74 who voted on this so far, 76% have answered "yes" to this question.. it's early days, and obviously i will have a clearer picture of the extent of the problem once the survey closes at the end of the year.
however, the results already in suggest that pre-emptive shunning is widespread among inactive ones, despite this not being an "official" policy of the society.. i was interested in your opinions as to why this may be?

I'm a fader for 3 years now. Used to be well respected (as they say). I posted this on a thread about a month ago. This occurance of shunning pops into my head from time to time:
The other day ran into a sister in Hancock fabric. I was looking for pine cones to decorate my porch and I figured that would be innocent enough (also gathered some twigs with red seeds - porch looks cute). So right above the cones were some christmas wreaths and the display was fairly close to the door and probably feeling that "could someone be watching me?", I glanced at the door to see who walked in. It was this not born in sister, very classy and a retired teacher. We used to enjoy each others company and spoke freely to each other. I impulsively smiled and said "Hi". She was startled and quickly assessed how to respond and very awkwardly lifted her hand a few degrees and with a slight point of her finger she simultaneously opened her mouth did not smile or utter anything and walked in the other direction. Several feelings came over me in the next 5 minutes. I gathered up my bags of pine cones and had to wait at the register for quite awhile because they were busy. I looked around the store and saw her walking and staying in the perimeter of the store. In the end I just felt sorry for her and she probably feels the same. Who cares. I heard there is a lot of apostate phobia going on. We are well known in the community, so we don't think the elders would touch us. But the word seems to be out. WWI
