Frustrating dub babysitters
by JimmyPage inyou need a babysitter so your wife gets one from the congregation.
but your cong is so eaten up with the "pioneer spirit" that they don't stay home to watch the child- instead they go traipsing about all over creation out in service, confining the child to a car all morning.
it is so hard to find a dub who has sense enough to just stay home on a cold morning!

The comments on this thread make me feel slightly ill and ever so glad we don't put our children through it anymore.

Jesus said the meek will inherit the earth (see Rev 21) but his talk was always of the kingdom of the heavens. Even Abraham will be there (Matt 8:11).

any biblical support?
please remember that there are a lot of things we consume which contaminate us, even in the everyday food we eat.

Dec 15th & Jan 15 Watchtowers - change of thought?
by dozy injust been having a flick through the dec 15 & jan 15 jw only watchtowers.
(and no - i dont know how to pdf them or anything else!).
unusually there isnt a single mention glorifying the fads - in fact , jehovahs channel or any other similar expression isnt referenced at all (other than a single scriptural reference in the review of revelation in the dec 15th issue.).

The WTS years ago started teaching that good works were on a par with the preaching work. But when people choose to keep their gardens tidy or visit the sick rather than meet the ministry group, they quickly changed their tune again.
I agree that the study edition of the WT is becoming more hardline. A nod and a wink to the life of Jesus (as a great teacher and not God incarnate) may appease some of the JWs, but it doesn't change their claim of divine appointment, doesn't change their shutting up the kingdom of the heavens (great crowd on earth etc) or Jesus' restricted role as mediator. -

Christian Science Monitor gives up printing paper - will the WT follow?
by slimboyfat infrom next year the christian science monitor will publish only via the internet.
other newspapers look set to follow.
the christian science monitor is a different sort of publication to the watchtower now i know, but given the history it's interesting to ponder if the watchtower magazine will be relegated to an online version only too at some stage.

Each congregation will eventually be asked to consider switching to electronic download for the kool-aid WT. Then someone - likely an eager to please brother hoping for appointment at the next CO visit - will be assigned to print the magazine out for the congregation. This will, of course, go on to save the WTS millions.

So, it's really a conscience matter then and not something an organisation (word isn't in the bible, btw) would make a ruling on re. excommunication.
I wonder if the organisation (word isn't in the bible btw) would invest in tobacco/cigarette manufacturing companies while at the same time DFing their adherents for smoking or farming tobacco?
I like having faith in a God who isn't hypocritical. -

Defence of watchtower society Links
by reniaa ini thought long and hard before making this thread, that many will not agree with it but i think there needs to be balance and people to realise there are alternate viewpoints out there on many of these subjects, the ones that are most spoke about on this forum.
i was recently sent a full message containing mary's book and these links give the rebuttal to many of her points.
those that are still open-minded enough feel free to look over them even if in the end you still don't agree at least you have heard both the defence as well as the attack as they are on the internet.

Reniaa, how many faiths claim to speak for God? If your faith means that you have to be part of the WTS and follow the directions of the GB, then that's fine. You'll be held accountable for the religious group your faith compels you to be part of. What you, and every other JW should realise, is that each individual will render an account to Christ Jesus in his role as judge.
When that time comes, you will be judged for your actions and being part of a group won't protect or excuse you. So, if the group you're led by takes you away from Christ, causes you to not give him the same honour as you give Jehovah, you'll be held accountable for that.
The group won't, but theindividuals associated with the group will. That's why Paul said Christians were to work out their OWN salvation with fear and trembling. It won't be an excuse to say, "But the Governing Body told me...". -

"Erm how many faiths do not say they are the mouthpiece of God? None! they all do.....you even get it on here I've lost count the times quite a few on here say to me "I have holy spirit now God tells me what is the right thing to believe!" they are advertising they have their own personal mouthpiece.. I am not a captive, I've made a judgement on comparison and bible study and to be honest It was always a atheism or Jw choice for me, because the inconsistancy of the trinity doctrine never got my vote. Reniaa"
A religious group is not the same thing as a faith. Jesus said there was one true faith, not one true religious group. So while some groups do bad things in the name of religion, that is in no way the same thing as someone doing something in the name of their faith.
Religious groups impose rules and regulations, faiths do not.
Religious groups may claim to be the mouthpiece of God, how many faiths do?
You're doing the classic JW thing in equating a group or organisation with faith, when in fact that are completely different concepts.
