Not to mention a big waste of gas in those huge “service vehicles”.

Upcoming Witless Calendar
by WTWizard inok, so the grand boasting sessions are in progress and will be so until september.
for them, that is the big thing that is in front of them.. beyond that, there is the beginning of a new circus year.
that happens in september, and the pioneers are back out in full force.

Reasons to Miss the Grand Boasting Session
by WTWizard inthose grand boasting sessions have begun, some of them starting with children still in school (and some when they needed to be at school to take final exams).
and yet they insist on people skipping school (and work) to be at all three days of these wastefests.. now, why might there be reason to go?
curiosity is one, and that is the kind of curiosity that often leads to trouble.

The last few years, I could NEVER stay awake through the first session. The DA was either too hot, too cold, too stuffy, etc. Bathroom lines (women’s) were always too long, poor nursing mothers had to nurse in the bathroom (YUCK!) at the CA. Rules, rules, rules.
My mother went last week and bragged about having a good time. (gag!)

Elders supposed contact DF&DA once every year???!!!???
by Quotes ini was speaking to my mom on the phone yesterday, and despite my trying to avoid it, we got to talking about wacky jw topics -- again.
actually, it was nearly unavoidable, since she had just returned from her summer convention.
aside: nice way to celebrate your wedding anniversary, mom & dad; at an assembly!

My last meeting was in 2002. I was not DF or DA, I just left.
No calls, no letter – nothing.

When the fog lifted - did you see the control tactics everywhere?
by AK - Jeff init took a while for me - but after some time i began to see most all religion as controlling entities, interested not only in forcing doctrine on adherents, but also, and perhaps primarily, seeking to control believers.
i initially saw this as somewhat benign, but have increasingly seen it as dangerous, even a malignant force in human social-evolution.
i see a far-right fundy church and it virtually screams "jwism" to me.

Yes
Despite my young age, it has taken me years to see it (due to the fact that I was raised around it) Control is everywhere, in all forms. They try to pass themselves off as a “free” religion in the form of “conscious matters” but that isn’t so. Wolves in sheep’s clothing.

Don't want to hurt your parents/famly's feelings huh?
by dawg ini've read where many of you have posted that you "don't want to hurt family members feelings" and that's the reason you don't come clean about how you feel as far as the jw's go.
i was wondering if it ever dawned on you who think like this how you still are being abused mentally by both this religion and your family by worrying about their feelings while they have total disregard for your thoughts and/or feelings?
i've never told a family member how they must think for me to talk to them; never hounded a family member to come to a meeting they have clearly shown they don't want to attend.

I have no reason to blast my mother for this. I am not angry with her. She had a horrible upbringing, came into the cult as a young adult and barely survived a 27 years marriage to a man (not a JW) they “brothers” say she couldn’t divorce. There is not much family here and it will crush her if she knew what I feel. I am thinking of her feelings, not so much mine. This is not all etched in stone – I can change my mind tomorrow and “come clean”, but I don’t need that stress in my life, nor does she need it.

update...husband made appt. with the elders, what do you think of this?....
by New light for you inok... so my husband felt bad that the elders wanted to meet with us and he wasn't responding... so he set it up for saturday at 2 even though everyone said dont meet with them.
oh ya, and everyone said not to meet with them at your house, but again, he didn't want to rock the boat.
it's funny, though he was the first one to leave, he's still afraid and doesn't want to "raise any red flags" he's willing to just say "we're discouraged, can you just leave us alone fora while" feel free to yell at him (robert7).. here's the thing.

Funerals = JW infomercials
by Lady Zombie inone of the more asinine practices of jws is to turn someone's funeral into a borg infomercial.
every single jw relative i've had who has passed away, had an infomercial funeral.
hardly anything was ever said about them as people, except of course in how they served the borg.. "sister x was a very pugnatious woman, even into her late 80's, as i'm sure her family can attest to.

I remember there was a brother in my congregation that worked for UPS that was robbed and murdered on the job. It was a pretty high-profile case in the news and hundreds of people from his job, the community and several media/news organizations came with their cameras, etc to the memorial. Besides the fact that he left a wife and two young kids, nothing else was said about his life during the service. I was embarrassed and ashamed and this was years before I realized the Borg is a scam.

Being told what to say in Convention interviews
by passwordprotected inhas anyone else heard tell of interviewees in convention parts being told what to say?
the way i've heard it is you're contacted to be interviewed in a convention talk because you've had a great experience in some form or other and they need you to boast about it.
so, you meet with the brother handling the assignment and you go through your experience with him (boast about it).

Having a “non-believing” father and full-time employed, non pioneer mother, automatically disqualified me from boasting sessions, but I remember all of the answers from the other people sounded faked, very rehearsed and the wording and phrasing was always the same.
My mother did a part once (for the 1st time in 25 years of being in the Borg) about how she overcame having an UBM for so long. The truth was, despite my father's severe alcoholism, the elders told her she could not divorce him. After 27 years of marriage, she did divorce him but that wasn’t mentioned at all in the part.

Are all congregations equal?
by kzjw ini've not posted much, but as i've lurked here trying to find the answers about the wt lies, it only re-enforced my disdain for it's cult like properties.
i've read the horror stories of some who've been trapped in the "jw-multi gen" families trying to extricate themselves from the borg, and truly have empathy for "these ones".. i have also attended a couple of months worth of sun meetings with my wife (i listen to the talk, then walk during the wts) and as you've seen from previous posts, if the speaker lies, i will point it out to him after the meeting.
but yesterday in a conversation with my wife i shared with her what i read on jwd, compared to how her congregation operates.

I only attended mostly African American congregations and though we had a lot of characters, the same crap of shunning, the way the DF are treated, and closed minded elders, PO who thought he was the be all end all, and gossiping hens is universal.
Congregation profile: The members in my congregation mostly had new cars well paying jobs (I think their incomes are higher than the average in their communities/neighborhoods), homeowners, took vacations every year and there was a mixture between dual income families and single income families. Wives got their hair done every week and were very well dressed. Weddings were elaborate and expensive, and offspring were spanked liberally.
If you were poor, a single parent, husband who his not in the Borg, had more then two children or all over the above, you were left-out, didn’t get invited to “gatherings” (that very often included a lot of wine and beer) and the only gathering they were able to attend was the annual congregation picnic.
