I don't think the idea was to coerce or to frighten people with hell fire , the idea was to spread good news that all those suffering in the world could be saved and live forever . IMO God is a motivator with promises of good things to come , not threats . He does however explain that those who don't chose his way will not get the rewards once his anger reaches it's limits they will be destroyed but will not know pain and suffering for eternity either only the end of consciousness all together .

Is there a Christian message without the element of fear/perceived threat?
by nvrgnbk inso many christians highlight love and mercy as the main point of their religion.. that's undeniably appealing.. but is it true to christianity?.
in the end, isn't the belief all about escaping god's violent wrath?
aren't those that are unable to accept the system's contradictions and absurdities promised suffering and eventual destruction as punishment for their disbelief?.

J.W.'s Should "Hall" (Haul) Themselves Into 21rst Century
by Rapunzel inreading another thread about how the organization is not particularly successful in its effort to preach the gospel and news of kingdom, especially in developing and politically/culturally isolated nations and regions, it ocurred to me that the winessess are essentially using methods which are far outdated and very ineffective or non-productive.. so i was wondering if they could help further their own cause by going "high tech.".
i wonder: how much does a satellite cost?
is the cost laughably prohibitive for them?

IMO I think they built bigger and faster facilities because they do expect the babylonian religions to be destroyed which will leave them the last standing christian church and thus they expect a large influx of newbies , therefore it leaves them more capable to provide literature .The fact they keep saying the end is sooooooo close kinda throws one off from following the implications of what they are doing , since I've heard such stuff as they need the new equipment for the millennial reign on the board . I personally think the catholic church is about to meet it's end which would leave nearly a billion people looking for new and more accurate religions . It would not surprise me if say the the jews wind up suing them over the nazi persecution and take over where the vatican is as compensation . I've heard that italy wants to take back the vatican from the church . There are allot of things that could play out to bring them down . Just like babylon it will probably happen without any blood shed . The writing is not only on the wall but countless WTBTS publications .I wonder if that prophesy were to come true then how many on the board would reconsider the WTBTS as a false prophet .

there was pretty much no doctrine presented at this convention at all.

To them to question the org. is the same as anarchy and rebellion against jesus himself since the FDS are considered the embodiment of christ on earth. Kinda does remind me of the catholic church saying the same stuff in the middle ages but the WTBTS is not near as tyrannical but still wanting the same type of power .

If the bible isn't saying so , I guess I can speculate with the best of them , David wanted to show the evidence that "Jehovah" had sunk the sling stone in goliaths head. We all know it was against Jewish law to leave the dead unburied over night even ,so the belief of using it on a stick to warn others is not kosher.

somebody did mention gas prices tonight at the book study, some now think they are helping to save the environment even, I think Al Gore would get all exited over it . I'd have to say , wouldn't the walk to the hall be good exercise for getting in shape for the D2D work? yes , heathen has attended a couple of meetings .

I had one jw tell me recently that it was because of their growth and being able to let others use the hall on the bookstudy nights . Don't know how for real that is but we will find out.

by yknot inwell rick's video on venus got me thinking about our favorite wannabe international heavy......the un.. we all know the lame half assed excuse that ciro released regarding the library card..... how long after ted is permanently infirmed or dead until the hand picked younguns' decide to quietly ditch the un doctrine?.

They just simply put a gag order out . Everybody clams up , they won't even bother to write an article explaining anything in the mags .I did talk to some jw's and they did say it was back to the old belief that the UN was the scarlet beast .I think they totally screwed up by making man made government the superior authority after saying the appointed times of the nations had concluded and the kingdom was now in power . They stated in allot of publications that the worlds political powers are controlled by satan so they in effect made satan ruler over God even .Unbelievable ..............

WTWizard - the WTBTS is saying that it's your choice , you can if you want , you don't have to pioneer or auxiliary pioneer if you don't want to. I guess the field service once a week is not a "large door" but will keep you in good standing .Their minimum requirements have been reduced since people are not having the time since they work more hours to survive.
