Great posts guys!!! As for me I always wanted to get married, but never wanted an MS or an Elder. Unfortunately/fortunately, no one was truly compatible with me. And yes, I was approaching old maid status. I married "out of the Lord" and with his support had the courage to leave my former life behind. They probably think I was dragged out of "the truth" against my will. If only they knew...

Since leaving I've lost a few friends. But I distanced myself from them when I got married. I knew they would try to convince me that my husband was one of satan's agents. Once I learned the truth about "the truth", I left the hall for good. Thank goodness my family is not in the Borg, except for a couple relatives.

Reniaa: You mentioned "apostates" putting a negative spin on things. The Society does too. I heard a talk by a member of the Governing Body that associated college with someone's development of obsessive compulsive disorder. Some mental illnesses tend to surface when people are in the prime of their lives, regardless of what they are doing. If I used that same line of thinking, I would tell everyone not to attend meetings because 2 sisters died in a car crash on their way to the hall. On a separate occasion an elderly sister tripped and fell at the hall and died from the resulting injuries. Both of these stories are true, but they were freak accidents, not the norm. Regarding holidays and more importantly gathering with family, we always have a good time together, no drunkards or molesters or any other "elements" to ruin the fun.

Are the GREAT CROWD even supposed to go to Memorial?
by maryacclaim inso i ask this because, we read in luke 22:19, "to keep doing this in remebrance of me.
" so the society says that we are commanded to continue to observe this.
however, in john 6:53,54 we read, "most assuredly, i say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.

MaryAcclaim, I thought the same thing.
A sister called to invite me to the memorial 3 hours before it took place. I think she called because we passed each other in traffic that day.
Anyway, if someone asks if I attended I will ask them, "when you have dinner at your place do you invite people to come and just watch?"

It seems like PETA puts animal life above human life. I don't think animals should be wantonly slaughtered or abused, but I'm not gonna destroy someone's personal possessions, a fur coat, to prove a point.

You know, when I first read this scripture it was being applied to "worldly" books but I thought, "Couldn't that apply to the Society too?"

Is it true? John Denver asks any Witnesses to leave his concert!
by Witness 007 inversion 1. john denver at his concert asks "if there are any jehovah's witnesses in the audience can you please leave.".
version 2. on the johnny carson show he said the same before singing a patriotic song.
johnny carson told denver "see that cameraman there..and that lighting guy...there jehovahs witnesses, alot of witnesses work for me because their honest people..so now you can leave.".

Wow! A sister said the same thing regarding an Earth Wind and Fire concert. And I was stupid enough to repeat the story to others!!!!

The burdensome load of a Jehovah's Witness - did you feel this way?
by jambon1 infor me, my life as a jehovah's witness was tiring, depressing & miserable.
surrounded by negativity i felt utterly supressed & unhappy.
to carry out my 'responsibilties' became very difficult.

Like most of you, I didn't realize how DEPRESSED I was until I left. I always had a wall up between me and the real world. I didn't overextend myself in field service, because I knew that was a crock. Although, one time I auxiliary pioneered and I felt TERRIBLE! I was doing meaningless crap to count time. I didn't get 50 hours that month, but I was okay with it and I swore to myself that I would not do that again. Sincerity always reigned supreme with me and as time went on my JW activities became less sincere.
My JW years were in a fog. Now colors are brighter, I smile more, food tastes better, and I truly enjoy my family!
