When was the last NWT revision released?
by VM44 indoes anyone know when the last revision to the new world translation was released?.
i seriously wonder if there are any qualified bible translators left at brooklyn or patterson.
that is assuming that there ever were any there in the first place.. there might not be anyone qualified in the watchtower organization to make any revisions at all.. the watchtower today wants lawyers, accountants and construction engineers, not people trained in biblical languages!.

JEHOVAH vs YHWH
by sacolton injewish encyclopedia - jehovah:.
a mispronunciation (introduced by christian theologians, but almost entirely disregarded by the jews) of the hebrew "yhwh," the (ineffable) name of god (the tetragrammaton or "shem ha-meforash").
this pronunciation is grammatically impossible; it arose through pronouncing the vowels of the "kere" (marginal reading of the masorites: ????

This sort of thing is still relevant - and thanks to Sacolton for post, duly bookmarked - especially if we're interested in freeing JWs from their cultish view of the NAME Jehovah. It is just a name, and an invented one at that.

We may eventually get thrown out, but I've spent quite a bit of time having some very forceful discussions with some of the JWs there. I've already been asked "what else is there" once. By the time a JW asks that, they're already starting to think, IMO.

Double standards
by behemot indid you ever notice how double standard leads jws life?.
if someone whos joining the jws gets shunned by his family/friends, thats persecution, if a jw who joins another religion (or does anything outside the rules) gets the same treatment thats loving discipline.. if they are invited to another religions ceremony they wont go, viewing their participation as sharing in false worship; yet at the same time they keep on inviting members of other faiths to share in their own celebrations (memorial) and expect them to show up and participate.. they fight worldwide, even in courts, for freedom of speech, yet they dont grant such freedom to their own members.. they encourage people to question and closely scrutinize their beliefs; but they are discouraged to do the same themselves.. they expect people to read and study their publications; yet they wont touch other faiths literature with a stick for fear of getting polluted.. other examples?.

They condemn the Catholic Church for it's wealth and properties, knowing full well how much wealth and property they have.
They point to Christian denominations and say, "they believe the trinity, they aren't from God, because the trinity isn't in the Bible", while they churn out magazines about "paradise earth", "great crowd of other sheep" and "Jesus is Michael".

Someone should point these cretins to Jesus words in John 3: 3 In answer Jesus said to him: “Most truly I say to you, Unless anyone is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
Good to luck them even seeing the kingdom of God.
Matthew 23: 13 “Woe to YOU , scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because YOU shut up the kingdom of the heavens before men; for YOU yourselves do not go in, neither do YOU permit those on their way in to go in.

It's interesting that they cite a study where JWs are compared favourable with Mormons. Because more people, when surveyed, reported being approached by a JW, that must mean that JWs are more successful and therefore are blessed by God...and are true Christians.
A couple of points worth noting about that;
Mormons have more members, grow faster and hold onto their kids. JWs may speak to more people, but that doesn't equate to conversions. Mormons are better at that. So, if your goal is to grow more members - and remember, JWs are the onlytrue religion leading to life - they aren't doing such a great job for all of their door-to-door bluster; Mormons beat them.
Secondly, and this is typical WTS reasoning, they've used a quote which compares two religions who are known for their door knocking. Why not compare both those religions with Christianity around the globe? The church we attend has seen a growth of around 8 people become Christians thanks to their Alpha Course in the last 2 years. This is a church of 50 members. They don't knock on doors, but they open the church one evening a week, give people a meal, engage them in a 45 minute discourse and have a chat with them afterwards. It's opt-in, not in-your-face. Compare that model with the activities of Christians as described in Acts. It was very much meeting together, sharing meals, talking about Christ. And look at the growth they achieved. What did Jesus do? He met with people, fed them and talked about his kingdom. Oh, and Jesus specifically said don't go from door to door.
My contention for around a year has been that the WTS wants to restrict the preaching of their unique good news to door-to-door work for one very good reason; the internet. Rather than using the 'net to broadcast their unique life saving message, they virtually eschew it. "Oh, but we have a website!", they may say. Great, but the website is straight out of the 90s. Where are the YouTube videos, where are the podcasts, where are the discussion forums? Where's the transparency and honesty? Surely they know that the internet is the world's biggest, most amazing communication tool. So, why restrict people to going from door-to-door (ok, they do telephone, street and letter work too..)? It's because they're fearful of an interested householder meeting JWs, going onto their computer and Googling them. We all know what they're going to find when they do that.
Door-to-door work during the hours of 9.30 - 11.30 guarantees JWs will hardly ever speak to anyone.
And why in the illustration on page 17 is Paul carting around scrolls? Notice who he's speaking to. Looks like Romans or Gentiles to me. So what on earth was written on the scrolls?! Jewish prophecies? Jewish Law?

Good point, quietlyleaving. They recent said in a WT 'proving' that healing by faith is demonic that [divinely revealed] knowledge would be done away with. If 'knowledge' would be done away with when the last of the apostles died - as would healing - then how come Russell had it 'divinely revealed' to him that Christ returned in 1874? Oh wait, that date was false, so couldn't have been divinely revealed.
And what about Rutherford having the date 1925 'divinely revealed' to him? Ah, again, false date. So it couldn't have been revealed divinely.
Add 1914, 1918, 1919, 1975 etc to the above 'divinely revealed' knowledge argument...ok, you see my point.

Here's my question;
If Satan was thrown out of heaven and landed on earth, having a great anger, is WWI the worst he could do?
