Poster country flags and privacy
by Simon inthe new forum originally had a little country flag next to each post showing the country that the post was made from based on the geoip encoding (the country the ip address is from).
before i switched over to the new site someone made an issue about it violating their privacy and i didn't want to complicate and confuse the switchover with policy debate at the same time as technical issues so removed the flags even though i disagreed.. someone has already requested it as a feature and i think it should be added back so i thought it's now time to open the discussion and get everyone's opinions.
first, the reason i think it should be shown:.

Ever tried "Dry January"? Join Ms. OM & me for a 30 day liver vacation!
by Open mind inthere are a few things i picked up from watchtowerism that i still find value in.
(although, i could have easily picked them up elsewhere.).
one of these is the 30-day test to abstain from all booze.. .

Toward the end of my JW membership I always came home from the meetings needing a FEW stiff gins followed by a glass of wine or two. After I left it only got worse. I finally realized I had to give it up for good and forever.....and I did a little while back. I sleep sound, have tons of energy, look 100% better (probably smell better too). The only bad part is that when you give up alcohol you lose a ton of weight. I am skin and bones and yearn for the days when that bottle of wine kept a little jiggle on :)
If I was still going to meetings, I firmly believe I would be downing my beverage BEFORE the meeting and have no desire to give it up.

From 1 to 10, how do you rate the value of the Internet in your awakening?
by Hidden-Window inas we all know, the internet is a real game-changer in allowing us to know the truth about the watch tower and its history.
i always had doubts and it was the internet that presented me with the ever-growing number of individuals who were going through a similar struggle.. i give the internet a 9 in my awakening.
what about you?.

Zero for me. 20 years of marriage to a very well respected elder that loved his position at all costs. Every time he stepped foot on stage, it was as if I had X-ray vision into the corruption of the organization. I would seethe with anger at the audacity of this man and his horrendous religion.

Wives who complain about their husbands work schedule but refuse to get a job
by hoser ini listen to one of these all time in our hall.
she brings it up constantly about how they would do this or that but he has to work that saturday.
i think she should get a job and then he could find a lower paying 9 to 5 job..

I was married to a man that refused to work because he only wanted to pioneer and be on stage. His parents supported us for the first decade (lovely, right?). I was not allowed to get a job because I would probably fornicate and do other unspeakable brazen acts.

All my siblings had left years before and welcomed me with as much love, affection and excitement you could possibly imagine. My parents were sad, but deep down totally understood due to me being married to an elder that more resembled a member of ISIS than your average husband. Even after being DF'ed, my JW parents have continued to stay very close to me through the years.

Elders: Born-Ins vs Recruits
by breakfast of champions inthis is an unofficial survey.. was curious as to the number of currently serving elders who were born-in and/or raised as jw versus those who were "recruited"( i.e, not born in or raised as jw.).
for instance, right now in the hall i am assigned to:.
2 elders were born-in and/or raised as jws.. 5 were not (recruited as adults).

BOC, another interesting thing I have observed is that a lot of born in elders have (had) unbelieving fathers

I remember that convention well. I was newly married and my husband and I had a few years of full time service under our belt, so we decided to sign up for possible candidates for Gilead. I was guzzling the kook aid.
