Why I Like the "Proclaimers" Book
by t33ap80c inwhile it is true that the "proclaimers" book is not always as open and honest about the society's history as it claims to be, it is open and honest enough to bring into question the society claim to being god's organization.
it's a matter of (1) knowing what to look for, (2) where to find it and then, (3) to be able get the sense of what it means.. take for example the extremely important matter of the second coming of christ.... on the top of page 47 the book truthfully explains how president charles russell came to believe that jesus returned invisibly in 1874 to begin his second coming ("invisible presence").
and then a careful reading of the footnote on page 133 shows that the date of jesus' return was not changed to 1914 until 1943.. it is likely that even if some witnesses notice that fact, they do not get the sense of what it means.

So you're saying they condemned anyone that refused the 1874 date just like they did any who argue on 1914?

Why are witnesses being "Persecuted" in certain countries?
by finallyfree! infor the most part this "persecution" is confined to countries where political balance can change on the drop of a dime.
watchtower witnesses who go door to door will speak of their religious views which include not voting or supporting the political parties.
where the watchtower control a percentage of the population through their kingdom halls and they turn people off from voting they have in effect formed their own type of independant political organization.

They are not only disliked for their condemnation of everybody and everything that disagrees with them they also take up allot of time fighting things in court and it can cost a fortune to prosecute cases so slows down the worlds political process. They are run by lawyers that believe fighting in courts is the same of giving a witness. I think using the courts actually makes you part of the political system .

Political/Religious rant
by sabastious ini've noticed that humans work better in small groups of like minded individuals.
the congregation books studies were always more enjoyable than the kingdom hall meetings to speak from a jw perspective.. when more people get involved the worse the scanario can get.
not to say all large groups are corrupt or even to say that all small groups are benign.

The idea behind democracy was that the people elect like minded politicians, it's supposed to be run by a majority vote. What we get is completely different with corporate fascism taking control. Our government is bought and paid for . The WTBTS interpreted the babylonian harlot as being devoured by the UN not burned with fire . The UN will probably go after all the wealth of it's NGO members and also realizing that religion is what is causing many problems will outlaw their practice. IMO

Elder wants to do "other activities" with me
by InterestedOne ini'm fully aware that this is a cult, and i was waiting for the social elements to kick in.
so far, i have just been doing the "bible study," discussing doctrine, etc.
however, recently one of the elders said he wants to get together with me to do other activities.

Voting a conscience matter??
by Cynisister inhappy new year one and all!,.
the local elders sent a letter home with my hubby, pretty much stating that after "many" attempts to visit and speak with me, this letter is once again asking to meet because it came to their attention that i voted in the last pres.

The only way to vote is to vote for the president of the WTBTS so they do vote on some things

attended a jw memorial talk yesterday
by man in black inafter being da'd for two years, i felt it was my duty to attend the memorial talk for an elderly brother who i greatly respected over the years.. i was quite nervous going back to the kh and seeing everyone.. well, my wife and i walked in, and most of the elders we saw just looked away, or acted like we were invisible.
several of our old friends winked, smiled, or waved secretly.
the hall was full, and this elder named jeff renfroe placed us in the 2nd row from the front.

They really are a bunch of inconsiderate A holes . What gets me is how they talk about being considerate and respectful in the publications then in practice they are petty small minded oafs .

Don't Ignore Us!
by peacefulpete inwhen i first left the jw's some years ago, one of the most incredible observations i made was just how irrelevant the wt and jw's were to the larger public.
when the conversation turned to my history (as it often did, because i desperately wanted to discuss it) the most comon reaction was of complete unawareness of the jw's, much less their doctrine, or complete surprise that i regarded them as destructive.
to the later, the jw's were understood to be just another church like any other, a little weird perhaps but just one of the many churches in town.

No kidding all I heard was constant complaints of my old truck with dirt on it and prying questions of whether I had insurance or what sort of mechanical repair it was in. Glad you could make the meeting but don't you see how clean and organized we are ? Then there's the complaints of paying for everything . Good grief .They really are a real estate developing book publishing corporation. The end is so close they always need new stuff to enslave everybody . corporations are greedy entities and love to enslave people usually using fascist means.
