If children are the ones who tend to believe in Santa etc, why do so many adults - some of them are even intelligent - chose to believe in God?

Belief in God, the Easter Bunny, Santa Clause, and Fairy God Mothers
by frankiespeakin inwhen we were a young child full of wonder at the world, so new, so innocent, we believed what ever mommy and daddy told us, if they said there was a tooth fairy why we believed it until we got older(hopefully) especially when we get our permanent teeth.. santa was probably discarded around the same time as the tooth fairy give or take a few years depending on gullibility or lack of it.. well lets face it we probably figured out the easter bunny first for the simple reason you only got some eggs,, which you can have any day of the week and you get to eat a lot of chocolate bunnies ears off not very pious mind you, nor do you fear the bunny might seek revenge for the impious act in some way like god might do remembering: the ark and ussa or wassa or something.
that definately should be considered as a contributing factor as to why and what order they get debuncked tooth fairy danta the benifit factor need to be brought in.. god too has to go in time, eventually, just like not all at once and for everybody.
religion to control the mind is on a head on course with human species vastly excellerated enlightenment.

I remember seeing them talking ....saying world trade centre 7 had fallen down on BBC news......20 minutes before it did
North Americans don't like thinking about this, or about thinking how WTC 7 actually fell; y'know, straight down as per a planned demolition. Apparently buildings accidentally falling that way isn't logical and if it ain't logical it can't have happened.
Oh, and if you point out that it did in fact happen, you become a nutter.

Oct.15th WT GB Tells JW Rank & File-You are Our Belongings Stay Humble
by flipper inthe mind control in this latest oct.15th is amazing.
our lurking jw friend sent us this and it basically tellls witnesses that their opinions don't matter and only god is good .
it belittles independent thinking and explains that each rank and file jw is owned by the alleged " faithful and discreet slave " .

Really, There Is A Lot To Learn About Your Faith
by AllTimeJeff inin ak - jeffs thread "did jesus ever claim to be the messiah", narkissos said the following that i think, and have learned, is rather profound:.
a better approach to this discussion might start with questioning the presupposition that there was one concept of "messiahship" common to all or even most 1st-century ad jews.. the idea is, we assume that the faith and religion we have now, is as it was way back then... clearly, it isn't.. i haven't devoted a great deal of my time to this subject, but i have read enough to realize that there is a lot more to the history of our churches and religions then we think.
jw history is pretty easy, as they started in the late 19th century.

In what way are Perry's arguments weak? Again, I'm fascinated with the atheists' need to attack and tear down the beliefs and faith of Christians, or at least to attempt to. By poisoning Perry's well by claiming his arguments are weak, you in fact strengthen them. Why not just let us Christians continue to masturbate in our own feces or whatever else it is you think luddites who believe in sky daddies do? Surely with such a retarded way of viewing life and the universe we only have a couple of years left before we evolve into something much more pleasant. I'll say it again, Christianity is almost 2000 years old. It should have died out. The Bible contains literature that is much older. Surely it should have been reduced to a mere footnote in the evolution of mankind. Yet for some reason the story of Jesus and the cross is still shaping and changing lives around the world. That, to me, is absolutely incredible. I've experiened the change that speaking to Christ, inviting him to come into my life has had on me as a person and the life I live. Rather than living with any sort of fear, as many claim Christianity is about, I'm living a life where I fear nothing. I speak to Christ and he speaks back, either through the Bible or through circumstances beyond my control or through the tangible, answer to prayers. Incredibly millions of people believe God has and is speaking to them, just as millions believe he doesn't. God, we were told by Nietzsche, was dead. Frustratingly for the atheists he continues to live.
As for there being some sort of fuss over whether Christians worship in exactly the same way as they did 1700 years ago, my reply is to ask, is Jesus front and centre of any Chrisitan worship? Anyone claiming to be a Christian should always have Jesus font and centre in their worship. That's how it was in the 1st C. and that's all that really matters.

Atheist Delusions: The Christian Revolution and Its Fashionable Enemies by David Bentley Hart And if we want God to speak to us, try speaking to him first then giving him the chance to reply through his Word the Bible. A simple prayer like, Lord Jesus, I struggle to believe that you are alive and interested in me. I find it hard to see the evidence. Please speak to me and open my eyes to any reality that you may be there. God may have been using this very thread to speak to us in some way. If there's any probability that may be true, what are we going to do about it?

When bad spelling trolls leave, new bad spellers (studies, JW's, JW lovers) arrive
by OnTheWayOut ini will totally leave names out, as many get all huffy about that.
it's also possible that i am wrong, though i doubt it.. it's just that some trolls seem to deliberately be terrible spellers to make themselves look more naive and when they leave here for whatever reason, some new bad speller comes along in less than a week with an impossible problem or a complicated love situation with a jw or they are a firm believer with questions.
just watch out.

1. Were you a born-in (including those who's parents converted while they were still children) or did you convert as an adult?
Born-in.
2. When you left, did you still (a) fully believe in the truth TM , (b) partially believe or (c) realise it was all a load of crap?
(c) realise it was all a load of crap but with some lingering angst. Angst all gone now.
3. Now, do you still (a) fully believe in the truth TM , (b) partially believe or (c) realise it is all a load of crap?
(c) realise it is all a load of crap
4. When you left, how afraid where you of armageddon TM ?
Not at all.
5. Do you class yourself now as (a) christian (b) agnostic (c) atheist or (d) other (please state).
Evangelical, born again Christian, but I've rejected any fundy beliefs and actively pursue the knowledge of how to understand and interpret the Bible according the genre of the book in question (the Bible is a collection of 66 individual books covering a variety of genres, so it's important to identify what genre the book you're reading is and interpret it accordingly. "Understanding the Bible" by John Stott is highly recommended to anyone who is interested in getting a handle on the Bible).

You didn't ask a silly question.
I don't fear the Watch Tower Society, but I don't like the continuing dark influence they have on the hearts and minds of my former friends and my closest family members. I do fear what the Governing Body is able to compel these ones to do in the "name of Jehovah".
Welcome to the forum.

Luke 10:7 Stay in that house, eating and drinking whatever they give you, for the worker deserves his wages. Do not move around from house to house.
