Someone on this thread mentioned that most people here left because of the way they were treated. Not so in my case. Becoming aware of the way scripture was twisted and then wondering if my disagreement was 'my own evil mind' led to the realization that I was spiritually starving to death.
The last meeting I attended was in the mid 90's. I hadn't been to one in a long time and had been dealing with religion induced depression. But it was all I knew, so I decided to give it another try. NOTHING had changed. It was the same regurgitated crap using the same parroting elders (some of which I'm related to). The spiritual famine is devastating. The sadness filtered from the core of my being and was so overwhelming that I couldn't control tears of defeat and hopelessness. I was a sobbing idiot. And I didn't care.
I knew this would be my last meeting. And it was.

Sunday's public talk...
by kzjw inwent with the wife this week for the public talk (i simply will not sit through the watchtower study), the subject was about how poorly governments are taking care of thier people in disasters.
the speaker(who had a british accent) started by saying "burma(myanmar) had 2 tsunamis and the government sent flat screen tv's as aid for the refugees..." needless to say this dillweed lost me for the next 30 minutes of his talk about how man can't care for god's people.
i left during the study as always and returned at the end of the meeting, still burning over the glaring lie told by this "brother" which by the way no one even batted an eye in the congregation!

kzjw...kudos to you. If more people were knowledgeable enough to call others on their lies, maybe more care would be taken in preparing the talks or more thought before making silly comments. Blatant lying from the podium.....'theocratic warfare?'.....a pox on that slanderous organization. Simply another offspring of the "father of the lie."

When you were a Jw did you have a relationship with God?
by Fisherman indifficult to understand how even heavys that taught about having a relatinship with god now proclaim that it was imagined after leaving the truth.
puts into question appointments and people serving.
i can understand if some one new leaves the org.

Turns out that I did. But not in the way I imagined. The revelation and sealing of that relationship is what brought me out of the JW org.

The WT would do anything (really, anything) for a good reputation
by Hiddenwindow inone of the most troubling characteristics of this cult is (now we know it) it would anything in order to present itself as a reputable religion.
this obsession is pretty pervasive.
when taken into account, it explains many things, such as .

And it must be frustrating for them too....because as hard as they try it will forever elude them.

Sunday's WT Study Article (May 18)
by FairMind inthis sundays watchtower lesson is titled who is wise and understanding among you?.
its mostly a rehash of past material concerning the need to be cooperative with fellow christians for the peace of the congregation.
however, i suspect that whole point of this study article is actually contained in paragraph 14 where it talks about elders who might be removed from their position if they are deemed by the body and the co as no longer meeting the scriptural qualifications laid out for the position.

I believe the way is being paved for the removal of many elders in the near future.
Maybe they're laying the foundation for the development a 'clergy'......you know, a senior pastor, a junior pastor, a youth pastor, etc. Since the elder pool seems to be dwindling due to undesirable/unavailable elder material for one reason or another, that could be some 'new light.' No need to mention that Christendom's been doing that for centuries.

Is Your Life THAT Much Better Off Since Leaving The Witnesses?
by minimus inwitnesses love to say how "miserable" the "apostates" are when they .
leave "the truth".. how would you respond to this statement from your own personal experience?
?.

Infinitely so.....the real topper here is that when I see JW's in public, the "happiest people on earth" are really sad, worn out and haggard. And they see no way out of their miserable condition.

Is the Bible REALLY the "Word of God"?
by nicolaou init can be picked apart scientifically and it's prophetic claims don't withstand scrutiny.
surely god could've come up with something more convincing?.
if the almighty had started genesis by establishing his credentials thoroughly i'd be more inclined to take the rest of the book seriously.

It all depends on what's inspiring the reader.

What's Your View Of Jehovah's Witnesses As Individual Persons?
by minimus indo you think they make the best parents?.
the best children?.
the best workers?.
-
lnunya
They are not the best parents, the best children, the best workers or the most moral. They are simply one of the most delusional groups around. Makes life more palatable and reinforces the 'us versus them' mentality.
