My husband and kids are junk food junkies!
I find that leaving fruit out on the counter or vegetables in the front of the fridge encourages everyone to grab an apple instead of heading for the candy. Also when my husband goes shopping instead of me, I always tell him "think fresh" Not fried or processed. It is amazing how gross those hostess cupcakes taste after you appreciate fresh fruits etc. He still walks in with his usual bags of Doritoes and Mountain Dew but I hope some of my tips are sinking in a little.
None of us have weight problems but I do worry about heart desease and high blood pressure since it runs in both of our families. -

Thats awful.
J.W.s or not,
I actually cant believe "anyone" with any common sense would hire someone with that kind of criminal record for that line of work. Very poor judgement with tragic results.
Criminal background checks are made available for peoples protection. They should be utilized, especially when there are children involved. -

My Sister's At Bethel Right Now
by bluesapphire inwonder if she'll have to be face to face with the three new york articles that came out today.. i'm crossing my fingers and praying.
she's a sociologist (believe it or not) and knows about social issues.
just that she says "talk to the hand" whenever anything is negative about dubs.. but this -- this she wont be able to ignore.

Blue,
I know how you feel.
I have an aunt who has devoted her entire life to the org. never had children and has been a missionary for as long as I can remember.
It is amazing how people can ignore the obvious, even their own common sense. Even when I believed what the W.T.S taught, I still felt that something was very wrong. Even as a child, the whole thing about everyone being killed in Armageddon except witnesses really bothered me. I am very relieved that I was able to prove to myself that it was false. -

Birthdays
by Beans innow as we know the jehovahs witnesses don`t celebrate the "birthday"!
now when a baby is born that is the birthday and if you bring a gift to the new baby, that is a birthday gift hence the birthday is celebrated.
as we know the bible does not instruct that the birthday should not be celebrated so why not continue celebrating the birthday every year instead of the first one as the jehovahs witnesses do?.

WANTING to Believe in God
by dobby inhas anyone had this experience?.
after letting go of my beliefs as a jw, i felt the only alternative was to be atheist.
or maybe it is just logical to there is no god when i am only listening to my mind and not my heart.

I believe in God.
Im not sure if it is because I want to believe or because I need to believe. When I found out the truth about the org. I was very upset and I was about to write everything off alltogether too. Prayer and studying the bible put things into prespective for me. I have a completley different understanding of heaven than when I was a witness. This very subject is actually why I chose my username.
I feel much more at peace believing that my loving grandparents are in heaven right now and not somewhere in "Gods memory". I also am enjoying feeling in my heart that God would not judge or condemn anyone by what "religion" they belong to.
The, You have to go to my church to be saved, mentality.
Give me a break.
As if God cares what building, if any, you worship him in. -

Let me get this straight.
Now the society is actually telling J.W.s that they are dilberatly being dishonest with them, uh, I mean "keeping things confidental to keep peace".
That is unbelievable!
People are honestly buying this?
That just blows my mind. -

Organized Religion
by blindfool ini've been thinking about this for a few days now and decided i'd go ahead and post this topic.
i know this may offend some loyal posters out there, but i'd like to throw this out for discussion.. is there something inherently wrong with a religion just because it is organized?.
does the ex-jw community understand that all churches don't feel that their members must tow the party line?
-

I dont think absolutly all "Organized religions" are wrong.
I guess what I am most bothered by is the fact that many religions claim themselves to be the only true faith recognized by God. Many claim that if you are not a member of their organization, you will not be saved, inheret Gods kingdom or go to heaven.
Also the control issue is a sensitive one for me. Some people are willing to risk their lives or their families lives for what they are taught by their religion. It is scary that just about anyone can claim that their teaching of the bible is from "God". -

Thanks Andee,
I will be in touch.
Sometimes we find ourselves being frustrated with him because he just cant seem to calm down. I think I yell at my husband more though. I seem to constantly say, "he cant help it, he just cant sit still, its not his fault". I am not against medication, I have heard of some children becomming violent or angry on certain meds though. I definatly want him to get a handle on it before he starts having problems socially.
Thanks again. -

I work in our local Community Action Office.
We help the elderly and low income people in our community by offering services such as, personal care, housecleaning, bus service, free books, food pantries and other food drives. We also offer financial assistance to low income clients with overdue heat and electricity bills or who are homeless or facing eviction.
I enjoy going to work. It really doesnt seem like a job but it is hard not to get emotional when you meet so many who are disadvantaged. One time a man came in to pick up a box of food and it was so heavy that he couldnt carry it. He had walked to the office so we offered to give him a ride home. He pulled out two crumpled up dollar bills from his pocket and tried to pay us for the ride. I was crying for the next hour in my office. The girls thought I was basket case but it really touched me that this poor man wanted to give us what little money he had.
