Socializing for 41 years with people that I could never relate to nor had anything in common with - most of them sadly born without a personality with no hope of ever being able to figure out how to develop one.

The Official What happened at the Memorial thread
by truthseeker ini thought rather than everyone start their own topic relating their experience of attending the memorial, we keep it simple and have just one thread.
if anything, it's saves bandwidth.. i will be going to the memorial tonight and will post my experiences afterwards.. all the other memorials i attended, i was an active jw, so this will be my first experience as a submarine witness.
it's weird being on the other side so to speak.

Lily Allen concert last night was wonderful. Came home feeling energized, rejuvenated, full of life and guilt free. Parents called saying how beautiful their memorial was, they sounded depressed, worn out and feeling guilty that they are only able to put in 50+ hours a month in their twilight years.

My hard core JW parents desperately want their five (now 4) apostate kids to go every year. The last two years none of us could stomach it. This year my sister and I decided to tell our parents we are going. We both live within blocks of a hall. My parents are ecstatic with joy. They are so excited you would think we were going straight to heaven tonight. Anyway I did not have the heart to tell them I am going to the Lilly Allen concert here in Denver tonight with my 17 and 18 year old daughters and my sister will definately be in bed with her memorial wine by 7:30 P.M. I hate lying but it sure has made two old people very happy!!!

Do not forget the sister who throws the biggest post-memorial party. I could not wait to start drinking after I had to endure the 3 ten minute prayers, the same damn dumb songs that everyone sings with a teary eye, a talk that was usually went 15 minutes overtime, a new pair of shoes that were too tight and of course the smell of cheap wine passing in front of you and do not forget the EYE CANDY - all those sisters in their new polyester dresses

How Long Have you Been Out of the Witnesses ? Have you Moved On ?

i feel we all start healing at different speeds depending on how much hurt we went through in exiting ; and how much we've educated ourselves about how and why we were sucked in by a mind control cult.
at first i felt anger towards the organization , but after learning about mind control within 3 years of leaving the cult i felt sorry for those who are still trapped inside the witnesses being deceived.

Three years for me and wow a much, much easier life! My ex-husband elder of 20 years would not let me associate with my four apostate siblings and he would not let me see my zealous 3rd generation parents (total control freak). When I left I finally got to be with my siblings again and my parents. I have new friends that I love. I do not miss the old witness friends at all. They were all a bunch of hypochondriacs with no personality and they all definitely suffered from the victim syndrome. When I walked out of the KH for the last time I also miraculously gave up my addiction to perscription pain killers and alcohol immediately. Wow - talk about the truth setting one free!!!!!

I wrote a letter to the elders letting them know that my ex-husband had grounds to remarry. I thought it would be the kind thing to do and I felt it was safe to do since I had not been to a meeting or had any association with any witnesses for two years. However, they hounded me for a year to meet- I refused, so they announced me as Df'ed without even telling me.
