What non-issues did you get "counseled" about?
by rebel8 ini was "counseled"* for being mad that my jw boyfriend began dating my sister.
it was wrong of me to have feelings.
any embarrassment i felt was due to being puffed up with pride.

I was producer on a podcast that featured news and comment about two Glasgow football (soccer) teams. This was raised at the elders' meeting with the CO. It resulted in a sit down meeting with 2 elders in my home where I stupidly agreed to bin production of the podcast in case it 'stumbled' some of the young brothers. I was later counseled for occasionally going to football matches. Again, this may stumble some of the young brothers. Failure to stop doing so would probably have prevented me being appointed as an elder. Needless to say I now go to as many football matches, with my son, that I can manage. We have a great time.
I was once counseled for saying "may a pox come upon me", a line from 'It's a Wonderful Life'.
My wife and I were once counseled by the circuit overseer's wife for not providing her and her husband with a proper 3-course meal. We made them home made soup and sandwiches. My wife was 18 at the time, we were newly weds. This was 15 years ago. I'm still angry about the hurt I saw on my wife's face when she said that.
I was once counseled for not doing enough in the ministry. I'd being regularly auxiliary pioneering at the time.
I was counseled for not being at the KH 20 minutes before the meeting started. We had two children under the age of 6 and I worked until 6.30pm. The meeting started at 7.30pm. It should be noted that only one of the elders (I was a MS at the time) was there 20 mins before the start of the meeting.
I was once counseled for struggling to pay all of our bills. I was a newly married 22 year old regular pioneer window cleaner and I'd confided in an elder that I was struggling to budget our very limited income. My wife was regular pioneering at the time too. I should add the elder giving me the counsel was the elder I'd confided in. Oh, and he counseled me in front of another elder as a way to recommend I not be re-appointed as a MS when we moved congregation.
I was once counseled because my wife looked a bit stressed dealing with our two young kids at the meeting.
I was once counseled for having the song 'Corpus Christi' by Jeff Buckley on my iTunes playlist.
I was once counseled for going to see U2 in concert.
I was once counseled for dating my wife.
I was once counseled for having a Stephen King book in my house.
But hey, Jehovah disciplines those he loves, right? -

restrictions
by bonnzo inrecently i talked to an elder friend, who is used to and tolerates my liberal thinking about the "truth", about restrictions after df'ing and reproof.
i asked for the scriptural reasons for such.
he proceeded to hem and haw, "well they are necessary for blah, blah...." i repeated scriptural .

Freedom tastes like a good beer - let's have another. Personal update
by truthseeker init's been six months since my fade - other than a couple of calls from the elders concerned about my meeting attendance, i have been pretty much left alone.. freedom from the organization has given me peace of mind - i don't worry about being ignored by "the friends", i don't have to fake my hours and i don't have to rush to get to the service meeting minutes after getting home from work.. according to jw lore, i should be weeping and gnashing my teeth but i am feeling better by the day.
i still believe in god, still identify with christianity and am still looking for answers to life's questions.
i don't pretend to have the answers but i have the freedom to look for them.. .

Great post. Find a few local groups pertaining to the things you're interested in. If you want to find local Christians, for example, look for an Alpha course.

JW's and higher standards
by besty inin a recent conversation i had with a nominal jw they were literally lost for words when i put it to them that i had higher standards now that i was no longer a jw.... 1 - i don't agree with letting babies and children die for want of a banned blood fraction.
2 - i don't agree with taking from but not donating to the blood supply.
3 - i don't agree with religious discrimination aka jw shunning.

Nice comeback. I'd add that Jesus didn't say anything about birthdays and Xmas, but he did prohibit going after false prophets who proclaimed the due time had approached. So while you're not a Christian, you're actually sticking closer to Jesus words than JWs do.

Why do Jehovah's Witnesses pray to God?
by Quirky1 inwhen the bible claims there is only one mediator between god and man, jesus christ....isn't this considered hypocritical of their teachings?.

@insearchof - exactly. It doesn't make sense. When you point out to a JW that they don't have Christ as their mediator, they will almost always reply, "oh, but I do; I pray through him". The Bible does explain that prayers are addressed to God through Christ, but Christ is mediator between humans and God to bring about forgiveness of sins. Humans can't stand before God - or approach him in prayer - without Christ.
R&F JWs are, by this fact, not Christians; they do not have Christ as their mediator. And they should not be praying through Christ as they do not give him his proper position as mediator. -

I think you've got a good point. They can't really have both teachings.
