Aren't they already selling off KHs in the States? I got an email from an elder in the States who gave me a detailed up date from the AGM and how the Society in the NYC area had a massive meeting with all of the elders and they're consolidating congregations into fewer KHs and selling off the KHs that are in areas where there are few publishers. In the Bronx they've built a 2 story KH with more on the way.
Fewer meetings, shorter meetings allows them to cram more congregations into fewer buildings, sell the surplus KHs, and correct me if I'm wrong, but don't the WTS own the KHs anyway?

The new book study arrangement...what it could mean
by undercover ini've heard mentioned in a couple of places the admonition from the society about how the new void left by the discontinuing of the book study night should be filled with spiritual study or family worship instead of tv or just viewing it as a "night off".. this is the new spin on the society dropping that meeting night; "just because we gave you a night off from meetings doesn't mean you get to relax.
you should use this time for family study.
if you don't, then you invite satan into your home through your tv set or dvd player or cd player or internet connection.

WT backtracking fast on Book Study -High Gas Prices
by stillajwexelder inso tonight the congregation discussed the front page of the october km -the new meeting schedule.
straight away it was emphasized it was not because of high gas prices that the meetings were being reduced.
it was pointed out that in parts of the world the brothers do not have cars so it was not high gas prices.

@theoldhippie - there must have been a lot of murmuring about the gas prices in his cong.

Pro's and Con's of DAing myself.
by lancelink ini have been wrestling with the idea of da'ing myself for close to a year now.
but there is a small area in my subconscious that whispers "this is not a good idea.
i haven't been to a meeting in over six months, no service in seven years.

The almost overwhelming advice I received when I mentioned on here that I was going to DA myself was "don't!"
This caused me to pause. And now, well, now I've been getting phone calls and an email or two from some of the local bros, asking how I am, one even asked me why I stopped coming to the meetings. This has enabled me to chat with them, let them see we haven't turned into demons and to talk about how happy we now are.
Would they haven gotten in touch if I'd DAd myself? Unlikely.
Thanks to those who argued against me doing it. Hopefully I can help some of the local bros to find 'the truth'. -

A shortage of elders could well be part of it!
I'm thinking about all of those poor bros and sis in divided households who, rather than being able to get out of the house to meet locally with a small group of their friends for study and fellowship (the BSG), now have sit alone of an evening and study WT publications, while the rest of the congregation has their family around them for fellowship and support.
How does that bolster them spiritually?
And what would happen if such ones decided to all meet up together in one of their homes to study and have fellowship (while the rest of the congregation meets within their family groups)? Would the elders start waving the Sept 97 KM in their faces? -

I gave a couple of talks/items this year while mentally out of the WTS. I had 'Introduction to Acts' where I started off the talk by having the audience read 1 John 4:1 and stressed the importance of testing every inspired expression that we receive. I also spent quite a bit of time in the talk emphasising the fact that the 1st congregation was guided by the holy spirit only.
My final SM item was about magazine distribution...that was delivered at my 2nd last meeting (my last meeting was the BSG). I then resigned as an elder and haven't been back since. -

Most damning portion?
by Slappy inapparently this didn't post the first time...or my comp is just acting up; sorry if there ends up being two of these.. *************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************.
is luke 23:39-43 the single most damning portion in the bible for the jw, mormon, and other similar 'religions' that profess to believe in the god of the bible?
when did the thief do good works in order to attain his salvation?

For it to truly mean an paradise on earth, the Persian (or Farsi) would include the word 'zamin' or earth, in other words 'paradise on earth'. Jesus just said paradise. Same word is used in two other instances in the NT, both occasions speak of heaven.

@reniaa - the trap you've fallen into is not checking to see if the WTS accurately interprets the Bible. Yes, I do realise that only they have the divine right to do so, but oftentimes you'll find people who are schooled in Greek and are respected by Christendom for their unsurpassed knowledge of the languages the Bible was written who give us a slightly different take from the WTS writing committee. It could be argued that such scholars have the qualifications to accurately interpret the Bible through giving us an accurate understanding of what the writers of the Bible were trying to convey.
But I ramble on.
Robertson's Word Pictures* on of the New Testaments makes some interesting points about Jesus use of the word 'paradise' when address the wrong doer.
If you'd like to read his comments, you can find them here. Don't be afraid.
For those who don't wish to click the link, here's what is said;
"Today shalt thou be with me in Paradise (Shmeron met emou esh en twi paradeiswi). However crude may have been the robber's Messianic ideas Jesus clears the path for him. He promises him immediate and conscious fellowship after death with Christ in Paradise which is a Persian word and is used here not for any supposed intermediate state; but the very bliss of heaven itself. This Persian word was used for an enclosed park or pleasure ground (so Xenophon). The word occurs in two other passages in the N.T. (2 Corinthians 12:4; Revelation 2:7), in both of which the reference is plainly to heaven. Some Jews did use the word for the abode of the pious dead till the resurrection, interpreting "Abraham's bosom" (Luke 16:22) in this sense also. But the evidence for such an intermediate state is too weak to warrant belief in it."
*You may have heard of this publication when it's been misquoted by the WTS in support of some of their unique beliefs. -

Is there a breaking point for JW?
by BonaFide inin 1989, when the wt said, "the preaching work will be completed before the end of this century", i believed it.
then when they changed it in the bound volume, i was a little nervous, but i didnt say anything.. but then when i was a missionary, and i personally went to the branch office about a pedophile, and they told me to leave it in jehovah's hands, and that jehovah will erase the girl's mind and to stay out of it, that really bothered me.
i couldnt sleep.

@ reniaa - when you say Christians are you including JWs in that, because they're not Christians. Just thought you'd like to know.

is it just me or is that jus weird??
it like they are hypnotized and have to sing if there is a song being played .

What about when the chairman or school overseer stands right at the front edge of the platform and rocks band and forwards on the balls of his feet, song book held aloft not even needing to look at the words, singing right into the audience.
Sure sign of being super spiritual.
