I had the opportunity to meet this young lady a few years ago with the family at the Tahoe Apostafest. This young daugter impressed me then too. She is a lovely person, inside and out. She showed me some of her artwork which was very impressive.

a bit about myself.. i was born in 1970 into the wonderful happy organisation (lol) and had a unremarkable childhood or so i thought (apart from being abused by an ms), all i can remember is being terrified of dying at armageddon.
attending 5 meetings a week and being used to preach as people wont shout at a child, studying the literature, not being able to watch popular tv shows, no xmas, birthdays the usual shit.. fast forward to age 16 and i fell in love with a worldly girl (the horror) and got her pregnant, my parents were devasted talking all the time how people in the borg would view them, nothing about what i was going thru, 16 and becoming a father, quite a big thing to me.

when i got home today from work my wife showed me a 5 page letter from our oldest son.
he basically said he does not what anything to do with us because of all the wrong things we did as parents to him and his brother.
he blames us for not being there for him and we are toxic parents.

This thread has been validating for me because our raised in son (since he was 5) and my husband and I are experiencing the same thing. I think there has been really good advice here and we have been applying much of it. Our son did do some venting but not nearly as bad as the letter you received. I knew he needed to do that. We are giving them space. His wife too, I feel, has much control, along with her family. However, she's not really a hostile person and we are hoping for the best. It's going okay, the worst is over.
I hope Totally that things turn around for you too. Give it time. There is some truth too to what the Arabian said.
this might be an unfair question for those who have been out of the organization for decades, but i'm wondering if any of you remember your earliest doubt -- maybe something odd that occurred to you as a kid (if you were a jw then).

When the couple knocked on the door back in '76 the husband did all the talking while his wife gazed at nothing in particular. I thought that was a red flag. I even asked if she could talk.

so my good ol soon to be ex father in law told me a few years ago (before i had told him of my horrible apostate ideas) about a "client" of his.
my fil used to be involved in the insurance/finance industries.
he had a lady client that was about 20 years older than him.

hi everyone.. i'm guessing you get this a lot, but i have to ask anyway.. first some context.. i'm 25, i was raised in the "truth" but i never got baptized, i haven't been in a kingdom's hall in 6 years, i live with my parents and we have a good relationship.. my dad doesn't have jw relatives, my mom has a few though and both have wordly friends.. so, should i try it?

Would it be possible to get one of their worldy friends to pose some thoughts or questions. You could prompt them on what to say. Make sure they know it's not to be a controversial querry but more like a curiosity. Perhaps a hypothetical situation could be posed like maybe they know someone who couldn't celebrate their childs birthday but they could celebrate anniversary's. They could then ask isn't a birthday an "anniversary" of one's birth?
Maybe if the dissonance came from someone other than you, they would open up more.

my dad only does it because he's an elder but last night even he was acting like he didnt want to do it.
