It would mean so much to my very elderly parents if I went. I hate that religion so much, but I adore and love my mother and father. My sister and I, along with a couple of good friends have decided that we will tell my parents tomorrow..."We will go to the Memorial to honor you, but absolutely no other reason."

What's the strangest thing you've heard someone seek counsel with the elders about?
by keyser soze inpersonally, i never went to the elders with anything(not voluntarily, anyway).
but a friend of mine once asked a couple of elders whether it would be acceptable for him and his wife to make a sex tape, for their own personal viewing.
needless to say, the idea was frowned upon..

An adult publisher asked my father (in the 70's) if it would be okay to buy candy cigarettes.

Judicial Committee Meetings Sexual Matters
by Celestial inanyone had three elders (judicial committee) question you on sex before marriage?.
case in point, being raised as one of jehovah's witnesses, i partied with peers that were witnesses by tradition, inherent faith.
at the age of eighteen (1992), i was conversing about the elders with a group of witnesses, and a girl who had been before a judicial committee chimed in and said, they ask questions that are none of their fucking business.

When the 300 pound, 65 year old brother (with terrible hygiene and suspicious skin disorders) confesses to adultery, the JC have zero interest in the details.

So What Would You Do If You Won $550,000,000?
by Mary inok, so the mega millions jackpot is at half a billion dollars.
if you won and decided to take it in a lump sum, you automatically lose 40%, then there's state and federal taxes, so you'd actually get a 'meazly' $240,000,000.. what would you do if you won that kind of money?
other than donate a chunk to the world-wide-wit-lessing-work..........

Why Elders leave the Organization and why their Wives stay.
by stuckinamovement ini have talked to quite a few brothers who have served as elders and servants and left the organization.
in most cases their wives have remained in despite the husbands best efforts to persuade his wife that the organization is wrong.
even though the wife can see problems within they continue to press on in service to the society.

Finally Awake ...Two reasons for not getting a ride home.
1. Growing up in rural WI, alll the elders lived between 20-60 miles from the hall. We lived 20 west of the hall. There was not anyone to take my mother and 4 siblings home on Thursday night. No one else lived even remotely close to us. In the 70's we were a one car family.
2. As an elder's wife, I had a husband that had no concept of time. Everytime there was an elder meeting after the service meeting, he would always say "It will only be 5 minutes, I promise."

5/15 WT - WT Society Displays Condescending Attitude towards Marriage
by flipper inas most of us know the wt society has always claimed that it's dissapproved in god's sight to marry a non-jw .
although they've never made it a disfellowshipping offense, any jw who marries outside the jw organization is looked at as " weak " or lacking " spirituality " and loses certain alleged " privileges " in the congregations.
they use scriptures in the old testament as support for this.

I have some great friends in San Diego who have been together for 32 years. They are so happy together - just love each other's company. They just recently retired and are now making plans to travel the world together. But here is the clencher.....They never bothered to get married. They certainly do not have God's blessing nor the Watchtower's (which they know nothing of). They have great respect for each other (what else could you ask for?)

LifeistooShort...We have so much in common! 20 years of living like an Afghan woman. So many elder's wives like their position (I hated everything about it). I often looked enviously at the women in our hall that had unbelieving mates.

Ohio Cowboy...That story brought tears to my eyes.
Usualusername..I am so sorry that you suffer from depression!
I cried on 1/15/12 when my 20 year daughter left for her trip circling the entire world (semester at sea). I knew it would be months before I could see her beautiful smile again and hear her sweet little girl voice, see her roll her eyes at me and hear her snicker at some dumb comment I made. I actually sobbed for 2 days. I will cry tears of joy when she returns this summer.
