Show-down with elder at the kingdom hall
by Hobo Ken inthis is podcast 8 in the death or obedience series.. this was recorded on christmas day 2008.. after our last visit from two local elders my wife felt she could no longer be known as a jehovah's witness and had chosen to disassociate herself in november 2008.. we had been on a family holiday and had returned to find that one of the local elders who had visited us had warned off my mother-in-law from having anything to do with my wife - her daughter.
he also made false statements about one of my children.. i decided to confront this elder at the kingdom hall.
this podcast is the recording of our conversation.. notice how he denies making such statements to my mother-in-law and falsely accuses me of teaching her beliefs contrary to jehovah's witnesses.. i ask whether it's a sin to no longer be a jehovah's witness?.

I know a guy who was thoroughly under the grip of heroin addiction and believed a lot of stuff about himself and other people due to his addiction and what the drugs were doing to his mind.
He's now clean from drugs.
What set him free from drugs was something happened in his brain that caused him no longer to believe the things that he once did, beliefs that had led him into addiction.
He had to be broken first, though, and he freely admits this. He was brought really low, his beliefs were destroyed and he's now free.

Christians risk rejection and discrimination for their faith in Britain.
by BurnTheShips inthe first poll of britain's churchgoers, carried out for the sunday telegraph, found that thousands of them believe they are being turned down for promotion because of their faith.. one in five said that they had faced opposition at work because of their beliefs.. more than half of them revealed that they had suffered some form of persecution for being a christian.. the findings suggest a growing hostility towards religion in this country, which has been highlighted by a series of clashes between churchgoers and their employers.. and so on.
more at the link.. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/religion/5413311/christians-risk-rejection-and-discrimination-for-their-faith-a-study-claims.html.
silver lining: there are still christians in gb!.

"You probably remembered to turn the oven off. Relax and enjoy the rest of your day."
"You probably won't lose your job in the current recession. Relax and enjoy life."
"You probably won't miss your train. Relax and do the crossword."

The feeling I get from my friends on this thread is that it's ok to openly profess your belief and faith that there isn't a God and it's ok to openly profess your faith if you're a Muslim, but if you're getting a tough time for being a Christian then it's probably your own fault for somehow letting your faith be known.

My family never dreamed for one minute that I would leave, but here I am, thanks to a serious wake up call from Holy Spirit I was shown the truth about the "Truth".
Exactly. Same here.

@ iknowall - Ronnie has classic cult Teflon mentality. When people start leaving his congregation because they've woken up to the truth, he'll just see that as successful winnowing, no matter how 'faithful' they'd been as Witnesses.

I'll pray for u.
by wha happened? inok it's no secret my mother is seriously ill. the neighbors and friends who have grown to love her are constantly asking for updates.
at the end of virtually every conversation is stated, i'll pray for her or some other mention of divine request.. in the other corner are the multitide of jw's i've known and helped over the years.
no mention of prayers.. i know it's obvious but the love from heritics clearly out paces "the friends".. i'm just annoyed that's all.. .

@ drwtsn - I know one local Christian who always insists on praying with JWs when they come to her door.

How I figured JWs were NOT the truth...
by cognac ini remember thinking growing up that i wasn't sure it was the true religion but because my family were so sure of themselves and so many people believed it that i loved and respected it had to of been the truth.. then, i reasoned that because we were the only ones who fulfilled the preaching work that there was no other way any other religion could be the true religion except us.
plus, we used jehovah's name and didn't take it out of the bible but the preaching work was really the main thing that kept me in.... i was always afraid to really study just the bible because i knew a ton of things might not be right.
otherwise, why would so many jws be afraid to run into a greek scholar out in field service.

The Governing Body raising their head above the parapet with last year's abolishment of the Book Study Groups. Then I started trying to prove all of the teachings, 1914 in particular, to myself. When that failed, I always remember looking at a photo of CT Russell and it dawning on me that he was a false prophet and that he had set the standard for the Society.
