Oh yeah - I'd blocked that out - the picture of the little children being led by their parents and then placed in the firey lap of a statue of Baal. That's the stuff of nightmares!!

New freedom....new god/s?
by whitman ini'm curious as to how far everyone has explored their new found freedom having left the borg.. has anyone been interested in, or interested in becoming, or just vaguely interested in the following - the raelians (they do have good geometry), any ufo cult, rastafarianism, amish, trekkies, the john frum movement, the discordians, buddhists, hindu, scientologist or any other that isn't listed here?

Hmmmm...Satanism. Completely overlooked that one. Are you able to give a brief explanation of Satanism and how one practices?

If you are able to get Sky Map to work for you, can you please let me know. I tried a few years ago but I had problems.
If you are after literary evidence, Hesiod's 'Works and Days' is a good starting point for evidence of astronomy. There is a load of other literary pieces as well. I'm happy to send you a bibliography if you want that much detail. Calandars are tricky and often there was not a uniform method of calculating months across the Graeco-Roman world. At one point Athens had a rather strange calandar which omits a day other city-states didn't. There are also sundials which have been published. They can be quite helpful because they demonstrate not only what they were looking for, but why. Such fun. The 'Journal of Astronomy' has some fairly respectable pieces of scholarly work on ancient astronomy. It's available online but you have to subscribe.

Ohh - I forgot to include the church of Maradona which apparently has over 80,000 members. Any members of the church of Maradona here? He did have the whole 'hand of god' goal thing going on. That's definitely church worthy.

The contagion is spreading - lots of people quietly leaving JWs
by truthseeker infrom reading reports on jwd it seems that many are in the process of quietly leaving the watchtower organization.. it's almost become disease like - and spreading rapidly, even acutely in lands where access to information is greater.. people who i've known for years have suddenly disappeared - it reads like a stephen king novel.. what have you noticed?.

Good for you erandir - is it possible that we could bottle this contagion or infection? We could then release the infection into air conditioning at K.Halls and conventions and watch the resulting riots and emergency exiting. If we can't bottle it, should we just start sneezing on them?

Could you suggest a better way to word this to mom?
by New light for you ini'm trying to figure out how to word what i have to say to mom, and i'm just not cuttin it.
here's the story...came in the "truth" with mom, i was 13, she was going thru a divorce.
she's convinced to this day that we would have no relationship if it wasn't for the fact that we found the witnesses.

Glad to be of help New Light. Hugs and kisses to you! You can do this - gently, patiently and compassionately - you can do it. It doesn't mean you have to ignore everything, I'm not suggesting you allow your mum to say anything she likes, but choose your battles wisely. When boundaries need to be established, just establish them - it's a process. You will be learning and your mum will be learning, mistakes will be made, but that's a human thing. Most importantly, don't lose your sense of humour - there is a funny side to everything and a little silliness goes a long way.

I heard a story about witnessing in a rather remote area. A mother and daughter were approaching one particular 'house' which was really nothing more than a collection of metal sheets leaning against each other. A woman came out from behind the bamboo with a gun and demanded to know what was going on. A few more women with guns emerged. In the hopes of making friends and difusing the situation the dub mother commented on how attractive the large planation of 'bamboo' was, and could she possibly have some cuttings. Fortunately the daughter dub had been at school long enough to realise pretty quickly that the 'bamboo' was not 'bamboo' and there was a damn fine reason all those chicks had guns. It was quite an interesting little community they had going on there, but I think they were listed from that time as a 'do not call'.
