What do you think....can they???
by Heartbreaker incan the elders disfellowship a person for using their own literature and scriptures in a way that makes them look bad to discipline a person?
i am getting ready to send an email to my torn and tortured sister who is df'd regarding the practice of it, how the wtbts adopted it, and scriptural reasoning that show its a harmful practice at best.
she is still convinced that she should try to be reinstated, and i am partially afraid she could print it and show it to the brothers.

A Smurf walked out of the Kingdom Hall
by Joshnaz inwhen i was a kid, i'm guessing 5 or 6 years old.
the "smurfs are demonized" rumors started spreading around.
after a few weeks of hearing that and having to throw away all my smurf toys, i was at the kingdom hall and a sister came in with a bookbag with a big picture of a smurf on it!

My JW mother says the Watchtower hasn't sold any buildings in Brooklyn and that people who "left" the HQ still lives in the buildings
by MadameSweden inhello!.
my jw mother just told me about all the fantastic buildings that the watchtower has bought and renovated in brooklyn.. i told her that they will make a lot of money when they sell such buildings.. she said that they haven't sold any of the buildings and that they bought them because they need them as homes for all the "brothers" that work at the head quarter.. i told her that i thought that the wathtower doesn't need that many people at the head quarter anymore.. she agreed to that and said that the people still live in the buildings, but they now have "wordly" employments and pay rent for living in the watchtower buildings in brooklyn.. does anyone here know if the things she told me are true?.

Madame,
Here is a current news article for your mother showing the Bethelites did not stay in the Society's buildings after they were sold.

Here are some links to some articles and discussion about the properties being sold. I'm sure there are several more. There are also several threads discussing what is happening to the older ones that have been laid off by the Society.

My JW parents met my wife, but would not see me...
by Confession inso it was time for the 25 year reunion of tawas area high school's class of '84.
because i was class president, i've been responsible for throwing all the reunions we've held.
while i come to michigan on business a few times per year, i don't usually make it all the way up to the little, northeast, lake huron tourist town where they live.

You never fail to impress me. I'm glad you are doing so good. And you married a really neat young lady.
I was surprised at your mother's reaction to your visit. After she agreed to see you last time I really thought she was softening and would be more open in the future.
Maybe you guys can come visit us at one of the West Phoenix MeetUps.

"... just a cynical cover story (invented later) ..."
I don't think it was invented later because the 'elders of old' were on the deed to the property. There was a copy of that deed on JWD 2 or 3 years ago.

Why were you baptized?
by bluecanary ininspired by another thread.. i was baptized at 12 years old.
i had a cousin, two years older than me, who was prettier, more outgoing and more popular in the hall than i was.
i couldn't beat her at any of that stuff, but i figured i could be a better jw than she was.

I was also 12 and have no idea what possessed me. Guess it was what everyone else was doing at the time.
That was about 1961 I think - before all the questions.

Only JW "adults" getting baptized in France?
by Gayle intens of thousands of jehovah's witnesses meet in france(afp) 43 minutes ago.
paris tens of thousands of jehovah's witnesses gathered on saturday in cities across france for an annual international gathering, the religious movement said.. about 150,000 flocked to meetings with the main gathering in villepinte, in the paris region, attracting 50,000 followers.. several hundred jehovah's witnesses were baptised by being immersed in water during the event, which lasts the whole weekend.. those baptised were adults, following the example of christ.. jehovah's witnesses consider themselves the heirs of a primitive form of christianity.. their beliefs are strongly based on the text of the bible and they consider modern christian churches to have deviated from the book's true teachings.. followers reject the ideas of modern evolutionary theory and refuse blood transfusions.. they are perhaps best known for preaching on doorsteps, where they offer religious literature and attempt to convert people.. the movement emerged towards the end of the 19th century in the united states and arrived in france in 1906.. there are more than seven million jehovah's witnesses worldwide and around 150,000 in france.. the group's status varies from country to country.
they are given the same recognition as mainstream religions in austria and germany but are classed as a "recognised cult" in denmark.. in france, some of their branches have the status of "religious association" but the movement was also mentioned in a 1995 parliamentary report on sects.. google_ad_section_end(name=article) copyright 2009 afp.

Hi Gayle. I just saw that on Google news and wondered if you had seen it yet.
It is interesting they made such a point of this.
I too wonder what they consider adults there or if it is just another way to use theocratic warfare.

Read Skeeter's thread on man in German Kingdom Hall with a gun
by the research lady inif you read the story skeeter wrote and the comments that follow, you will see how what i am about to say ties in.
anyone who denies that being one of jehovah's witnesses can add to or cause many illnesses, including mental illness such as schizophrenia among others, i will share some statements from watchtower's own publications.
although the horrible crime that just took place in san antonio texas may not have been a direct result of the woman's involvement with jehovah's witnesses, statements such as the following could do nothing more than add to an already volatile situation.
