by Confession init was two years and two months ago when i told my mother that i no longer recognize the wts religion as being "the truth.
" as you may know, to a jw mother, this is like telling her you've decided to jump off a skyscraper.
i have spoken to her only two times since then, and have not seen her or my dad since then.

Noah's ark - Can't believe I once actually thought it was true
by sam_sane_now inwhen i was a jw i didn't even question that the noah's ark story might not be true.
i didn't realise that it wasn't achievable for a handful of people to gather literally millions of animals - two of each kind - and fit them into a boat where they would all survive for many days.
i didn't think about the fact that if the highest mountain was covered with water then how could plant life like trees and flowers come to exist again, especially so soon after, with the raven grabbing an olive leaf was it?

Great post and great article by Galileo. Can anybody make sense of that chart? It would be nice to have that explained. Numbers in ranks and files don't mean a lot to me without some kind of commentary. Especially the boxes on log mass. What wos that supposed to mean?
Did anybody ever read the book or see the documentary on the Ark that was popular in the late 70s? Has anybody ever debunked the idea that we have found the original ark on Mt Ararat? I was fascinated by that book when I was in 3rd or fourth grade. -

Was everyone really vegeterian pre-flood?
by blkblk13 inok it's late and im bored and this might ramble a bit but i got to thinking, the wbts always proposes that everyone, b/f god gave noah permission to eat meat, was vegeterian.
witnesses always talk about how in the new system we will all go back to being vegeterian since i think in isaiah it says the the lion or wolf will graze and eat grass like the lamb or something and it was never gods plan for us to eat meat.. this doesn't sound right to me.
why would god make animals begin to eat each other if it was not according to his plan?

What were the things that troubled you as a JW?

i'm talking about the smaller things.. for me one thing was the talk of no one being able to become a witness unless "jehovahs drew them to him".
as a born-in this never jived with me.

I was completely consumed with guilt and shame over masturbation. Also, that shame carried over to complicate many of my relationships. That guilt is a life ruiner.

Scary statistic! I'm one teacher that definitely will not teach religious dogma. In fact, in my class if the Bible comes up the students know that they must speak of it in non-religious terms, using words like myth or fiction or the old standby, "some people believe..." rather than stating things in absolute terms.

One Reason Why I Worship the God of the Bible
by snowbird inwhile this may be construed as a rebuttal to nvr's thread re: why i post about atheism, that is not my intent.. it is my intent, however, to show how i developed a belief in and love for the god of the bible.. my paternal grandfather, who died before i was born, was a baptist preacher, so you could say i cut my teeth on the bible.
i loved having it read to me, and once i learned how, reading it for myself.
i'm convinced that spirituality runs deep in my blood.. i've always had such a strong sense of right and wrong that injustices make me literally sick.
