My parents were at that convention and were engaged to be married. My mother was a regular pioneer and my father was the congregation overseer. They still speak of it as if it was the trip of a lifetime. -

June 2016 WT (study edition) Bashing Higher Education....AGAIN!
by ToesUp inparagraph 14: .
"this means that we need to examine our heart constantly to see if it is being enticed by worldly entertainment, associations, and styles of dress and grooming.
or the love of the world might involve efforts to attain “great things,” such as through the pursuit of higher education.

The GB have a lot of nerve talking about "Great things" when they have their very own private lake that rises and lowers at the touch of a button. -

by Sabin inso my hubby has been on a bit of a roll about the jdubs, we were talking a lot about them & he said the buzz word he hate's the most is "worldly" why?

genuine english guy seeking jw lady
by english_gentleman inhi, i believe that a lady is put on earth to satisfy the needs of her partner and respect his views in all matters.. i realize some here may consider that old fashioned and not based on sexual equality.. yet a lady and man are not created equal because the lady gives birth and the man must sire many children.
if you are a lady under 30 and keen to meet me, willing to cook and breed, then please message me here.
please do not contact me if you disagree with my views, we can agree to differ.

What TV shows were forbidden in your JW household?
by Funchback inin the u.s., three's company was not allowed.
it was explained to me that it was an immoral show because a man and women lived together and no one was married.
the sister who gave this observation was a family friend and we were newbies to the religion.. at least i somehow managed to watch the benny hill show undetected..

All the good shows were on meeting nights. Somehow Hee Haw and Little House on the Prairie were always available to watch. I tried to watch Flamingo Road one time, but was caught, grounded and sent to bed. -

Your feelings for the former travelling overseers
by Hecce induring our wt life we met a good number of friends involved in the circuit and district work.
i am sure that we share the same experience and that we remember fondly some that we caring, loving and generally interested in the brothers.
at the same time we might remember others that were arrogant, selfish, abusive and oppressive.

Most were your typical big fish in a microscopic pond. They would have amounted to "below average" in the real world.
There was one CO that stood out in my JW career. He was Lebanese (Had served in Lebanon during much unrest) and was truly just a slave for the society. He and his wife pulled a 6 ft camper that they lived in. It did not even have a bed, just 2 benches for the table. Those benches, with 1 inch green cushions, were the master bedroom suite (and this couple was not young). Whatever money the brothers gave him during the week, he would take that amount off of his weekly congregation expenses. He would never, ever take gas money even though he always drove. He had little personality, just a desire to serve his god in the only way he knew how.

Couldn't the GB have provided more helpful guidance on how long and loud "Christian" applause should be?I agree! I sure hope we have a video on JW.org showing us a demonstration on "Let Us Clap Two Hands Together (Not too loud and not too long) in a Way That Brings Praise (Not shame) to Jehovah and His People"
