Awake 8/2012: YPA - Who Are My Role Models (with snark)
by corpusdei inwheeeee!!!!!!
another ypa article trying mould young children into nice little myrmidons, and once again, the only way i can stand to read it is by inserting as much low-brow commentary as i can.
read hebrews chapter 11 and pick one of the men or women named there.

What kids talk like this?!?!...
Terrence - My friends Kyle and David never minimize the feelings of others. They are always available to help people with their problems, while they put their own anxieties on the back burner
Emmaline - My role model is my mom. She knows her Bible like the back of her hand, and she always looks for opportunities to talk to people about her faith.
These Awake writers are so out of touch!

I really liked the bird crap one too since that was the scripture that was on the front of my wedding invitation in 1986.

Do JWs treat women like second-class citizens, like their husbands' property?
by matt2414 inas an elder, i recall that the husband always had to be present on any judicial committee meeting involving his wife, but that the wife was not to be present on judicial committee meetings involving her husband.
has this changed?
if not, isn't that treating women as lesser persons than their husbands?.

The way my elder husband treated me for 20 years was very similar to how Afghan men treat their wives. I just wanted basic human rights like being able to have my witness parents visit or be able to visit them. I was his property and he was not going to share me with anyone.
It makes me ill that when I reached out for help (twice in 20 years) to an elder about my husbands headship being unbearable, I was squashed like a bug. It was the good ol boys club and I was a woman.

We're proud to share her story & a section from "Work With Passion in Midlife and Beyond," written by my sister-in-law for Baby Boomers. (She left the JWs at 16 and is a successful author and counselor.)
by AndersonsInfo inthis post is not an advertisement to sell a book.
please read on and you'll see why i thought you might like to meet my husband, joe's sister, nancy.
back in the 1950s, much to her family's dismay, nancy was not interested in spending her life as a jw and left the group when she was 16. she married a fledgling banker at an early age (probably to escape the jws and her family), moved from dallas, texas, to apple valley, calif., and had three children.

to survive and thrive in midlife and beyond, get rid of distractions like obsolete possessions, over drinking, overeating, socializing too much, working too much, and spending time with people who drain your energy. With distractions out of the way (and this will take a while), rewrite your life story so that the outcome matches who you are and what you value at this stage of life.
Such sound advice.

Pioneers and Their Way of Counting "Time"
by Eiben Scrood inin the congregations in my area there was an expression to the effect that 'there's counting time and then there's the way pioneers count their time'.
the watchtower's guidelines were pretty strict on when time could be counted.
some pioneers followed it and others didn't.. on particularly motivated young man comes to mind, he would work full-time or close to it and pioneer.

When I pioneered as a single sister I started my time at the first door and stopped my time at the last door. When I married another pioneer, he convinced me that we could start our time when we pulled out of the parking lot and stopped our time when we got home (even if we took multiple breaks, garage sales, shoe repair store, mall etc.)

SBC..."And there you have it, folks... the Watchtower Society's favorite demographics: the illiterate and the naive."
This statement is so true, one wonders whether to laugh or cry.
